The Latest Playoff Picture

December 18th, 2016
Don't look back.

Don’t look back.

The playoff picture actually cleared up a bit today.

Sadly, the Bucs (8-6) squandered a great opportunity but remain in great shape in the Wild Card race.

As expected, the Falcons (9-5) took care of business against the lowly 49ers. So the Bucs are in rough shape to win the division. They need to win out against New Orleans and Carolina, and have the Falcons lose one of their final two, and then the Bucs will take the division title.

The Giants lead the way in the Wild Card with a 10-4 record after beating NFC North–leading Detroit. What a job by Ben McAdoo, who probably will win Coach of the Year.

Green Bay (8-6) beat Chicago by a field goals and faces the Vikings at home next week. They’ll close at Detroit.

The Vikings (7-7) were absolutely pasted in their own crib by Indianapolis. Stunning.

The Redskins 7-5-1 plays Monday night at home against Carolina. Huuge game. The Bucs need a Carolina win.

The Seahawks (9-4-1) appear to be a lock for the No. 2 seed. They beat Atlanta earlier this year.

  3. Rrsrq Says:

So if Carolina wins against the Skins, do the Bucs bounce back in and still bobs the Pack

  4. DB55 Says:

    Meh

  5. Warthog Says:

I can’t believe sh!!*y Gosder Cheriloser blew the game for us.

    I.

    Cannot.

    Believe it.

America’s QB deserves better protection. Eff U Cher.

  6. WeAreLost Says:

The Saints are going to be a bit*h next week then the Carolina who since division will be a bit*ch as well. I hope we can make the playoffs just so these guys can get experience but man is it going to be tough.

  7. Artemis Rand Says:

Joe just proved me right ?

WTF is that little bigmouth sissy cuck Rob ?

    Huh ?

Where you at little boy ?

I didn’t start crap with you but I sure as will finish it fairy.

  8. Bucsalltheway Says:

There’s a glimmer of hope..one star wr and a slightly above average te isn’t enough to beat a 12-2 team smh. But I bet if we had to play them against we’d give them a better run for their money. We lost by less than a touchdown and didn’t capitalize when given great field position. I hate when Jameis throws to humphries like he’s Evans size. I hate to say it but on the last two drives mike Evans looked beat as the game went on.

  9. Artemis Rand Says:

    @ Rrsrq

Yes. Need to be bigtime Carolina fans tomorrow night.

BTW, WTF has happened with them ?

That has got to be the biggest hangover after a SB run I have seen in many years…

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I won’t complain about Dotson anymore.

  11. Bucsalltheway Says:

    Again*

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Mark my words Joe

Carolina will let Redskins win because they don’t want tampa getting into the playoffs

  13. mike10 Says:

Warthog, you’re glazing over a bad game by Jameis all over the place. OL was STILL bad and JW missed several opportunities.

If any of those OLineman were first overall picks I would have expected more, but they weren’t and a rookie went 33/36

  14. Bucsalltheway Says:

Dotson probably copped out this game…he wanted no parts of a winning ball club smh

  15. J Says:

Jameis was bad tonight. Not accurate at all. He choked and got emotional in the big stage….

  16. FR Says:

Winston is our saviour lol lol lol lol Winston needs to go practice his long balls.

  17. Warthog Says:

I think you are off base putting this on Jameis, mike10. He didn’t play his best but that was partially due to the turnstile at RT.

Either way, he had the ball in hand twice inside the final minutes, only trailing by 6.

Both opportunities to go win it were single-handedly botched by Cherilus, who basically just bent over and let himself get spanked on every play.

Sorry, it’s as simple as that.

  18. mike10 Says:

Warthog-Agreed, but there were plays he could have made that he didn’t with a stable line in front of him.

At least 2 picks were away from Cherilus. Again, I expect much more

  19. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

We will lose but it’s what you learn from that loss is what makes you great. We didn’t play the game and like most of us where not even there. But learn from your mistakes and you will triumph. Go Bucs!! Bucs fans never lose the faith! We will build our trench!

  20. Shane Says:

Cherilus blew it but why wouldn’t you make an adjustment ? Our coaches let it happen Drive after drive.

  21. Shane Says:

Jameis missed Evans twice. If you are crying about that then just stop it. We have never had a better QB in Tampa. Ever.

  22. Eric Says:

Man if Winston’s passes were as accurate as his head butts we’d be on cloud 9…….

  23. Bucsalltheway Says:

Charles sims dances way too much smh
He looks like a break dancer pop locking behind the line of scrimmage. Besides Marpet,Hawley and smith our online is trashy. If Jameis had Dallas online he would have been 40-45 500yds 7td. Dak looked too comfortable in the pocket. HDTV shown no sweat on dak lol

  24. Trubucfan22 Says:

They did. They benched his butt. But too little to late. The damage was already done.

  25. Bucsalltheway Says:

Where was Evan smith? Is he not allowed to play anymore. He would have been an instant upgrade over cherilus

  26. Eric Says:

    #1Brad SUPER BOWL winning Johnson
    #2 Doug Williams
#3 Josh 10-6 made the playoffs Freeman
There you go Shane, now you have 3 who have played better and won more than Wayoff Winston!

  27. BuccaneEric75 Says:

We did try chipping Irving on some plays at the end. Still didn’t help. I would’ve lined up 6 lineman and doubled him. When the other team knows your going to throw, sometimes you’re at thier mercy.

  28. Buc_The _World Says:

Wow we know who the real fans are. We won 5 ganes straight and lost to the team with the best record in the NFL by 6 points despite bad defensive play and terrible O-line pkay. Even though the defense played bad they still played well enough for us to win the game. The offensive line cost us this game. But to sit here and say this team sucks after winning 5 straight and losing to the team with the best record in the NFL is frickin stupid, This game is not going to maje me turn against me team. We still have a chance to make the playoffs andand we will learn a lot from this game. I still have faith in the Bucs because I am a true fan!!

  29. Eric Says:

Oh and neither of them had a top flight wide receiver like Mike Evans to throw to and still got er done!

  30. Bucsalltheway Says:

They need a separate team plane for the guys who didn’t show up and supply them with pencils and paper to write each other letters of how they could play better. Our sorry players need inspiration. Our defense needs to figure out ways to make a rookie look bad. But then again we made case Keenum look like Tom Brady early on this year.

  31. Eric Says:

We did learn alot, I agree. We learned that we picked the wrong QB. I havent turned against my team , I’m just not part of the kiss Winston’s A$$ Club. Membership has it’s privleges!!

  32. Eric Says:

If Jameis had Dak’s…. insert excuse he would have blah blah blah. What should be said is that if Jameis had Dak’s accuracy we would have won. Plain and simple. A quarterback’s job is to throw td’s not picks, int’s and fumbles. Stop riding his jock, he ain’t all that sheeple.

  33. Eric Says:

    Silence is Golden

  34. Buc1987 Says:

We learned that Eric is an ass and shares the opinion of about 0.1 % of the fan base.

  35. Buc1987 Says:

    Silence from what Eric?

Are you a Bucs fan too?

    Or just a tool?

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Eric ….we could take Jameis away and let YOUR team go back into irrelevance if you like…. seeing how you seem to think he has nothing to do with the current record.

  37. rayjay1122 Says:

We aren’t ready for the playoffs. Our OL and running game are just not good enough. Our defense came back to Earth as we could not stop the run very well nor cover receivers. I think we will finish 9-7 if we play well. We will miss the playoffs. Hopefully we can shore up the areas of weakness this off season. I am still happy with the Bucs progress this season but we just are not championship caliber yet.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

    Silence is Eric!

  39. Buc1987 Says:

All of the Jameis haters want Jameis off the team so the Bucs can go back into irrelevance. They seem to think that the 8-6 record has nothing to do with him and want they want the Bucs to go back to 4-12’s and 2-16’s.

  40. aceinthehole Says:

Shut up Eric. Plenty of blame to go around on the offensive side, you can’t just blame JW. Truth is that most of the QB’s in the league would not have made the plays to get the Bucs back in the game. Was he perfect? No. But any kind of running game would have helped greatly. You should be all over Doug Martin- that dude just cannot hit the hole like he used to.

  41. WeAreLost Says:

    @aceinthehole
    There was no hole dude.

  42. Bucsalltheway Says:

Doug Martin is fine it’s just hard to evade a penetrated line you have no options once he’s given the ball there’s thousands of defensive lineman in his face. Rhythm plays didn’t happen until 2 quarter. Jameis almost pulled the Chicago game finnesse play but Charles sims glorious hands went M.i.a. Good teams don’t lose back to back and Dallas showed to be a good team tonight. Only one Jameis pick was legit. You can’t count the Hail Mary before hAlftime and you can’t count the 4th and long pressure throw. Just think about it did you really want him to hold the ball until he ate a sack to close the game or attempt to throw to Sheppard who had two back to back 18yd pick ups. We failed because McCoy got the team hype before the game. Jameis needs to do that he’s the leader and will be for a while so if anyone dislikes Jameis find a new team to root for. Cleveland, buffalo and rams needs your support there in dire need of horrible fans right now.

  43. cmurda Says:

This wasn’t JW’s best game but Cherilus in particular was humiliated. He’s not NFL caliber anymore. This was a hard fought game though. The D was average. They gave up a tying FG right after we grabbed the lead. Good defense don’t do that. There were too many yards left on the field by Jameis. The overthrows are a major issue.

  44. Buc53 Says:

Lol—wow, it’s so funny to look on here and see who obviously doesn’t understand a thing about football. Yeah Eric, umm looking at you. Winston has changed the entire culture of our team in two seasons. If you can’t see that then perhaps you aren’t watching close enough.

  45. McBuc Says:

Eric, freeman missed the playoffs in that magical 10-6 season. Doug Williams did go to the NFC championship game in 79. Brad Johnson had the benefit of one of the greatest defenses of all time. By your line of thinking King should be in there too, he played in the NFC championship game. Winston will prove to be the best we have had. No one thought we would be as hood as we are right now, so I am shocked by all the whip jumping going on.

  46. McBuc Says:

    As good, and ship jumping.

  47. RealityCheck Says:

I see there are still morons on this site blaming Jameis for everything. One QB got protection and time all night, one didn’t. They spent a halftime segment going over just that. We’re 8-6, in the playoff hunt after years of obscurity, and just barely lost to the best team in the league. The horror! Calm down you turd burgers.

  48. RealityCheck Says:

@Eric – Anyone that uses the word “sheeple” is automatically excluded from the adult conversations. Let’s just ignore the amazing line of monsters that is the Dallas offensive line and the revolving door of backups that is the Bucs line. Don’t let reality get in the way of your narrative.

  49. orlbucfan Says:

26-20 Cowdungs. They were gifted 10 points from turnovers. You turn the ball over 4 times, and even the Browns can beat you. Bucs beat themselves. I posted 8-8 records last year and this season. Bucs have already accomplished .500 with 2 games left, both winnable. Aints and Panthers (man, did they get bit by the post-SB bug) aren’t going anywhere. FameisJ needs to calm down. His going haywire helped Bucs lose this one. Tampa Bay, DK, MSmith and Licht need one more off-season to finish building this team. Looking forward to next season. 🙂 Man, it sure feels good to be able to say it. Go Tampa Bay!!

  50. Jared DePiro Says:

I think this loss will give this team a reality check, get some of the attention off of them, they aren’t ready for it. I believe this team will win the division. If anyone cares to remember that Atlanta ruined Carolinas perfect season for them last year, I think they will be playing to ruin it for them. As for us, I think we will beat the saints (always play better against them in the super dome) and will beat the panthers because we won’t take them as a joke after they beat Atlanta and show the team how there is a way in to the postseason and they will play their best. How far into the playoffs will we make it? The answer to that isn’t easy, depends on how healthy they will be. I think for next season, we are 100% legitimate contenders.

  51. mwestdominguez Says:

I guess Carolina DID NOT let the Skins win….Go Bucs!

  52. rayjay1122 Says:

If we can sweep the Saints and the Panthers can defeat the Falcons in Carolina, then a Bucs win to finish the season over Carolina would clinch the division and give Tampa a home playoff game. That is how close things are. Who would have thought?

  53. GAustin Says:

I’m not attempting to troll but I am a die-hard Cowboys fan and even I am shocked and amazed by how much push the Cowboys front 4 were getting. It wasn’t just Irving. the D line was practically sandwiching the pocket right onto Jameis. this was a new lineup for Dallas and maybe one they need to keep. I went back and looked at film and was shocked and how much the were bullying the Bucs O line. Where was that against the Giants and the Vikings for the Cowboys? It wasn’t.
