Aguayo Rolling

December 28th, 2016
December joy.

December joy.

Just a few weeks ago the mere mention of “Roberto Aguayo” would cause Bucs fans to shoot beer through their noses in rage and anger..

Not so much any more.

While December (once again) has been unkind to the Bucs, it has been very good to the once embattled Bucs kicker.

In fact, Aguayo missed only one kick in the month of December, and that was back against the Chargers.

Tracing back to the Thursday night debacle against the Dixie Chicks in Week 9, Aguayo has not missed an extra point since and has only missed two field goals. Aguayo is 8-for-10 on field goal attempts and a perfect 15-for-15 on extra points.

Could it be that Aguayo has licked the yips?

    Had to jinx it! lol

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Since the bye week, he has been pretty good, except for one game.

  3. Leighroy Says:

80% yay. – that would still only be good for 27th in the league over the season.

  4. BigHogHaynes Says:

He was and never will be worth a second round pick…not for this team!

  5. BuccaneerByBirth Says:

Let’s see him make beyond 43 before we crown him a fixed product

Get over it, people. the point is, Aguayo is getting better. When he was picked, everyone knew he would struggle his first year. Be freaking grateful that things are looking good now.

And your statement that he will never be worth a 2nd round pick? Bullspit. If he becomes an all pro, he certainly would be more than worth it.

    You people lack patience.

Look at it this way…if he continues to improve, we’ll win at least 2-3 more games next year. That would put us at 10 or 11 wins.

    So stop your whining.

  7. Mojiska Says:

To be worth a 2nd round pick he would need to make all pro every year for 10+ years. The tough thing is that no matter what he cannot exceed the expectations put on him by being drafted in the 2nd round. Almost everyone (me included) expected him to be the best kicker ever because of his draft pick.

I don’t know who is the biggest joke, the fans are the management of this pathetic franchise.

  9. Tom Edrington Says:

See so many fans bitching about so many things, this team will go either 8-8 or 9-7 and if you told everyone that before the season began, there would be rejoicing…….

Bucs are an up-and-coming team, people forget Jameis is 22, will get better as will others on this team…..

A LOT to be thankful for!

wont be in the nfl in 3 years

    poor mechanics and mentally weak

*he does process very nice eyebrows that can possibly lead to a eyebrow model career in the future

*actually if he is fortunate enough, Roberto’s look might be useful in a Spanish version “the most interesting kicker in the world ” commercials

  12. JMN Says:

I really would like to see him kick a 50 yarder in the final game of the season. That would give me some confidence going into next season. Overall, he has improved and calmed our nerves a bit.

  13. LakeLandBuc Says:

We let Matt Bryant walk after he kicked a 62 yard FG to beat the Eagles, And this season he is Pro-Bowl bound for the Atlanta Falcons making 92% of his FG. He have made 6-8 from 50+, including one from 59 yards. Our 2nd round Wonder Boy has made 75% of his FG , 4-8 from 40-49 with a season long of 43 yards. Great Job Yucs

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Aguayo could kick the game winner in a Super Bowl and 1/2 of you whiners would still say he wasn’t worth a 2nd round pick.

  15. Kurt Rae Says:

    Recall….Matt Bryant…let go here…33 of 36 for the season ,

  16. DallasBuc Says:

Makes a few routine kiddie kicks and now he’s suddenly a good kicker…

  17. JonBuc Says:

    @ LakeLandBuc:

You’re on the money. I believe Matt Bryant was replaced by Mike Nugent…cut midseason…and has since helped a division rival win lots of games.

    Keep working Aguayo. Keep working!

Great, Joe. You just hex’d the game for Sunday! He’ll miss two, Bucs lose by 5. Just kidding (I hope). The problem with Aguayo is first, I think he’s still not hit one over 42 yards, and second, his direction of ANY kick is random as he11. I’m not a pro by any means but was a soccer player, and kicked football in HS and college. Aguayo’s form is bizzarre. It varies as he never seems to line up the same way and his approach to the ball also changes. When you’re inside 40 that kick needs to be right down the center, period. When you do miss one it needs to be because you just hit it wrong and it is obvious to all the instant the foot hits the ball. I just wonder who is coaching his kicking, and why a novice like me sees this but no one else is acting on it that matters.

We don’t too much complain about Aguayo, we just complain he was a second round pick when there were other needs, look across the league and a lot of really good kickers weren’t even drafted or drafted late (I have no facts to this), but by virtue of nobody talking about their high round kicker, pretty confident. As a Bucs fan, really, really hope he is very successful. As a second round kicker, anything inside of 50 we assume should be automatic

Brian Anger was drafted in the 3rd round which is super high for a punter as well. Jacksonville gave up on him and just look at him now. Perhaps the Buccaneer’s most consistent performer this year. Anger has played at an all-pro level pretty much the entire season

The specialists who are drafted high like this – its for a reason. They have intangibles and talents that few others do. And once these extra talented specialists get the nuances of the pro game down and some experience under their belt – their talents seem to shine through and result in long, productive careers.

Ray Guy and Janikowski (both 1st round picks) are prime examples. Grammatica (3rd round pick) was on his way and had a # of excellent seasons but then the wheels came off and he never found a way back unfortunately…

The pick was made and Aguayo will be given every opportunity over the next couple of years to gel into the consistent performer he was drafted to be.

I’d say #19 has done a good job this year of finding his groove the 2nd half of the season after a rocky start and that will give him the confidence he needs moving forward so that he can improve and ultimately excel at this level.

I and several others have noted on here numerous times that it was LICHT who drafted Aguayo in the second round. RA had no control over when he was picked. Bryan Anger was given up by Jax way too soon (luckily for us). Good warning to all the bellyachers!! Most of them are just dimwits. Quite a few aren’t Bucs fans, that’s for sure.

  23. salish_seamonster Says:

I’ll believe it when he can hit ’em from 45+ yards consistently.

  24. salish_seamonster Says:

Barring a regression next year he will be our kicker. People are going to have to stop complaining about the 2nd round pick. It’s done. It’s over. If he stays around and is consistently winning games for us, he’s worth it.

  25. NashvilleBuc Says:

I’m with you, salish, on both points.
