Props To The Players

Many Bucs, including Brent Grimes, have no use talking about fatigue.

Many Bucs, including Brent Grimes, have no use talking about fatigue.

As Joe has noted, losing is so commonplace at the Den of Depression that pangs of dread overcome Joe just walking up to the stadium — knowing there is a very real chance Joe will have to enter another morgue of a Bucs locker room after yet another home loss.

(Just 17 home wins since Chucky was fired; just three home wins since Greg Schiano was fired.)

But Joe must give some Bucs defenders props for not using excuses. Take the drubbing by the Dixie Chicks. It came four days after the Bucs defense was on the field for some 90 plays and Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith let Brent Grimes and Vernon Hargreaves play every snap in the overtime loss on a hot Sunday afternoon.

Against the Dixie Chicks, the Bucs never forced one punt, shameful on the NFL level. Fatigue clearly caught up to the defense but the defenders didn’t want to hear any of it.

“I really don’t know how you want me to answer that?” Brent Grimes responded when asked if fatigue was an issue.

The players clearly take the fatigue excuses for subpar play as a personal insult. They would rather admit they blew a coverage or got fried by a receiver than admit they were out of gas.

Later, when Joe pressed Grimes on the issue, he said, “I’m not going to say no.” Grimes clearly didn’t want to go there talking about fatigue and instead offered that the defense had a bad game and they didn’t make plays.

Hey Jude had no use for talking about being tired either.

“We had the same turnaround [Atlanta] did,” Hey Jude said. “We can’t really make excuses about the turnaround.”

Even when America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was asked about playing nearly five quarters and then having to play again four days later, he winced, kind of pulled back like he was being buzzed by a yellow jacket and said, “Naw.”

Joe has to give those guys credit. Fatigue was easily a factor. But their pride and determination wouldn’t let them think that way.

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo would never admit to being fatigued either. Pablo works on hot Pasco County roofs all day then table dances for tips late into the night. Pablo does this to support his many, many children. Pablo also goes home to please Pablo’s wife. Fatigue is never an excuse for Pablo.”

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ve stopped posting a lot here. Its useless, tiring, & depressing. Our Bucs are simply not that much fun to watch. I said at seasons start Koetter and Smith were fired by the Falcons for a reason. We..get the leftovers. You see guys. We..watch our Bucs and hope..wish and pray we win. Other teams just confidently Win. We got 2 or 3 more yrs. Our Defense is terrible. We have no Pass rush at all. And we suck to holy hell and beyond. Keep the faith. Mine for now is in hibernation. We might win..5 or 6 this yr. Hey, isn’t that what Lovie Smith won last year? God bless..the Tampa Bay Yucks!

  3. Chucklehead & The Slumpbusters Says:

I wish one of these guys would just have a blonde moment and accidentally blurt out to the press what is wrong. We have heard every explanation but they all use the same old cliches.

Somebody please grow a pair and tell the truth.

  4. LakeLandBuc Says:

The Falcons were on 4 day rest also, that’s no excuse. And the Falcons had to travel to Tampa, after a last second win against the Packers ( during a late game).

  5. LakeLandBuc Says:

    Mike Johnson…I’m with you 100%.

  6. John Ensch Says:

These guys are professional football players and are paid very well for what they do. Any excuse for losing is an insult to the fans. When your paid the kind of money these guys are paid,”you should put up or shutup. The Bucs are the biggest WCS (would of,could of, should of.) team in the NFL. If your paid millions to do one thing, play football then you have no excuses.

  7. JonBuc Says:

    (Joe) Buc myths debunked:

    1) Mike Smith will be a hot head coaching commodity
    2) Bucs have best corner tandem in NFC South
    3) JW3 is America’s QB

  8. 813bucboi Says:

dirk didn’t have this team prepared yet again….we got blown out yet again….mismanaging penalties and the clock yet again…incompetence is at the helm….GO BUCS!!!

  9. 813bucboi Says:

    @joe…confidence poll please?…..GO BUCS!!!

  10. America's Commenter Says:

I don’t see how Jameis or anyone else on the offense would be fatigued from the Oakland game, they barely saw the field in the second half and overtime.

The defense definitely took the brunt of the punishment, but it’s their own fault for not being good enough to get off the field.

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

Of course they did not use that for an excuse!!!! The excuse making went out the door when they fired coach my scheme!!!!!! But we knew that the defense would tire quickly from playing a game and a half against one of the hottest offenses in the NFL!!!!!! Just like we knew that this schedule was incredible tough this year (especially the first 8 games)!!!!!

This year was all about seeing who on this team could play in the NFL and cleaning up the mess lovie and other created!!!!! I, The Buc Realist have given this new regime a 3 year pass!!!! As we need the draft picks to mature, continue to add to the roster as it is closer than some around here think!!! Just to put it into terms that some of you can understand, Even the so called hall of fame coach dungy with many hall of famers and ring of honor and multiple pro-bowlers stunk the first 8 games!!!

    Go Vote America!!!!

    And GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!

  12. Bob in valrico Says:

although corners and linebackers played all game.It was pretty evident
that the guys in the trenches(especially defense because they played so many plays) were the most affected by the long game and short break.

  13. Chris Says:

Glad to know the reason they were so bad was not that they were tired. It was just that they suck.

  14. LakeLandBuc Says:

Lol these are the Yucs, they sucs.

  15. Curse of Gruden Says:

    More “Pablo,” please…

  16. 813bucboi Says:

@realist…that’s total BS…..your still making excuses for why dirk has failed this team….this team has regressed point blank & period….in the beginning of the season you stated how tough the first 5 games of the season would be…now its jumped up to 8…BS….we only played 3 teams with a winning record Denver, oak & atl….everyone else besides the 9ers has the same record as us but they don’t look half as bad(arz-3-4, la-3-5,car-3-5)…..face it, dirk is incompetent….the falcons had the same turn around as us….they came off an emotional game against a good team….with competent coaching we should be 6-2…but instead we get blown out yet again under dirk….

give this team a 3year pass?….why should I?….a coach that has the worst oline in the league, no franchise qb, no oc and no talent on defense deserves a free pass….not a coach that has a franchise qb, better talent on defense and his competent coaching staff in place…..

dirk is showing why he and smitty got canned….dirk is showing us why no one considered him a hc candidate prior to working with Winston who has along with the defense regressed….dirk is showing us why he spent a year in his basement…smitty is showing us why he got canned and the reason why only dirk gave his phone a ring….that was to return a favor…nothing more nothing less….friends taking care of friends….

this team and more importantly our qb has regressed….dirk is committing coaching 101 mistakes….we may not win another game this year with this incompetent coach at the helm….funny how people love to make excuses for dirk….is 6-10 under dirk better than 6-10 from last year?….is 3-13 better than 6-10 from last year….the SHEEP will scream yes….SMDH….GO BUCS!!!

  17. 813bucboi Says:

@realist…with his incompetent decision making the team will quit on him….people say the team(defense) was gassed but it also looked like they quit on him and have lost faith….leaving in your franchise qb and star wr during a blow out(again) in unacceptable….what was the thinking behind that?…just another coaching 101 mistake but dirk….lose vs the bears and we may not see another win this year…..GO BUCS!!!!

  18. Lord Corn Says:

813 can u at least wait more than 8 games to come up with such definitive conclusions about a first year HC? Jesus man

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

@813- Not for nothing, but the Bucs have been jettisoning coaches every 2-3 years and look how awful this franchise looks. I actually agree with Realist in that it would be a colossal mistake to fire and hire more coaches this early in the game.
There’s no question that this team looks, at least on defense, like a hot, steamy turd! I don’t see where we’ve improved significantly since last year as some do but, as a Buc fan, I have to have faith that it will turn around. I don’t like it but I’m still a fan.
If there’s one thing that we’ve learned over the last decade of losing is that the road map to a bad franchise has been well-written!

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo forgot to mention that Pablo uses PEDs to help Pablo. Pablo thinks the NFL should allow PEDs…..it will make the game more better, Pablo thinks. Pablo used to think PED stood for “Peni$ enhancement drugs” Pablo doesn’t need that but Pablo needs a little pick-me-upper sometimes”

  21. JJBucFan Says:

Anyone know if the NFL has apologized to the Bucs for botching the replay review on JJ11 catch? That was the final nail, we were down by 6 and that was 3rd and 5 and they would have been punting. The subsequently went down and scored a TD. Did they apologize for the obvious horse collar that happened in the middle of the field that ended Antone Smiths season? The NFL doesn’t apologize to teams like us, just the Patriots, Cowboys, etc. Getting sick of the disrespect to the Bucs. Totally not the reason we lost, but teams that are mediocre or ones that are still learning how to win, can’t recover from those things.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @realist

You are starting to slip with the “Coach My Scheme” references……you simply can’t help yourself.

  23. Guzzie Says:

Sadly the Bucs haven’t digressed from last year, they are the same team minus Doug, although quizz played as well as doug did last year, the main difference from the incompetent coaching and players from last year and this year is the schedule was easy last year, in 4 years of Licht, the team hasn’t improved talent wise, and the same mistakes are happening, relying on old injury prone players, or backup level secondary play, grimes is 34 playing snaps like he’s 24, and Hargreaves is still a rookie playing like a rookie, and neither gets any help from these pathetic safeties or defensive line, paying $10 million to a 34 past his prime WR, it’s all problems the Bucs had last year, and everyone knew this but our GM, EVERYONE knew this, I mean EVERYONE

  24. Guzzie Says:

Luckily our GM had the insight to trade 2 premium depth building picks for a 50% kicker, just sad

  25. Duke Says:

    @bucsfanman,

the road to failure is indeed well traveled in Tampa. The numerous comments suggesting 8 games is enough justify another organizational change is doubling down on failure. Why fire one coach a year when we can fire possibly two in the same period. Accelerated failure.

Glazers have been denounced and told they should sell the team because they can’t win. The fact is that they have listened to the fans and lost. My hope is that either the Glazers or the fans actually learn from the mistakes they have collectively made.

  26. LakeLandBuc Says:

813bucboi, I sincerely approve your message. You have my vote as one of JoeBucFan most knowledgeable commenters.

  27. ATrain Says:

Joe did you ask your BroMance McCoy
    If fatigue got him.
Wait he had 3 tackles which was a great improvement over the game before 1 tackle.

    What’s Wrong with the Bucs??
There are paying about 1.2 million to get a tackle out of one player…

  28. 813bucboi Says:

@bucsfanman and @lord…..then I guess we’ll be just like the jax….waiting for their rookie hc to “adjust to the NFL”….SMDH…GO BUCS!!!!

  29. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Oh my Pablo and the PEDs..lol!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Kobe Faker Says:

    Guzzie nice points

Why does most qbs have better 2nd years than their rookie year?

Because most competent GMs will bring players to surround enhance the qb after his rookie year

We are in need of a legit wr2 to help jameis, open/ spread the field and alieviate evans from the double team

How really succesdfull would derek carr be if he had only amari cooper and no crabtree? Defenses would double and blanket cooper with no windows

*even with loaded recievers, n o saints still gave btee s michael thomas wr in the 2nd rounf

We like all successful teams would have brought evans back with a readjusted contract and brought in 2 top wrs

Jason gump was worried how vjack looked and brought in another often injured cecil shorts a day before kickoff

Kobe has crunched numbers and stats. We will have automatic toughest schedule for the next 3-4 years….

Atl, saints, car…will dominate the nfc for the next 3 years..6 games every year against these nfc top teams

  31. Chris Says:

Hopefully Jameis doesn’t get our franchise receiver killed with anymore high and over the wrong shoulder throws. Nothing being said at all on here about that terrible throw. Of course, it’s everybody’s fault but Jameis. Think I’ll be like Mije ZJohnson, I’m tiring with the talk of a perennial s..tty team. Coaches that suck, GMs that suck, players that suck. Cleveland South, with our very own Tim Couch.

  32. AtlBucFanDan Says:

Unlike most here, I think Dirk had his team ready for the Chickies. They simply ran out of gas…

  33. BigHogHaynes Says:

The last 8 games may turn out to be tougher than the first 8! Getting rid of Lovie hasn’t won us one meaningful game! 8 games to play with 6 games to win to show improvement over the last REGIME! GO BUCS DON’T BOO VOTE!!
