Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes knows what it’s like to win a division title and play on teams that were expected to win in December and make the playoffs.

Few guys on the field for the Bucs have that experience.

After today’s game, Joe talked to Grimes one-on-one as he packed up quickly to exit a fired up Bucs locker room after beating the Seahawks.

Grimes, who is known for keeping his commentary short, direct and without a lot of clichés, had a lot of praise for the game called by defensive coordinator Mike Smith. Grimes also was emotional about the production today of Alterraun Verner, whose father died two days ago. “Oh, man. That’s my guy. That’s a family member, you know. He lost his dad and we all felt that,” he said.

But beyond that, Grimes really seemed almost completely over the victory less than an hour after the final whistle. He said by Monday morning at the latest he’ll have moved on — and he hopes that’s what the rest of the Bucs will do.

“Just keeping all the way real. It’s just one win. The really good teams know that,” Grimes said.

This is going to be a huge week for the Bucs in the national media. Their praises will be sung across the country by every big name blowhard analyst.

This is new December territory for most of the Bucs. Joe hopes they’re strong enough to tune it out and stay focused like Grimes is.

IMO, ‘perspective’ is realizing that the Defense bailed us out of this game after the Offensive ‘game plan’ changed in the second quarter and Never realized how it F’d up.

  2. GhostofSchiano Says:

Chargers, cowboys panthers and Saints twice, oh my.

  3. Glennongrad Says:

Too many people chalking it up as a bad Seahawks loss, not as a major Bucs victory. The NFL article is filled with Cowgirls fans arguing with today’s losers about the Super Bowl and dumb stuff like that. Hoping a SD win will solidify our status as threats.

  4. SB with Jameis Says:

Super Happy for the win. I can barely talk I screamed so much. But 14 points in less than 15 minutes and ZIP thereafter?
This won’t happen again and we get a ‘W’

  5. SCBucsFan Says:

We can definitely take the Chargers, but we need not get too high on this win lest we see a repeat of the Arizona game. Hopefully Gerald’s okay. He had a boot on after the game. This team plays a lot better when they’re complete.

  6. Newbucsfan2 Says:

Hello everyone … we just beat the SEAHAWKS! In fact, We DOMINATED them!

  7. Newbucsfan2 Says:

What were they finally rated at before we beat them???

    ………………………….
This statement Epitomizes how us grinders should feel. We aren’t there yet but DAMNN it looks like we are close! 3 Phase FOOTBALL was played today gentleman.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This was a fantastic win…..but we still have some things to clean up….especially on offense….penalties….clock management….some playcalling issues…..but our defense and special teams were strong enough to carry us today.

Our punter is fantastic….4-4 inside the 20….hang time was awesome….and our coverage was strong.

  11. Trubucfan22 Says:

Offense and defense play hand in hand. When the offense scores more than opposition, that is a job well done. Criticizing is for losses.

If the defense would have gave up 30 points and the offense still only had 14 points, that would be a poor offensive performance. Because they didn’t work with the defense to win the game. If the defense gives up 30, the offense must put up 31. If the defense gives up 3. Then 14 points is enough to win the game and everyone goes home happy. The 2 sides go hand in hand. In a loss you can blame the defense for giving up too many points, or blame the offense for not scoring enough. But in the end the TEAM lost, neither side did enough to win, and the team lost.

If the defense had given up more points, the offense would had called the game different. The scoreboard indicates how aggressive or conservative to call a game. And players play differently when in a clutch or critical situation. Just because the offense didn’t score 40 points doesn’t make it a bad performance. Because in reality the bucs dominated offensively. We ran effectively at times and Jameis was picking apart the legion of boom. It didn’t convert into a lot of points, but that’s the great thing about team sports. They didn’t need to score a lot to win the game. Just like last week when the bucs offense struggled in the redzone. It wasn’t ideal to have to kick 4 FGs but it was enough to win.

And let’s not forget that the last 2 defenses we faced are 2 of the best in the league.

    It’s all perspective.

And I love this win………….time to start thinking about the chargers. They have fire power. Let’s get going on the chargers please. I love our wins, but I want to keep on winning!!!!!!!

  13. Glennongrad Says:

God this win is so dang sweet. Not a whole lot of Seahawks or Bucs fans at UNC, but a Bucs win (and Panthers loss) makes my day on campus that much sweeter.

  14. TampaBay AllDay Says:

    @SB with Jameis, Yes sir!!!!

  15. Simeon97 Says:

This week we will officially be the “team that no one Wants to see in the first round”.

Great win. Felt like late 90s early 00 bucs excitement. Things are finally coming together

  16. SB with Jameis Says:

Just think how “Complete’ we could be.We are close.

  17. unbelievable Says:

Great all around game. We dominated at the LOS and time of possession. I also didn’t like the fact that we never scored again after the 1st quarter, but we were still moving the ball well and co trolling the clock.

We also got badly hosed on a few of those calls. Even with our own miscues, Brate still should have had that touchdown. We clean up a few things and maybe get more fair refs, and that game is easily 28 – 3.

What I’m saying is, it feels damn good to see this team can go toe to toe with the best of the league. Players have figured out the scheme and we’re finally healthy.

  18. Julian Jordan Says:

I’m with Grimes, dont bask in that victory. Beating the Seahawks does not equate to a ring. Stay focused on the goal and keep grinding your not there yet please dont get laxed.

  19. Julian Jordan Says:

Did anybody else notice the 3-4 wrinkles coming to life in that defense.. Lavonte David looked good up on the line

  20. unbelievable Says:

This week will be their next biggest test. Can they stay focused and still practice hard before a west coast trip against a dangerous offense? Or will we have a week 1-2 repeat?

I think this team is in the right headspace and will move on quickly. At least I hope!

  21. David Says:

The best thing that can happen is no one gives us praise and even calls this a “bad loss” for the Seahawks. I want us to feel so disrespected that we come out mad as hell and pound the chargers into the ground!

  22. America's Commenter Says:

That was a fantastic and completely unexpected win! The defense appears to have finally settled in to the new system and kicking some butt, and that will take the pressure off of Winston and company. There are still concerns about the way Winston holds the ball too long and forces it to Evans, but that seems to be working so let’s leave it alone for now. Maybe it’s a new paradigm in the NFL?

Lovie Smith said real football starts in November, and the Bucs went 3-1 in November and are clearly rolling when it counts. They have to get to 10 wins and sweep both New Orleans and Carolina for a legitimate shot at the playoffs. Yup, I said it. Playoffs.

  23. Maurice Washington Says:

Holds the ball too long?!?! That’s their O. It’s vertical, not west coast. Btw, have you ever seen Big Ben? That’s Winston’s style.

  24. Livin' in AZ, but Bucs Fan Says:

Not a lot of Bucs fans around here. I get a lot of pitying looks when people see my Bucs gear (especially after week 2). Feels good to be a Buc fan today!
