Is Koetter Calling For A Ban On The “Den Of Depression” Nickname?

Did Joe get an indirect finger-wagging?

Very interesting commentary from head coach Dirk Koetter.

Early in his postgame news conference, Koetter was asked about Alterraun Verner. The head coach answered but quickly rolled into a take on the boisterous crowd today at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.

“The crowd was awesome. I think whatever that nickname you guys have, it’s not my nickname, so don’t put it on me. But whatever that nickname you guys call it, I think we could put that to bed,” Koetter said. “Because the fans were fantastic. That place was rocking. I was trying to talk to guys on the field, and it’s a waste of your breath because they couldn’t hear a word you were saying.”

Regular readers here know Joe often refers to the home field as the “Den of Depression,” since the Bucs have won the least home games of all NFL teams since the start of the 2009 season.

When the Bucs don’t finish a season with a losing home record, Joe’s written previously, then it will be time to kill the nickname.

Joe knows of no other nickname for the Bucs’ home turf, so it seems Koetter doesn’t like the term “Den of Depression.” What else could he be referring to?

The Bucs are now 2-4 at home. Beat the Saints and Panthers, Coach, the Bucs’ two remaining home games, and the nickname goes away.

Sat amongst a bunch of obnoxious Seahawk “fans” (pretty sure they just became fans since Seattle got good – funny how everybody loves a winner) and it was so much fun shutting them up. Hope Mrs. Brent Grimes took notice of the Bucs faithful – play well and the noise will follow. Simple as that.

    Satch seven
How dumb does that sound? Licht drafted the past 3 years and the only really Loser Lovie x-bear holdover is Conte. So he is winning with His team and Licht team. And 3 of our “cornerstones” (LVD, GMC, DM22) are Doms guys. He is winning with the BUCS, just acept that.

  11. Eric Says:

Can we skip the who is winning with whose team analysis this time?

    Just be happy.

  15. yrbndr Says:

The Bucs won! @ satch7 gives us a break! Show your ticket stub, stop the negativity! You are even bringing up the Gruden regime. He recycled the roster and won the Super Bowl! No discredit to Dungy he brought us to the precipice. If you can’t celebrate this win what are you doing here other than showing your arse!

  16. Chucklehead Says:

With a solid performance and a win like that, not even I would complain about 87 banging on the seat next to me. Go Bucs.

Den of Aggression sounds about right!

And let me just say, that stadium was ELECTRIC tonight. I won’t have a voice for a few days, but man, it was worth it. A real playoff atmosphere.

Joes, long time viewer – first time poster. Keep doing God’s work, you two.

  25. TampaBay AllDay Says:

Koetter is on on point. Just win at least 3 more games for me, please.

  26. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

It’s funny before the game I was talking to someone who works for pewter report and he told me most laugh at Joe Buc because of the questions or statements he says in the media conferences. Absolute ludicrous statement. All the news conferences are available on Buccaneers.com –Joe I told him but that’s what makes Joe great. He says whatever he wants to say which I’m my opinion is what gives us the true heartbeat of this team. Bucs fans have faith! They all showed up tonight. And yes Tampa is back baby and we are not playin around! Go Bucs!!!

    The Slaughterhouse

If I had the access and equipment I’d do it. But this song would be perfect for a promo vid. (a montage of plays being made from the guys from different games) Just close your eyes and listen to the music, especially at 1:08 when it builds and kicks in. This song….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWAIJTtvhK0

  28. DB55 Says:

    They all showed up tonight.
    ——-
    You got that right.

  29. SB with Jameis Says:

IMO if Koetter wants Joe’s name to cease and desist then he needs to Just Flippin Win!!!! He came close to perpetuating the name today when he for some reason fixed what wasn’t broke and stopped throwing to ME13. Coach, you are doing good in my humble opinion but You are lucky the Defense Bailed you out. NO WAY you should go 47 minutes without scoring a point or something of that matter.

  30. SB with Jameis Says:

What up DB. Hope you and the fam are doing well.

    @lightning bucsfan

Were you in section 343 like I was? We had a few obnoxious seabuzzard fans in our section. At least one seabuzzard fan behind me reported the most obnixous seabuzzard fan to the text message system and security showed up with a few deputies to quell the situation. It was impressive response.

  35. Pit Says:

Zod you spoiled little brat. The cheap sits is where you can find the biggest fans. If you want the suit guys(loser fans) keep buying the expensive sit.
    Zod little piece of sh*t

  36. DallasBuc Says:

    Delicate sensibilities

  37. Bill Says:

It sounds like Koetter wishes there was an influential media outlet ran by an average Joe who loved the Bucs and promoted a fan culture that might help the team on the field. Clearly, Koetter does not think that situation exists in Tampa. Someone will respond to that.

  38. Bob in valrico Says:

    @Sb
You forget Koetter was going to Evans for his third TD and Jameis missed
him. Also Demar Dotson had a penalty that stalled another drive. That said
incomplete passes do not kill the clock, the running game does.I am with you on stepping on the other teams throat offensively.Hopefully this team will
get there soon.Ibelieve the deep ball to Evans can be improve on to make it happen.

  39. Patrick in VA Says:

Still banging the drum for the Licht House. After Spence, Ayers, Russell, and Jameis came up big today, while the offensive line that he’s put together has come up big the past two years, I think there’s no question that he’s left his mark and is directly responsible for this run that we’re on.
