“I’ll Take Responsibility”
November 21st, 2016Dirk Koetter called it the play of the game. Andy Reid sure thought so too.
It was Chris Conte’s pick of Alex Smith in the end zone on a fourth-quarter, play-action pass tipped by Gerald McCoy. Conte brought the ball out to midfield and the Bucs punched it in the end zone for the game-winner in one of the biggest Bucs upsets in recent memory.
Here, courtesy of the Kansas City Star, Reid and Smith discuss Conte’s play. Conte clearly took the Chiefs by surprise.

Great play by Conte! It looks like he did his homework!

When a Patriot makes an interception in the end zone, it’s coaching and play recognition. When a Buccaneer does the same thing, the player “screwed up.”

Never realized how snotty and annoying Chiefs fans were/are.

Even if we had lost I was very impressed on how well they played, they actually looked like a NFL team. Conte did a good job but he also got burnt for a touchdown a few plays later, but still good job Conte and Bucs

At the time I was wanting Conte to take a knee. I was like “No, no, no….yes yes yes!”

Headlines up here reference Jameis comeback against KC secondary minus Marcus Peters. As if there has to be SOME reason we won. It takes time to change people’s perception but hopefully we are turning the corner. Now if we just figure out a way to win at home. And wouldn’t it be nice to have a home field advantage some day at Ray Jay like they give the Chiefs in KC?

Its about time Conte started earning his money. God knows he’s had a whole lotta games where he was..just on the field like a ghost doin nothing. If only we could get a few others to..flash and show more…..

Really not thrilled with LVDs performance. I definitely noticed him blitzing a lot more, but even then we couldn’t put Alex Smith to the ground. Of course their little West Coast offense thing is a good counter to high pressure, still wanted to see some results from the guy today to put me at ease.

Yeah, especially when it’s tipped by a “ghost” named GMC. 🙂

They counted on Conte to bite on the run fake, and he didn’t.

@Glnnongrad
I thought they while not getting sacks, actually was putting A Smith on the ground a lot!!!!
As far as LVD54 is concerned, I think at the end of the year we will hear something along the lines of his shoulder was all torn up. For the record, I have no sources backing this up.

For every good play Conte makes, he makes 5 bad ones. The guy isn’t a good NFL player – BUT he made a big play in a big moment. Of course if he’s not getting burned for TDs over and over and over and over again then the Bucs wouldn’t be in the position of needing big plays. BUT he made that play so give him credit, for that play.

Some people will never realize the value that Conte has. 2 weeks in a row they emphasize plays they think was his fault instead of 2 game changing plays that he made. If I hear one more time, somebody incorrectly stating that he was at fault with the hail mary against the Bears, I am going to puke. All I can say is watch the play again and pay attention to McDougald. The TD was on Conte but he had good coverage. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the Qb delivering a perfect pass.

Conte has been great last few games. But that dude has caused more broken remotes in the Tampa Bay area than puppies with some really awful plays at the worst possible time.
When he wins us as many games as he has lost us, think it will help keep him out of the local dog house on a more permanent basis.
