Calling Cecil Shorts

Joe is trying to wake up Cecil Shorts with this picture

Unfortunately, the Buccaneers’ M.I.A. receiver is actually on the field of play taking lots of snaps.

Joe’s talking about Cecil Shorts, the September free-agent pickup by Jason Licht. He’s started two games, played in four, and has two catches. He got injured in Arizona making his first Bucs catch — a sweet one-handed grab.

Shorts is healthy now with two full months under his belt studying the offense. And he had a head start since he played under Dirk Koetter in Jacksonville.

No more excuses.

During the Bucs-Falcons game last week, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, sprinted up to Shorts following an interceptions and barked at him — subject unknown.

The Bucs can talk all they want about how Mike Evans is supposed to beat double teams and that sounds all good. But it’s really not.

Shorts showing up would be a godsend for this Bucs team. And he should be able to do it at 28 years old and a veteran of 220 catches in 5 1/2 seasons.

Russell Shepard has been injured for two weeks. Adam Humphries is a slot guy. And Louis Murphy is done. Freddie Martino seems distracted by his offseason gigs at the velvet-lined Vero Beach Ramada Inn.

C’mon, Shorts. Step up!

sorry but besides evans, shep ,and hump…I have no faith in this wr core….DIRK=JIM TOMSULA….GO BUCS!!!!

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I have no faith in anyone but Evans, Hump and Brate on offense at all (outside from a couple Oliners).

Shep is no uses because he can’t stay healthy.

  3. Fire the glazers Says:

Is it sad that I’m already scouting college WEs and DEs to see who I think the Bucs might draft???

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Looks like Cecil Shorts has had an interesting up-and-down career. Drafted in 2011 by the Jaguars (yup, the last year that Dirk Koetter was their OC), Cecil did nothing rookie year. But the next year he exploded (55 catches in 105 targets for 979 yds & 7 TDs). His average that year was 18 yds/catch so I assume he was used quite a bit as a deep threat. Yds/catch & total yardage slid lower in 2013 & 2014 even though he was targeted more each of those years. Went to Houston in 2015 & gained about 500 yds but nothing spectacular. Not particularly fast (4.59 secs in the 40). Never know though, he might be able to resurrect his 2012 performance with the Bucs, at least in the short term.

  5. BlitZen Says:

If jameis were to go through his reads he would be able to see his 3rd and 4th option receivers getting open. Can’t really show up unless the all is thrown his way

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Someone really needs to step up. And when the offseason comes. The first priority needs to be someone opposite of ME13!!!!! I know that Joe will love the rewards, accolades and Franchise numbers that ME13 will get and set!!! But Just like the story posted of “gang tackling” and making a player have serveral hits, that is what is happening to ME13 because he is 40% of the offense!!!!

Do not let the same thing happen to calvin johnson happen to ME13!!! all the franchise numbers, and a short career because he was the only weapon most of the time!!!!!

Bucs NFL 2017 draft Wr, Te, and Safety!!!!!

  7. dmatt Says:

Our first priority should be stocking up with proven playmaker FA’s in 2017. Enough said…do the Bucs want to continue to REPEAT as LOSERS…or, COMPETE as WINNERS? Wake up GM!! I’m tired of this gotta learn the defense crap…these are professionals. Jameis need support n he needs it now!! Bring on the Calvary!!

    WR- Alshon Jeffery- A must!!
    WR-Michael Floyd or Cordelle Patterson
    TE-Martellus Bennett-
DE-Jason Pierre Paul- If negotiated right, can get on the cheap end.
    FS-Eric Berry-
SS-Donte Whitner- a young 31 year old former pro bowler with playoff and SB experience.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

I have no faith in this team..None Whatsoever! They are painful to watch. Thank God I have a setup where I’m watching at least 4 games at a time. All a team needs to do is take out Evans and they got a route. Its truly hard to get excited about a team you watch who consistently lacks drive and effort. Think I’ll just join my man Sweezy and smoke a bowl on Sunday.

  9. j$mac Says:

Cecil Shorts you just made the list. I cant believe he is still on the team i certainly hope he gets released on monday or tuesday. We need to start cutting these bums loose. Chris Conte and Cecil Shorts should not be on this team.

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

cecil short only reason he is still here is because the buffon licht paid him a million dollars

There are 2 wrs in each teams practice squads better than this slow fool

Jason gump is not going to admit his screwup because his fvkup list is ever growing

  11. Bird Says:
