Playoff Odds

Grim playoff odds.

Grim playoff odds.

Can the Bucs make the playoffs? Well, at 2-3 they have a prayer.

But according to Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders, typing for BSPN, the Bucs have one helluva prayer. Schatz believes it will take a rosary of Hail Marys for the Bucs to be playing meaningful games in January.

In fact, of the 16 NFC teams, Schatz’s numbers put the Bucs at No. 13 in the NFC to make the playoffs.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3)

Odds of making playoffs: 9.0 percent

Tampa Bay’s offense is the worst in the NFL this year before halftime, but ranks seventh after halftime.

So what the hell ever happened to the “fast starts” Bucs coach Dirk Koetter always used to talk about? Notice he hasn’t mentioned that in recent weeks? Used to be all he talked about.

Until or unless this offense is fixed — and it looked terribly wobbly against a decimated Stinking Panthers squad this week — playoffs just might be a pipe dream.

Well now, that was depressing. Eh… screw BSPN

  2. Bird Says:

Uh. He has to gameplan on how Jameis is looking early on. Simple as that. If Jameis is on then he is chucking the ball down field. If Jameis is inaccurate or throws an early pick like he has recently, then they will run until Jameis turns it around. Simple as that. Love koetter. People on this site don’t. He has a tough job on gameplanning based mr consistently inconsistent

    Bird is right on!

Now that we have the running game back we will start having a balance attack again. We are about to win 4 out of the next 5 games, if not all 5. 7-3 would be sweet. We need to protect the ball and all can start going our way.

It is evident the culture is this team is totally different from years past. This team is developing an Ayers attitude needed to regain respect. Ayers talked to the d-linemen prior to the nc game and they responded with great attitude and performance. This team is different from old Bucs teams. The tone will be set in the next 5 games.

    Go Bucs!!!!

The odds would change considerably with an Atlanta loss and a Bucs win next week.
We absolutely, positively must get some players back from injury….we just aren’t talented and deep enough to win without them.

    So you’re saying there’s a chance…

    I’ll take it.

  6. Espo Says:

We can win this division. ATL will fall off like last year. CAR and NO aren’t any good.

“So what the hell ever happened to the “fast starts”

Well for one, ‘America’s Quarterback’ has been slinging the most 1st quarter INTs in the league. Alot of people want to (rightfully) rag on the kicker, but Jameis has been as much or more to blame in each loss. Koetter hasn’t helped towards the end of games with his pansy ass playcalling.

At the end of the day, this team doesn’t have enough to make the playoffs unless the Falcons implode, which doesn’t look all that realistic right now. They look like a solid football team. Watching the Bucs play is like watching a 4th preseason game.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Never expected playoffs to begin with.

  10. R.O. Says:

1st sentence should read “Will” the Bucs make the Playoffs.. “Can” they? Sure can. No team has been eliminated…. “Will” they is a different answer.

  11. Han Solo Says:

    Never tell me the odds…

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

Playoffs/ PLAYOFFS? You kiddin me?!! The only playoffs the Bucs are gonna see this year are the ones they’ll be viewing on TV with the rest of us.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

    @shutthebucup….I agree….

I will say that I think dirk has found an offensive formula that can be our identity….pound the rock and mix in a few dump passes as well as screens….this will get the running backs into a rhythm and get jameis into the flow of the game while taking high percentage throws, easy completions….then make adjustments and begin to execute your explosive plays….none of this matters if we don’t protect the ball but last week we saw dirk being very caution with jameis and finally did not abandon the run…..defense played solid and kept us in the game….hopefully we can build on this performance as a team…dirk, mike smith, jameis, the defense and Roberto….GO BUCS!!!

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    @mike Johnson…LOLOLOLOLOL….GO BUCS!!!!

All jokes aside we still have a chance we just have to win…we just have to win 7 of our remaining 8 nfc games and steal 1 or 2 vs the afc….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. LakeLandBuc Says:

The question should be. Will the Bucs make the playoffs in the next 10 years.

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

We dont have the talent level of a playoff caliper team

Too many holes and our safety/linebacker pass coverage is the worst in the NFL

Did you guys see the couple of plays Greg Olsen was 20 yards from anybody? Thats high school level. embarrassing

  17. briandorry55 Says:

Who cares – go destroy Kraepernick and beat the 9ers.

  18. Joel Says:

Not to dampen the Jameis train but Josh Freeman threw for 25 and 6 in his second year…..Jameis on track for about 27 TD’s and 24 picks, is he the Franchise????

  19. LakeLandBuc Says:

The inmates at the Polk County Jail has a better chance of getting an early release from Sheriff Grady Judd, than the Bucs have of making the playoffs.

  20. PRBucFan Says:

What happened? Ask Winston and the offense with all their turnovers.

  21. Getaclue Says:

    Any word on Louis Murphy?
