National talk radio host shoots arrows..

National talk radio host shoots arrows.

It’s coming down from all corners on embattled Bucs kicker Roberto Aguayo.

It’s bad enough Bucs fans have gone on hunger strikes until Aguayo, hitting on 50 percent of his kicks, is off the active roster. Now, national media types are firing at Aguayo.

Take the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM fame. Russo, who hosts the “Custodian of Canton,” JoeBucsFan.com columnist eye-RAH! Kaufman, weekly on his show heard exclusively on “Mad Dog Radio,” went off on Aguayo this week and believes Aguayo is mentally unprepared to kick in the NFL.

eye-RAH! Kaufman: By the way, [Bucs-Panthers] was a terrible game, an awful game. [Jon] Gruden screaming about the penalties and the sloppiness. It was a big win for [Bucs coach Dirk] Koetter and the Bucs pulled one out, but Chris, they have a rookie kicker they traded up for who is a major issue.

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo: Oh my God! This guy is a headcase. This guy Aguayo from Florida State can’t make a kick. He was phenomenal in college. You know him, what’s going on there? Fill me in.

Kaufman: I will say this Chris; I don’t want to make you laugh. But, uh, if the kid wasn’t a second round pick, he would already be gone. You know that. He would already be gone.

Russo: Absolutely. Absolutely.

Joe has stated it before and will state it again: Aguayo is safe for the year, maybe safe through 2017. The Bucs are not about to have a second round pick walk the plank in his rookie season, not even if he is only making 40 percent of his kicks. Much, much, much to big of an investment to toss aside like a used beer cup.

Besides, rookie kickers often struggle. Bucs fans who gnash their teeth at the sight of Aguayo are just going to have to do shots of Maalox and deal with it. Aguayo isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

I’m as upset with this guy as anybody but he just hit a game winning field goal and that can be a major confidence booster.

  2. DallasBuc Says:

AguaOh,no is a syptom, not the cause. It is Free Pass Licht’s fevered ego that allowed him to think that just because he worked with great talent evaluators like Belichek means the he is smart and savvy enough to trade up into the 2nd effin round to draft a place kicker. You are no Bill Belichek, sir. He took the risk, the kid isn’t cut out for the pro game so Licht should have to pay. I’m done with this guy’s mediocre track record. Enough with the damn excuses. The conflict of interest around these parts preventing independent sober takes on the people in charge of this ship is widely evident. Nothing is pure anymore.

  3. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Joe we have cut ASJ and Revis and traded Barron for peanuts. We have wasted numerous #1s and #2s (Benn and Jackson as well) so what is one more. You claim Licht learned in NE to cut his losses quickly when a mistake is made. Koetter is clearly fed up. I think if he misses a couple in the next game he willing at the very least be hidden on the IR with a hang nail ala Kenny Bell.

  4. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Dallas, Licht did not make that decision. I’m assuming Joe probably knows this as well. That pick was made by the Glazers against the advice of scouts and the football guys at One Buc. You can blame Licht if you want but when the owners of the business give you a directive you have to obey. I also blamed Licht initially but it wasn’t his choice.

Please point to your source for this…..

  6. Sam S Says:

Where’s a staph outbreak when you need one??? … Seriously though, he needs to mysteriously end up on IR somehow, try again next year

  7. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I cannot. I was told in co I cannot. I was told in confidence

  8. D-Rome Says:

Joe we have cut ASJ and Revis and traded Barron for peanuts

The 4th round pick we received from the Rams was used in part to get Kwon Alexander and Ali Marpet.

Dallas, Licht did not make that decision. I’m assuming Joe probably knows this as well. That pick was made by the Glazers against the advice of scouts and the football guys at One Buc.

What rubbish! Not one reputable reporter locally or nationally has ever suggested such a thing but an anonymous commenter on a Bucs blog has the inside scoop? It’s one thing to support the team and hope the GM does well but it’s quite another to whitewash the decisions made by said GM.

  9. WutdaBUCisthis? Says:

    Yea touchdown… Please elaborate

  10. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Whatever you want to think D Rome. I wasn’t going to post it because I would say the same thing if someone else posted it. I’m not a whacko or a homer though. Not everyone that takes place at One Buc is released to the media.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t care WHERE he was drafted.

Learn from Brindza as he pretty much cost Lovie his job.

I am not here to call anyone’s integrity into question…..but you & your anonymous source have absolutely no credibility unless it is backed up by a reputable source.

  13. Scott Says:

I didn’t like during MNF that the side announcer said she asked Dirk if he spoke to Roberto and he said no. I think it’s obvious he’s over thinking it. Just needs dirk to tell him relax and I’m sure he will start converting. But hitting the game winner after missing a couple is huge

  14. Cover Deuce Says:

Should have drafted a pass catcher or a DL. You can find serviceable (70%-80%) kickers on the street. We still have/had too many holes to spend that high a pick on a specialist.

  15. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

I said it, I’ll keep saying it. This is all Licht’s fault. He put an unproven kicker into a no win situation. Imagine paying $1000 for dinner, no matter how good it will taste, you’re still going to raise the bar insanely high on your expectations, because damn it, you spent $1000 like a dumbass. A $1000 steak will taste the same as a $10 steak, except the $10 steak doesn’t make you look like a retard when you pay the bill. Stupid Licht.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    “This Guy Is A Headcase”

Here without my glasses on and I thought the header read “This Guy Is A Headache”. Scrolled past it to read another article and thought to myself no shyte he’s a headache, I wonder who said that. lol

    Head……………ACHE!

  17. Bucsfan951 Says:

And $10 steak and $200 steak do not taste the same. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one.

  18. R.O. Says:

Umm not sure about the Penalty comment. I think the Bucs has 5, the timing of the penalties were very bad. The amount was way below average.

  19. DallasBuc Says:

TouchDownTampaBay- you don’t get to credibly make such a profoundly implausible assertion without the backing of a source…any source!!?!!! If you said that the Glazers made it clear that we draft Winston #1 overall that is completely plausible and doesn’t require sourcing to believe it. Sorry bud but the way Free Pass Licht creamed all over himself after drafting AguaOh,no in front whatever assembled media would listen to defend his bold and savvy decision certainly points to his ownership of the choice, not the Glazers.
People say the craziest sht around here!

  20. FLBoyInDallas Says:

I’m afraid what I know of Aguayo makes me suspect he may be mentally weak. It could be that FSU was such a perfect scenario for him psychologically that it can never be replicated in the NFL. He doesn’t seem mentally able to adapt to new and uncertain situations like the best players can. It seems Licht may have gotten too cute for his own good on this one, reaching in the hope of gaining a competitive advantage over other NFL teams. I think it backfired. It looks like Licht cost his franchise valuable picks on a player that has shown no value whatsoever thus far. He’s got lots of ‘splainin’ to do with the Glazer boys on this one, unfortunately.

  21. mac Says:

Lets give the kid a few more games… Obviously we are all frustrated by his performance but we are stuck unless he goes on IR… HOWEVER – he has only attempted a handful of kicks… Do you really want to see Aguayo in a Patriot uniform making All Pro next year…lol…

  22. DallasBuc Says:

mac- Belichek would never put this guy on the field because he is not reliable and he sucks.
This is a no brainier for any other team whose reputation is not on the line. It’s kind of outrageous that we have to field terrible kicker on an already struggling football to coddle the ego of our unaccountable GM.
    It’s total BS

  23. 813bucboi Says:

@touchdown…that’s bs….if Roberto was 8-8 than you would be saying licht is a genius….

I agree with most people on here regarding our kicker….if he was drafted in the 5th or 6th round he would be gone already…..with that being said we’ve sent plenty of talented players packing that didn’t do their job….he’s on thin ice….hopefully that game winning combined with a bye week will settle his nerves and regain confidence….GO BUCS!!!!

  24. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I was told in confidence. It’s as simple as that. I really don’t care if you believe me or not really.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

If Roberto does not become consistent by next yrs end..He’ll be flippin burgers at a local Checkers. All its gonna take is for him to miss a short game winning Field goal. And with his current kicking, it just might happen. As a fan,You should not have to, down a double and fall to your knees in prayer..praying he makes a 10 to 40 yrd Field goal. But everytime he kicks, that’s what a lot of us are doing. Figure it out Roberto or…I’ll be shouting at you for not giving me enough fries with my order!

  26. CalBucsFan Says:

The kid is struggling and needs to get his act together while the Bucs have too much invested in him to kick him to the curb yet. We get it already Joe! How about since we are mostly Bucs fans who post here and want to see Bucs players succeed and the team win, let’s get off the kid’s back and stop eviscerating him on a daily basis?

There will always be trollers dropping in staining content here, but let them be fed crap by the non-qualified, non-journalistic heads at BSPN who are all about ratings. Those idiots lack the journalistic cred to come up with NEW story lines and instead re-hash the same themes over and over, damn are they shallow slugs who only attract bottom-feeders.

Let’s all rise above and Siege the Day and prove to be better than slugs and bottom-feeders with fresh new content and some supportive comments. We can do it, can’t we Bucs Nation?

  27. DallasBuc Says:

TouchDownTampaBay- do you always believe everything the voices in your head tell you in confidence?

  28. Pit Says:

Dallasbuc do you ever like anybody on our management coaching team? Because for the last 4 years you keep talking sh*t about everybody……

  29. Cobraboy Says:

    Aguayo IS a headcase.

    Why?

Never in his career has he suffered any adversity. None. He played for an elite college team that gave him huge amounts of time to kick.

Go look at college film. I’ll bet he has .2 seconds longer to kick. In kicking terms, that’s like an extra week, much easier to spot your contact point and square your shoulders at the kick, no need to begin your approach until the ball is down.

In the pros, you need to be on your way as soon as you see the movement of the OL.

And *because* he never had any adversity, he doesn’t know what to do, how to dig himself out. This is new territory for him. He’s been in denial there is a problem.

In the NFL, kickers being virtually disposable commodities, ST coaches are X’s & O’s guys totally unable to deal with the psychological side of the kicker’s game. If a kicker goes mental, you just replace him, you don’t “fix” him. Not gonna happen this time, and there is no lifering to throw Aguayo.

One more comment: IMO, the DePaola snaps have been consistently high causing the holder to have to reach up with the entire upper body. Look at the great snappers in the NFL: the ball rarely is over 18″ off the ground, making the catch, drop, hold & spin almost one movement. (Andrew Economos was one of the best long snappers I ever saw in football.)

  30. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m hoping that he’ll be ok now that he made the most pressure filled kick of his life.

  31. OAR Says:

I had a headache once but it turned out to just be the Bucs kicker.

  32. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

licht goes down for this crappy timing of the pick

  33. BucinJAX Says:

Cobraboy, good to see another kicking post from you. Great analysis. Thanks.

  34. LakeLandBuc Says:

In three years this BUM will be on someone ROOF along side Juan and Jose. He’s not a NFL kicker, what a WASTE of a 3rd and 4th round pick. The Chargers drafted Jatavis Brown ( From Belle Glade) in the 5th round. 5’11 221, 4.42 speed, 33 reps on the bench press. Can play SS and OLB, this season, 42 tackles, 2 ff, 3 sacks, 4 PD. Jason Licht is the WORST GM in the NFL.

  35. DallasBuc Says:

Pit- in case you haven’t been keeping up with current events we’ve been getting our ass kicked pal

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The team you see after the bye week will be a different team than the one we saw this past week.

We were lucky to get a win at all this week, so I’m not about to complain about a win.

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DallasBuc Says
“Pit- in case you haven’t been keeping up with current events we’ve been getting our ass kicked pal”

We’re getting our butts kicked because there is zero continuity in the coaching staff. And why is that? Because a certain group of fans refuse to view the long picture and only desire instant, short term results.

The best teams know that for lasting results, you need to put in the time, trust in your chosen staff and give them at least…AT LEAST 3 years, if not more.

It worked in the past…but ever since the constant coaching staff changes kicked in, we have gotten nowhere.

  38. D-Rome Says:

In three years this BUM will be on someone ROOF along side Juan and Jose.

This nonsense belongs on Stormfront not JoeBucsFan.

  39. LakeLandBuc Says:

What’s wrong with being a roofer? They make good money ( it’s hard work ) but a good living.. And I personally don’t think he’s MAN enough to do the work, he’s too fragile.

  40. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol, Dallas you are one of a kind. You have to be the most miserable person alive. You berate everyone and everything. You know the people at OneBuc live in the Tampa area. It is possible that some of them may interact with other people in the community. Who knows maybe they attend social gatherings, community sporting events or neighborhood events. You never know, maybe just maybe somebody knows something that you are clueless about.

  41. Doctor Stroud Says:

The “head case” is a nominee for the Castrol EDGE Clutch Performer of the Week on NFL.com (along with Tom Bundchen, Tevin Coleman, and Andrew Luck). I would find it very funny if he beat out Tom Bundchen.

  42. D-Rome Says:

The “head case” is a nominee for the Castrol EDGE Clutch Performer of the Week on NFL.com

    He won. Seriously. Not joking.

  43. Doctor Stroud Says:

Wow! Does that buy him any more time in Tampa?

  44. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Aguayo will be fine. The head hunters may not like it but he will be fine!

  45. Johnny C Says:

Dallas buc, I’m with you. That whackjob TD TampaBay sounds like Trump quoting his “sources” Licht could not contain his glee at the draft when he made that pick as he thought he was smarter than everyone in the auditorium who were all quietly shaking their head at his incompetence. And if you have been critical of light and Dominitwit then you must know football. Seriously TD, the source is Licht in a duck costume who comes to your bedroom window every night, isn’t it?

  46. PRBucFan Says:

Lololol. That’s crazy talk. Zero way he remains our starting kicker if he continues multiple miss games. The HC and GM know this is the not for long league and that just keeping a kicker of all positions cause they gambled on a pick if he’s a liability and losing games will put them in hot water. Sure he may not get cut but they will sure as hell bring in another option if he continues missing.

  47. PRBucFan Says:

    P.S.
Lol Right the Glazers made him make that pick…
That’s bush league and whoever told you that is incredibly dumb or just trying to yank your chain.

  48. ruggyup Says:

Aguayo may be a head case. But, but, but, what if, as some enterprising and successful kicking coaches have done with surprisingly positive results, changed the holder???? Try it Bucs. You might like it and Aguayo might too.

  49. Tom S. Says:

Oh Aguayo had adversity at FSU. It just took until his 3rd year because the team around him so was good in year 1 and 2. And he connected on 80% of his kicks and cost his team a game in year 3. But “No Biscuit” Licht obviously didn’t bother to look at his year 3 film, instead focusing on Augayo’s no-pressure blowout-game kicks in year 1.

Go figure that a guy that got worse as the pressure got more intense would wilt under the demands of being a 2nd round pick.

  50. SOEbuc Says:

If he wasn’t a second round pick he would already be gone. WHICH REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!!!! Everyone says all that matters is the W’s but now just because Jason Licht doesn’t want to be even more embarrassed by the dumbest pick in draft history, they won’t cut him. It might have not even come down to the end in carolina if he made the two before. He also cost us 4 points in our St. Louis loss.

  51. SOEbuc Says:

Just mentioned the st louis loss and him costing us 4 points. Those points would of made it 37-35 instead of having to score a touchdown going through that ridiculous time management and play calls. Cant expect guys to be perfect but this is crazy.

  52. SOEbuc Says:

    ^^^ Sorry, 37-36 ^^^

  53. Tom S. Says:

SOEBbuc, the Rams play in LA now. So Augayo cost them against LA.

Also it should be noted that there was a 6 point swing because of Augayo’s missed kicks because Koetter went for 2 twice and failed both times because they were trying to make up the lost point on the XP. So 6 points lost in a game where the team loses by 5. Just to make it a little worse.

  54. Cobraboy Says:

Missed kicks are exactly like turnovers giving teams the ball in decent field position.

In Aguayo’s case, they’ve been game changers & momentum shifters, especially missed PAT’s.

    The misses are inexcusable.

    He owns the Ram’s loss.
