Grimes Has Been Sound Investment

Miko Grimes was quite happy with her husband’s play Monday night, and made sure Stinking Panthers fans knew it.

Joe gets these comments from time to time and just doesn’t understand them.

Some Bucs fans think veteran corner Brent Grimes is a has-been. Joe isn’t sure what they are watching unless they are conditioned by video games to believe corners should be perfect.

They aren’t, not even Deion Sanders (if you think Deion was perfect, Jerry Rice would like to have a word or two) was perfect.

Joe thinks Grimes has played very well. Some Bucs fans must have shorter memories than a cornerback. Do these same folks not remember the sieve of a secondary from last season?

Grimes made a helluva play against Kenny Britt of the Rams to set up a potential game-winning drive by America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. Remember, third down the Rams tried to hit Britt along the right sideline and Grimes skied like Michael Jordan to knock the ball away and force the Rams to punt?

Grimes came up big Monday night when the Bucs needed him the most. This was not lost on Bucs coach Dirk Koetter, as Koetter also discussed the second-biggest defensive play of the night, also by Grimes.

“Even more so than the interception was the tackle he made the play before that because if – even though we give Brent a hard time about him not being the greatest tackler in the world, think about if he doesn’t tackle that guy on the one-yard line, then that next play never happens, we’re already down,” Koetter said. “He kind of shoved that guy, got him down, dove for the end zone, they call it out at the one and then the next play Brent gets the interception.

“Brent actually got voted a game ball by the coaching staff today. He got the defensive game ball, Jacquizz Rodgers got the offensive game ball and [wide receiver] Russell Shepard got the special teams game ball.”

Meanwhile, remember, Grimes did all of this playing with a tender hamstring. Prior to the game, there was doubt as to whether Grimes would be suited up at all. Thank goodness he toughed it out.

When Joe gets these anti-Grimes Twitters, Joe just happens to think part of the reason some fans don’t like Grimes is the irrational hatred they have for his spirited wife, Miko Grimes.

In Joe’s eyes, the investment in Grimes was a sound move by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Joe how about you mention how mrs.Grimes went off on buc nation and the tampa media lmao

  2. Joe Says:

    Q:

Don’t know that she did and Joe, a credential member of the Bucs media corps, has no issues with Miko.

  3. AC Says:

she didnt go off on the tampa media she prettty much said that there are fans in Tampa at the game who bash her husband and say how he sucks but fans from other teams say they desperately need him on their team. And it is true. I see it here all the time Grimes had a bad game a couple weeks ago and kept slipping trying to defend and all you heard/saw was how washed up and garbage he is. If i was a player (besides getting thrown a boat load of cash) one of my main things would be the fan base. I wonder how many free agents we lose out on because of the sh!tty fan base we have.

  4. BigStinky Says:

If it wasn’t for Grimes and those 2 plays we would have lost the game and the Bucs would be 1-4 right now. He deserved a game ball for sure. Still cannot believe we won that game, +4 TO difference and ALMOST still lost.

  5. Brian Says:

If you were actually a player AC I can assure you one of your main things would NOT be the fan base.

  6. unbelievable Says:

Grimes has definitely had some poor play at times, but he stepped it up big Monday night. I think fans get frustrated when he falls down- multiple times- in the same game, leading to big plays and touchdowns.

If he can continue to play like he did Monday night, we will be okay.

  7. unbelievable Says:

    Also, great pic of Miko…

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I may not agree with Miko on some things, but she is 100% right when it comes to how we treat our players. People are in the stands booing Grimes after he gets scored on with a slant pass from the 2 yard line, as if that doesn’t happen to every other CB in the league. They seem to forget all the pass breakups he’s had. Corners get beat. Good ones don’t get beat too often. Overall, Grimes has been pretty good all season – 100% better than anyone we had last year. To criticize him is stupid, and I don’t blame her one bit for lashing out at those who boo her husband. Imagine if it was your family member getting booed. Wouldn’t you get pissed off too? Especially if it’s not justified.

  9. Miko Says:

    Huh?…brent always balling…

  10. Architek Says:

I actually enjoy watching his technique. He’s not the tallest but he’s always in place and some things like physics you can’t get around because he can get shielded by bigger WRs but he’s still opportunistic and fast. By the end of the season he will have about 4-5 picks.

  11. jwash3 Says:

Brent has given up a momentum altering TD in every game prior to the panthers game. And you can tell it’s something teams are seeing on film because the first 3 games he was attacked the same way on the goaline (3rd time resulted in DPI IIRC). He’s earned his fair share of criticism just like most everyone else on the team.

  12. Chris Says:

Because no one boos cbs falling down and the defense getting beat like a drum every week. Yeesh, we don’t have to give atta boys get em next time. They’re not our kids. They’re part of a franchise that has sucked for 99% of its history. If you don’t know this and aren’t forewarned ahead of time, oh well. Ms Grimes should check out our history of losing before allowing her guy to sign.

  13. rrsrq Says:

Grimes playing with a tender hammy, what about LVD, didn’t he hurt his shoulder in the ATL game, he hasn’t been the same but likely wont complain due to all the other injuries

  14. Newbucsfan2 Says:

Love the pic! Brent saved the day! I’d give him two balls, one for him and one for miko! He’s fortunate to have a wife who always watches his back; the NFL is a tough business!

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Wanted the Bucs to grab Brent Grimes when he left Atlanta after the 2012 season, but alas Miami won out, and he did great down there. And he’s been solid here (except for 1 game). He’s a good ‘bridge player’ but he’s not the long-term answer that the Bucs desperately need. Our secondary overall is too slow and too vertically-challenged … we need taller, faster corners to cover the likes of Olsen, Benjamin, Funchess, etc (all 6’5″ or taller). Of course there’s an even greater need for 2 speedy safeties who love knocking the snot out of people, but we won’t go there.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Grimes can attribute some of his success to VH3 because QBs seem to target Grimes more.
He has been helpful and I’m looking for more.

  17. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Chris,

It’s not his fault the team has been bad for so long. It’s an ignorance on the part of the fan base that needs to change. Stop making excuses for stupidity.

  18. Brent bull/buc Says:

Grimes is decent but 33. I think we gotta use a #1-2 pick on another cb next year. Hopefully we can get another year outta grimes. Beemer – see us you suck.

  19. mike10 Says:

I’ll say he has played OK this year. Too many times this year has he been burned.

  20. Brent bull/buc Says:

    Verner not beemer

  21. AC Says:

@brian lol a buc fan who thinks they know it ALL! please tell me how you can tell what is in the mind of someone you never met before? There are real football players who really love the game not just the fame and the money. I’m sure plenty of guys weigh the pros and cons of a fan base when it comes to making a decision on who they want to play for in free agency

  22. BigMacAttack Says:

    Go Miko!!!

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

With all due respect, Cam Newton makes faster reads, and has a much more powerful arm then Anderson. He might have made that throw that Grimes intercepted. Or ran the ball in himself.
But we had plenty of our starters hurt too, and I am glad Grimes picked that ball.
Another score by Carolina at that point in the game would have been Fatal.
    Grimes saved our season!

  24. Dave Says:

Even shut down corners get beat, or make a bad jump or read. As great as run the barber was, he was beat a lot. The only way a secondary ever looks completely Dominic is with a pass rush.

  25. Dave Says:

    Chris…
I do not care if Cam is there or not. The bucs are down to a 2nd string Dt and a 3rd string de and 2 walk ons as far as depth on the D line.
Not to mention a third string rb ( who is a better runner than Simms)

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Smith needs to put Banks in there. He’s taller from what I’ve read on here than most of our DBs. He also knows how to play. Conte is not getting the job done. Bench him. Let others try, Smitty. You didn’t cut them for a reason. Grimes sure didn’t play like he’s 33; 23 y. o. is more like it.

  27. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Man if the rest of the NFL is aware of our fan base I understand exactly why we have to overpay for FA’s. Who would want to come to his hell hole of fandom.

Man I am a Buc’s fan…but after this tough start I can’t honestly say I’m a fan of Buc fans. Go ahead and rip me.

Lightning fans are sooo much more patient and understand the game better.

  28. wesley Says:

Looking at Brent’s wife’s twitter OMG, what a horrible, self centered, narcissistic excuse of a human being. How could he not be embarrassed of her? Just the fact that he is married to her he’s lost some respect.

  29. Turd Koetter Says:

    She a nasty…

    Cut
    Up
    Not
    Toasted

    Word?

  30. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Hey Turd great first name that describes you well.

One thing you won’t have to worry about is your wife running her mouth in praise of you…she is probably disgusted with the smell.

Are you aware of how insulting that word is to woman? Nah it’s not like you care.

  31. Gigglypuff Says:

Miko savaged bucs fans she needs to take the colors off and jist support her husband. Other wise its just patronizing

  32. Q Says:

In the words of Miko ._..Be carefull what you wish for! She really has it in for Ir a kaffman also. Joe she said f@ ^k the tampa media that would include you bud.

  33. James Walker Says:

Most Tampa fans probably wonder why #55, #99, #40, #47, and #20 are not on the field.

  34. GhostofSchiano Says:

I think the guy has played his arse off for us.

  35. CalBucsFan Says:

@OrlBucFan I’m with you on Banks, I don’t get why he’s not getting in on the defensive rotations. Is he that bad? I thought he showed a lot of promise his rookie year and yet it’s a new coaching regime now and he still rides the bench.

    What’s up with that Joe?
