Kwon Possessed

It’s so easy to forget Kwon Alexander turned 22 years old last month.

It’s also easy to forget he was a fourth-round draft pick.

Stats sometimes lie, but not today.

Kwon had 15 solo tackles — FIFTEEN! In that mix was two tackles for a loss, two quarterback hits and a sack. Chris Conte was second on the Bucs with seven solo tackles.

Yeah, Kwon screwed up in coverage over the middle against Julio Jones, somehow turning away from the Pro Bowler coming right toward him, but it was nearly all stellar outside of that.

Kwon was all over the place, his first game back following his four-game suspension to close 2015.

Last week, Kwon talked to Joe about how this wasn’t just another game for him — because he loves playing in Atlanta so much, near his hometown in Alabama.

What’s exciting here is that Kwon was so comfortable in a brand new defense, and he’s calling the plays with Mike Smith in his helmet. Huge responsibility on the youngster and he was completely up for the task.

“Beasting,” as Robert Ayers likes to call it.

Damn, that Jason Licht grand slam in the draft last year keeps on giving.

And I can’t remember who…I think it was Devonta…that just got smashed with a Kwon hit. One of those ooh and ah moments in the Dome.

Dude may not be large but sometimes he hits like Ray Lewis.

Kwon still has some work to do in the passing game, but there is no denying his knack for making big plays. Wouldn’t trade him for anything.
And it appeared Mike Smith was playing alot of cover three, two etc. Most notably on the pass Julio dropped when hit by McDougald. But Smith kept it going. Lot’s of blitzing. I think we will get more and more pressure as the year goes on. All of those rollouts and play action worked to keep Ryan upright. Credit to them. But credit to us too. Before tbe game, if you had told me Matt Ryan would throw for 300+ yards with no turnovers, I would never imagine us winning that. But we did.

Heard an interview with Devante Freeman earlier this week, when asked about Kwon, he said he might run out of bounds, because he is a hitter
