Koetter’s Scouting Report On Jacquizz Rodgers

Weapon added

The Bucs head coach was talking about his newest weapon today.

Of course, for Dirk Koetter, that new weapon is an old weapon, former Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers, who signed with the Bucs yesterday. Rodgers, 26, played for Koetter in Atlanta and had significant success, from 2012 through 2014.

Last year, Rodgers floundered with the Bears and was released in September.

“Really good zone runner, really good inside runner,” Koetter said of Rodgers. “Even though he’s a smaller-in-stature guy in height, he’s a really good receiver out of the backfield. I think he had 50-something catches for [Atlanta] one year. And he’s an excellent special teams player. So he’s going to make our team better.”

In fact, Rodgers twice caught 50-plus balls under Koetter, in 2012 and 2013.

This afternoon in the Buccaneers’ locker room, Rodgers, a 5-6 fire hydrant of a man, said he was busy figuring out what elements of Koetter’s offense he remembers — and forgot.

Soft-spoken Rodgers also seemed very impressed by the energy and vibe of the Bucs’ locker room.

Can not have to much depth. I like this signing.

  2. celly Says:

I wonder if this move will send Barber back to the practice squad, especially if (when) we sign Kroy.

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

Every bit of talent helps, I see him catching the ball already.

  4. Gilhealy Says:

@celly, it already did. Barber was sent to the PS yesterday.

  5. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

Nice pickup… really a DM / CS hybrid. Can catch passes, squeeze through small spaces between linemen. Should either go down Jacquizz much better backup than Barber. Still feeling for Mike James tho

  6. Jason Says:

I wonder how this will affect Sims’ playtime, if at all, since they seem to have similar skill sets

  7. Red86 Says:

Sims and Quizz in the backfield in the shotgun set, while doing hurry up? Good luck linebackers and safeties with stopping these two.

  8. Dave Says:

As long as they give the ball to Martin 18+ times and get Simms 12 touches.

  9. LocalJoker Says:

No Gilhealy. Barber has not been cut. You can’t send a player to the PS. He must be cut, go thru waivers, then he can accept an offer to join the PS. That did not happen!

If Coach DK says/does it, I believe it. Glad they’re hanging on to Barber, too. He’s a powerful RB from what I saw in the preseason. He just needs to get some NFL seasoning. Go Bucs!!!

Localjoker has way too much time on his hands. Don’t want to party with that buzz-kill. I bet you’re a hit with your fairy tale (fantasy) football buddies.

  12. NoDak Pirate Says:

I fell in love with him his rookie year and had him stashed on my fastest bench all year. It didn’t work as planned.

Can’t wait till Pablo gives the arc-report on Hacquizz..

Red86, hope we see what you described. Simply awesome.

Last year this was the Chicago Bear retirement home, now it’s becoming the Falcon retirment home lol, especially if Kroy signs. I’m not hatin, I just think it’s funny, but I’m down for water makes our team better weither it’s a former Falcon or not.
