Bucs-Browns Joint Practice Notes & Nuggets

August 23rd, 2016

JameisBrowns

The bumbling Browns are in town for two days of practice with your mighty Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading up to Friday night’s preseason game in Tampa. This morning’s first joint practice went from 9:45 to 11:45 on the scorching fields of One Buc Palace.

Joe’s got loads of need-to-know.

*Fans so desperate for action, they’re even cheering warm-up drills.

*This may be hottest practice of training camp. Really roasting out here and no air moving. Bucs and Browns spend extra long time stretching and doing nothing kind of drills. Dirk Koetter said that this deep into training camp the joint practice workload would be dialed back a bit. He wasn’t kidding.

*Too many “Lets’ go Browns!” chants.

*It’s a run period, Bucs offense is running and Browns defense knows what’s coming. Vice versa with Browns offense and Bucs defense on a far field (please keep in mind as you read these notes that Joe cannot see everything going on everywhere. That would be impossible without a large team of Joes.

*1-on-1 drills receivers versus cornerbacks: America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, complete to Bernard Reedy. Deep! Cornerback Charles Gaines covering.

*Another deep ball. Jameis to Russell Shepard.

*Incomplete. Vincent Jackson slips on a short route from Mike Glennon.

*Jameis hits the Stampeder in numbers on a down and out and it is a catch.

*Rudy Humphries does a double move to right and leaves Gaines’ jock on the field. Complete! Crowd roars.

*11-on-11:  Charles Sims runs left and for about 3 yards. No tackling to the ground today, but both teams are in full pads and hitting.

*Play-action roll right by Jameis hits V-Jax for 12 yards.

*Sims runs to daylight on left side of line, about 6 yards.

*Mike Jameis stuffed on a run.

*Peyton Barber on pitch out to right clobbered by Browns LB. Four-yard loss.

*Glennon over middle in space for Rudy Humphries, 12 yards and a first down.

*HOLDING! A bad one by Gosder Cherilus, full fist of jersey.

*On far field, a Josh McCown completion, about nine yards to receiver in front of Johnthan Banks. Unsure if McCown is crying.

*It’s already noticeable, but the Bucs offense looks pretty flat and low energy. Dirk Koetter agreed wholeheartedly after practice.

*Offensive linemen engage in 1-on-1 against Browns D-linemen.

*Donovan Smith has no trouble stoning Armonty Bryant, who came back to beat Gosder Cherilus.

*Kevin Pamphile manhandles Xavier Cooper twice.

*Evan Smith loses twice in a row to Danny Shelton. Center battle is equalizes. Joe Hawley loses twice consecutively to Jamie Meder. Second one also was a hold by Hawley.

*11-on-11 returns: Josh McCown drops a snap in shotgun and then picks up the ball and fires way wide left to the sidelines and out of bounds. Joe’s seen that before.

*Jameis would have been sacked on an all out blitz.

*OFFSIDES! But it’s on the Browns.

*Deep slant. Jameis to Mike Evans, who is hit right in hands by “inaccurate” Jameis. Major chemistry with those two today.

*BLITZ! Browns send seven and Jameis throws incomplete to Cameron Brate. Seemed like Brate was interfered with. No flag.

*Couple of loud Browns fans in attendance.

*Mike Glennon goes deep for the Stampeder along left sideline. The Stampeder beats his man but gets flattened by a Browns corner to avoid a TD. Pass interference, defense.

*Run DMC has players bouncing.

*Stampeder is getting a lot of reps and targets this morning.

*Glennon finds the Stampeder darting through Browns secondary on 7-on-7 drills. Yes, he caught it.

*For some reason, the band “Cake” doesn’t seem appropriate for an NFL practice.

*To use Robert Ayers’ favorite verb, Clinton McDonald is beasting interior Browns linemen.

*Jameis under a huge rush has ball tipped. No excuses for a loud Bucs fan. “CATCH THE BALL!!!”

**Next up, Roberto Aguayo’s disastrous 3-for-6 showing on field goals. Full story and team reaction on the JoeBucsFan.com home page. Gotta be honest, Kyle Brindza didn’t look this bad. Aguayo is missing chip shots with minimal rush. Kid is missing kicks right and left.

*Twisted Sister fills the air after Aguayo’s godawful appearance.

*Joe sees RGIII with nobody to throw to twice during 7-on-7 drills. Bucs defense looks lively.

*Hargreaves next with a diving INTERCEPTION of RGIII. He had three today. Full story on JoeBucsFan.com home page.

*Uh, oh. Browns linebacker Dominique Alexander with an INTERCEPTION of Mike Glennon. Bad throw, about 10 yards off line of scrimmage.

*Camp meat alert! Bad drop by Bucs wide receiver Andre Davis. Bucs fans yells, “Are you serious?” and Davis looks up.

*Third team work continues and rookie Danny Vitale catches a pass over the middle from No. 3 QB Ryan Griffin. Crowd loves them some Vitale.

*Back-to-back completions in zone coverage from Jameis to Vincent Jackson and Brate. Nicely thrown to receivers nestled in the right spots.

*Jameis 15 yards to V-Jax followed by the play of the day! Mike Evans is covered by Joe Haden on the right side. Haden is with Evans, but Evans hits another gear on his outside break. Safety help comes and Jameis drops a 40 yard bomb in Evans’ fingertips in stride. Complete! Wow.

*Josh McCown counters with a 10-yard connection to wide receiver Ed Eagan in front of Hey Jude Adjei-Barimah.

*Browns throw the house at Jameis. Danny Vitale gets eaten up on pass blocking Browns linebacker Demario Davis.

*INTERCEPTION! This time it’s a four-man rush. Jameis pass is tipped by Davis and picked by Joe Haden.

*Jameis responds with a 10-yard completion to Humphries.

*RGIII smoothly rolls right and throws for a first down.

*Couple of nice connections between Glennon and Brandon Myers, who really has picked up his play.

*Play-action, short throw to Vitale from Glennon.

*Jameis with two checkdowns to Vitale and Sims.

*One-hand grab by Michael James on a pass behind him from Glennon. Nice pin to the hip.

*Glennon hits Kenny Bell in hands along left sideline, drop. To be fair, appeared ball may have been grazed by Browns CB in tight coverage, and it was likely thrown overly hard by Glennon in short space.

Great stuff as always, Joe! Thank you.

  2. mike n Says:

Great picture of Jameis telling Dirk we are going for 2 all year.
Jameis 2 Evans may be lethal this year! Stay healthy everybody.

  3. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Dontae Dye is not a “Stampeder.” He is not a glorified CFLer. He’s an NFL player who I’m sure has worked his tail off to get there.

If you are in the NFL then you are an NFL player not a CFL player. Show some respect

  4. LovieBall Says:

In what way of the offense flat? Sounded pretty good to me.

  5. DB55 Says:

Jameis drops a 40 yard bomb in Evans’ fingertips in stride. Complete! Wow

Great pass! Put the ball out in front so ME could extend and catch.

  6. 813bucboi Says:

    @joe great notes….

damn dre…lets go…you got to make every catch….

VHG had 3 picks today…damn!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  7. 813bucboi Says:

the offense coming out flat seems to be a reoccurring theme…hope they get that fixed by week1….GO BUCS!!!

  8. D-Rome Says:

Aguayo’s woes are now a national story on ESPN.

[Joe wrote about this about seven hours ago. Video was from yesterday. — Joe]

  9. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Danny Vitale gets eaten up on pass blocking Browns linebacker Demario Davis.” Not exactly what fans want to hear about one of our TEs pass-blocking for Jameis. Is this something new Joe or has it been going on for awhile?

  10. SCBucsFan Says:

I agree. Stop with the Stampeder talk. Dye will make the roster as a returner if nothing else.

  11. Kobe Faker Says:

Is RG3 a starter in the NFL?

Josh Gordon do anything? Can we get him for a 4th rounder?

  12. SOEbuc Says:

Lots of Browns cheers? I guess all those Ohio hillbillies are dumber than I thought. Was there enough room at OBP for them to park their trailers?

  13. Joe Says:

    Lots of Browns cheers?

Not “lots.” Couple of loud fans. “Loud” does not equate “lots.”

  14. SOEbuc Says:

Also dont know about the Stampeder reference Joe. Especially not for Dye.

  15. Joe Says:

If you are in the NFL then you are an NFL player not a CFL player. Show some respect

As soon as the Stampeder starts to catch the ball consistently. Respect is earned, not granted.

Plumbers work hard too. I don’t see anyone advocating they get a gift job in the NFL. This is the NFL, not Pop Warner. Just because a guy “works hard” doesn’t mean who should start x-amount of games and get a participation trophy after the season.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    Poor Aguayo.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

    @buc1987…no…poor bucs fans…..GO BUCS!!!

  18. Dave Says:

If anyone belongs in the CFL its clearly Aguayo or Ryan Griffin

  19. BennyBucs Says:

Mark my words ,not taking that SAFETY , NEAL, that the falcons drafted, with that 2nd rounder will come back to haunt us in absolutely the worst way

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Oh my bad Joe. “Loud” cheers. They were probably firing their shotguns off, right? YEEEHAW!!!

  21. BucinJAX Says:

Loud cheers Maybe those were just barks from their “dog pound”.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Im starting to question Koetter. After watching all his interviews on Buccaneers.com it sounds like he has never stepped foot on the defensive side of the practice field. Thats not what I think of as a head coach. He also gets asked a lot of questions about certain players and planning on what the situation is and goes on to say “You’ll have to ask Jason about that.” He needs to put in his two cents also cus I’m sure as hell Jason Licht is not gonna bring in a better kicker to win the starting role even if may be necessary at this time. Maybe I’m wrong about everything but it’s just giving me the pre-regular season rookie head coach jitters

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Johnny Football is not even a Stampeder…….remember, Kevin Pamphile was “milk carton”…..now he’s “startin'”
Yes, but Pamphile was a only milk carton because he was not seen. The Stampeder earned his nickname directly because of all we’ve seen of him. Big difference.-Joe

  24. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Plumbers work hard too. I don’t see anyone advocating they get a gift job in the NFL. This is the NFL, not Pop Warner. Just because a guy “works hard” doesn’t mean who should start x-amount of games and get a participation trophy after the season.

I didn’t say that Dye should be starting. I said that he is in the NFL not the CFL. Drawing a paycheck and being part of an NFL roster isn’t a “participation trophy,” it’s the result of a lifetime of hard work. Criticize guys all that you want for their performance, but I just feel like if a guy is in the NFL then the least we can do is refer to him as an NFL player

  25. K2 Says:

Agree, at least a little respect is due.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    CreamsicleBananaHammock

I guess a Stampeder is a step above a future Insurance Adjuster, UPS driver, Hooters Cook or Sports Blog Writer……

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“On far field, a Josh McCown completion…”

Holy crap. I forgot it was a joint practice…that statement scared the heck out of me. I thought I dreamed the drafting of Jameis or went back in time!

btw, who is the Mike Jameis who got stuffed while running?

  28. K2 Says:

Joe, you have the best Bucs coverage…and I want you to know that I appreciate it greatly. However, I do think sometimes your a little rough on the guys. Wes Welker was also camp meat and got no respect when he was with the Bucs…he was just another body…right?
Welker was with the Bucs? This is news to Joe. –Joe

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Joe Says
“As soon as the Stampeder starts to catch the ball consistently. Respect is earned, not granted.”

    Woot!

That sound’s suspiciously like “Props when props are earned!”

    😉

  30. Bird Says:

Classic. Joe sarcastically calls Jameis “inaccurate” because people have commented on his slow starts and being inaccurate recently. Classic joe. He rips on everyone but if you mention Jameis the claws are coming out. Jameis hasn’t looked good. It’s obvious. Numerous analysts have commented on this. But. Not in joes eyes cause Jameis is so “pretty”. Remember if the offense stumbles at different times in the year, it will be koetter’ s fault. Never Jameis. He is freaking superman. He doesn’t make mistakes cause he is America s quarterback.
(This is where joe will chime in and act like a child and say it’s his website and he can write what he wants). What a joke!
Actually, this is where Joe chimes in with facts. Here’s a link to Joe detailing how Jameis’ start against the Jaguars was “hot garbage.” https://www.joebucsfan.com/2016/08/off-night-buccaneers-blog/
Thanks for the easy opportunity to expose your lies.–Joe

  31. Bird Says:

Classic joe here sports fans. Got to get last word on my lies? How old are you? He finds one article Where it states he played bad. One article? Joe wrote that on Saturday night. There are others. Of course, Joe is not going to permit you to lie about Joe. You can go do that on other websites. Joe is not about to stand for a credibility attack based on pure BS. What that has to do with age, Joe is unsure. Joe doesn’t come to your place of business and hurl baloney.–Joe

But comments he loves Jameis. Wow. I know that had to hurt joe. Sacriligeous almost. I’m sure you went to church that week asking for forgiveness for saying one bad thing about jesus. I mean Jameis

  32. David Long Says:

Dye is a stampeder and Winston is americas QB only in the mind of sloppy Joe. lol.

  33. JAB83 Says:

Sir or ma’am. It’s just not permitted to make stuff up about Joe. If you feel this way, then take your many screen names and head to Buccaneers.com or elsewhere. C’mon.

  34. Mike Johnson Says:

Kenny Bell…drop. Aguayo….miss again. That’s ok you two. I can see both of you clearly thru my..Church’s Chicken Drive thru window chanting, Would you like the white or dark meat special today sir!!

  35. Kevin Says:

I feel like you could bring pete caroll, russel wilson and the entire seahawks staff and roster, put them in buvs uniforms, have them.practice in tampa and.play at ray jay, and they would suck. Its like it is impossible to havea good team here. We will see on friday. If they look even close to the same as the forst two games, all bets will be off!

  36. SB with Jameis Says:

Thanks as always for the notes Joe.

  37. JAB83 Says:

Sir, again, you don’t get to make up stuff about Joe. –Joe

  38. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I was about to say the same thing JAB83. Bird I’ve never seen you up here before this preseason so how is it you think you know Joe? He knows what’s what about the Bucs and he doesn’t candy coat things. As much as he blows the trumpet for Jameis he let’s it be known when he fouls up. That one article is where he says it like it is that Jameis play Saturday night was hot stinking garbage . Don’t you know he threw for 77% against the Igglets? So how inaccurate is he really?

You come up here throwing shade on Joes own site. How foolish is that? This is America so you have the right to venture to some other site to your delicate likings. So fly fly fly away lil birdie!

  39. grafikdetail Says:

    RUN DMC!!!!

  40. Joe Says:

    DavidBigBucsFan99:

    Thank you.

  41. Owlykat Says:

Bell is a Bust again. We need to bring in another kicker to compete with Aguayo. We have two punters competing. Aguayo is no sacred cow. He needs to be given equal treatment. If Koetter is serious about putting our best players in the game based on production no matter where the player is drafted, he better have another kicker to put in. Glad Jameis did not start slow today so it proves when he is not over hyped up emotionally he can start hot. Maybe the Bucs need to hire a sports psychiatrist to help our players overcome mental blocks. That is how college hockey players beat a veteran pro Russian Team in the Miracle on Ice in the Winter Olympics.

  42. Pete Mitchell Says:

Damn dude relax… Joe BUCS Fan is just a couple of sports dudes with some media background trying to make a buck by bringing us BUCS news with some personality sprinkled throughout. The fact that this outlet is not, and has never claimed to be, a traditional buttoned down media outlet is part of the appeal as far as I’m concerned. Of course the Joes bring a little bias… THEY ARE BUCS FANS (hence the name). If you can’t fathom why a BUCS fan would relay BUCS information with general excitement regarding America’s Quarterback, one Jameis Winston, then this ain’t the place for you. In fact I’m relatively sure there is an online forum to discuss all thing Josh McCown based somewhere in Ohio, you may even be able to catch up on all the Big 10 news in order to keep up with the Lovable loser and indefensible scarlet savior Greg Schiano.

  43. JAB83 Says:

And yeah thenk you David… At least someone saw my post before yall “pulled” it…. You Joes.really are something… Wounder if its and coincidence that the Bucs havent won sense your site came online… Nope… Negative breads negative results…

  44. tmaxcon Says:

    JAB83

Blaming bucs loses on a freaking blog… dude you must be the dumbest poster ever…. its funny how many of the old jameis basher came out of the closet after a meaningless slow start in a pre season game. Losers like you that think everything is positive live is this nonexistent utophia with hugs and trophys for everyone make me sick…. sorry your little feelings got hurt….. way to many pansy asses on this site lately…

  45. Joe Says:

And yeah thenk you David… At least someone saw my post before yall “pulled” it…. You Joes.really are something… Wounder if its and coincidence that the Bucs havent won sense your site came online… Nope… Negative breads negative results…

    Guessing you meant “breeds?”

  46. ChanEpic Says:

Joe(s) I wish I could kiss you! AWESOME stuff. And if you ever need volunteers to help cover practices next season, I’d KILL to help.

  47. BucNick Says:

Damn Joe hit some nerves today!!!! I love it. Keep doing what you’re doing Joe, the vast majority of us appreciate it and look forward to it day after day.

    GO BUCS
