The GM Speaks

Grab your Stars and Stripes.

Bucs general manager Jason Licht gave a State of the Union address today on WDAE-AM 620.

Among many subjects touched upon, Licht told host Steve Duemig that America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, is now leading a team bursting with confidence that is “through the roof.” It’s an “awesome locker room,” said Licht, who has worked for several playoff teams.

Regarding Jameis’ command, the GM said, “”You can’t find a player on our team that doesn’t respect the heck out of him.”

Powerful stuff from Licht, when it comes to the foundation of the Bucs anchored by the franchise quarterback.

Bucs now need to translate that ‘through the roof confidence’ into wins. Jameis knows that all the great QBs throughout NFL history have one thing in common: they win.

    All Hail the Messiah!

  3. DB55 Says:

Rejoice! For the kingdom of Jameis is here.

“I want a bunch of guys that are going to play hard-nosed, emotional football.” – Dirk Koetter

Winning does lift the spirit and put a spring in your step. I’m ready for a spirited spring into relevancy. Licht is talking just that. Break up the Bucs chatter building from all this uplifting stuff.

Exactly DR and nobody is more obsessed with greatness and becoming great than #3. I wouldn’t bet against him. Especially now that he has a good coach and GM.

  6. Buccaneers Says:

StPete-I wont bet against Jamies either. But I do think you can pull the reigns on saying that he now has a good HC.

Honestly think you can say the same for the GM. While he has made some good moves he has had his share of bad ones. If some of the offseason moves he made this year bust the Licht Love will quickly fade.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

@StPetebucsfan … “I wouldn’t bet against him. ” Me neither. The pieces are coming together nicely. I can see the same relationship growing between Jameis and Coach Koetter that exists between Brady & Belichek, Brees & Payton, etc. They feed off each other, and that translates into wins.

We are gonna get off to a better start than most think, and it is gonna snowball from there!! No disrespect intended Buccfan37, but i really believe we are gonna spring higher than relevancy this year. And my belief comes from the defensive coaches we have added because I believe they will “coach ’em up” far better than we have seen in recent years. One example, Verner didn’t just go from Pro Bowler to suck and ride the bench. That is coaching and scheme. Unlike most rookie HCs, Dirk has SO much experience working with some amazing HCs, so he has seen how to do it and how not to do it (Lovie). I have NO doubt that this is his time and his moment, and if we don’t have playoff-implicating games the last 2 weeks, I feel the season is a failure (assuming generally good team health). Go Bucs!!

  9. Kevin Says:

I agree feel.good, our new dline coach and dbs will get the most credit in my book if this defense is that much improved.

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

If we can survive those first 5 games, I think we have a shot to have a pretty good season. Unfortunately, we can be a much better team than last year and still be 1-4. I absolutely hate the way our schedule starts. I couldn’t think of a much more difficult way to start a season.

  11. DallasBuc Says:

If we are truly an improved team under Koetter then we should finally be competitive in these games, even the dreaded first five which I don’t see as that arduous. Those are good football teams but we should be too and there are no excuses. I expect us to be competitive and if we are then anything is possible.
Can’t wait to put my eyes on the product this season.

    It’s all about Jaaaaaameis!
