Noah Spence “Standing Up”

Discusses defenses.

Last month, when Bucs linebackers coach Mark Duffner talked to the local fourth estate, he was asked about Noah Spence possibly playing outside linebacker.

Duffner did not rule out that possibility for the rookie defensive end. So that led to speculation the Bucs may run their share of 34 defensive fronts, a formation defensive coordinator Mike Smith stated he may use from time to time while clearly emphasizing the Bucs will run a base 43.

Well, the cat is out of the bag now.

Yesterday, Spence made a rare visit to the media workroom at One Buc Palace — Joe can’t remember the last time a player made such an appearance after a practice. Spence, in a few short words, answered a question about where he’s working in practice.

“Right defensive end,” Spence said, and “a couple of 30 packages where I am standing up and walking around.”

So, Duffner wasn’t joking. Will Bucs fans, in certain packages, see Spence blitzing from the right side from a linebacker position and blasting a quarterback?

Seems to be a plan in the works.

Wow!!! A diversified defense!!!! Can’t wait for to see the beginning of it this year!!!! It will be so fun to watch as opposed to the outdated, passive scheme that laid down against opponents the last 2 years (against scrub and backups mostly)!!!!!

That could be scary in addition to having LVD & Kwon flying around….

    @Tampabaybucfan

Agreed!!!! But when they send for a LVD54 or KA58 on a blitz and they run a stunt or drop a DL into coverage, will the local media and some fans go after the coaches like they did Coach Schaino????

Would depend on which DL is dropped back.

The Bucs have a couple of DLs who are as fast & quick as LB’s who could do a credible job—Smith, Howard and Spence.

Not sure Schiano had any. He liked those big, plodding guys.

Young boys like Ghingis Kwon,Spawn and VH3 about to bring that swag back to this Defesne.

Real talk none of us have ever seen a Buccs squad like the one we are all about to see. Someone said “Greatest Show on Grass” a few weeks ago. I’m in agreement.

I’m all about forward thinking. I’m not of the mind I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m about breaking down the talent in my mind. I’m tellin y’all we about to be baddest team in the entire league. Me and E are serious when we say Championship in 2016.

Is that a “Nirvana” t-shirt? Kid knows good music, and that translates into good foosball.

  9. Fsuking Says:

He’s a versatile player in a versatile defense. He’s gonna play everywhere

  10. MadMax Says:

Smith and Koetter are going to keep offenses guessing. I love it!

Von Miller 2.0 in that! Ya’ll know it!

  11. BigPoppaBuc Says:

LVD may very well be our sack leader this season. I am so anxious to see this defense in action.

I’m guessing he might try the no name defense where no one lines up everyone just stands around the LOS until the ball is snapped ala Green Bay n Baltimore.

D@mn DB55 there you go again with that crystal ball. You on it, always right about something. I’m scared of you.

I have but one question: Is it football season yet?!!!!!!!

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Media went after Schiano because of the end game kneel thing.

  15. Kevin Says:

Lovie Smith is rolling his eyes saying pfft…..that will never work!

    LOL!!!

  16. Trubucfan22 Says:

Schiano was an effing hack. Stop referencing him. He deserved every bit of criticism.

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

I did not hear the media outrage when 2 NFL teams rushed the kneel down this year!!! Must be a Bucs conspiracy!!!

  18. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Can u imagine Howard Jones on one side and Spence coming from the other?? Nice combo if we choose to switch it up to the 3-4. And Ho Jo fits that mold very well with his size and speed. I think that’s a more natural position for him than DE. Unless he can put a little weight on. Hes our fastest DL we got, so hopefully coach Smith utilizeso that speed for us. Wich I sure he will. ▪○■GO BUC$■○▪

I’ve read that Spence has some DAWG in him and edge like Kwon and VH3. Glad this D is getting some swag back. They’ll need it to stay up with Winston and company. Boring Bucs no more!

  20. mike10 Says:

Mark, smells a bit like teen spirit?

I like the idea of him standing up. Still wondering why a stronger push wasn’t made for Mario Williams if there’s going to be a balance of 34

  21. USFBUC Says:

This was easy to see coming, Spence does not have that prototype DE big body. I think we will see him standing more often than in a three point stance.

When playing the run SPAWN will be what’s that word the RealBigot uses exposed…..yea that’s it exposed!
