Koetter Has Strong Words About Drafting Defense

April 28th, 2016

KoetterfrownThe Bucs’ head coach may have just tipped Tampa Bay’s draft hand.

Dirk Koetter, speaking at One Buc Palace, after the selection of Gators cornerback Vernon Hargreaves in the first round, said the Bucs need to stock up on defensive players and the last two years of offensive drafts have set the table.

Joe isn’t typing up the exact quote here yet, but Koetter’s body language, as well as his words, were very clear: The Bucs absolutely have to load up on defense.

Yes, the Bucs still need an edge rusher and Joe would love to see them snag manbeast defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah out of Oklahoma State, maybe even after a trade up tonight. But the Bucs still need help at wide receiver.

Louis Murphy’s stunning story today about him and Adrian Peterson and being ready for training camp was great, but it’s still a real long shot.

    Emmanuel Ogbah next ?
    Agree

  2. Walter Says:

    Should’ve gone with Rankins

  3. Destinjohnny Says:

Rankins should have been the pick
Then find a way to get spence
Then I could play db for the pewter

Agreed Joe. Let’s patch up that D line but never forget what it looks like when 1 of our 2 WRs (Bell is still a ?) is wearing a hat instead of a helm. A true #3 has to be on the board for day 2.

    Rankins can’t cover.

  6. Joey T Says:

Walter take your negative ass somewhere else. Trust that someone who gets paid to evaluate talent knows more than you do.

Let’s package Glennon with that 4th…get Denver on the hot to move back up into the 1st and grab a big nasty for the DL. Come on Licht…make the deal. Donald Trump approves this message.

  8. PabloBack Says:

Pablo think aogbah or Spence in 2nd RD

  9. K2 Says:

I like Rankins as well…but I think the team believes that they will still get quality d-line later in the draft. However, the fall off at corner was greater. Still think they will target a DE and tackle

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

WE missed on Rankins and probably Spence. As Bucs fans will soon see..as they saw with Donald..Rankins is the real deal. YOU..cannot replace a high motor. Rankins has that. Bucs fans have probably forgotten that. BEATDOWn Aaron Donald gave our Offense in there win over us this past season. The guy was like a stinging bee. He was..all over us. Rankins has that motor also. And we will face him come Saints time. Jameis can pass for 500 yrds. But you’d better get a pass rush…and soon!

  11. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Rankins is not Aaron Donald, there isn’t an Aaron Donald in every draft… Remember Brian Price? This guy’s career could go in many trajectories and hasn’t played a single snap, and yet he is an all pro lock? Trust your GM who has earned it and get on board with our new buc!

So we didn’t get your guy mike? I’ve been told the Skyway looks good this time of night. We got a tactician of a cb in hargreaves, best feet in the draft for cb. 40 yard time was basically same as Ezekiel Elliot so I don’t think he’s slow. Plus we got a 4th for a guy we would’ve taken anyway.

Lets see how the rest of this plays out, not many DEs taken yet so I’m optimistic we can get a very good one. If we can pull that off I think it makes the hargreaves pick that much smarter.

I can live with Spence, Ogbah or Dodd at DE but I am very concerned they don’t see the huge need at WR. I would move back up into the 2nd for Shepard or Boyd.
