Emmanuel Ogbah And The Bucs

Oklahoma State manbeast Emmanuel Ogbah is a top-rated edge rusher.

Oklahoma State manbeast Emmanuel Ogbah is a top-rated edge rusher.

Joe firmly believes at least two defensive ends will be taken in next month’s draft by the time the Bucs are on the clock at No. 9. That is why Joe pays attention to who folks believe is the third-best defensive end in the draft.

That’s leads Joe to Nathan Forster of the respected Football Outsiders insiders. Typing for BSPN, Forster believes the third-best edge rusher available is Oklahoma State’s Emmanuel Ogbah.

3. Emmanuel Ogbah, Oklahoma State
Projection: 22.9 sacks through Year 5
Scouts Inc.: No. 45 overall
Similar historical prospects: Adalius Thomas, Justin Houston

Ogbah is a good all-around prospect, and he would be SackSEER’s favorite player in this draft if it did not adjust for projected draft position. Ogbah had consistently good production, recording double-digit sacks as both a sophomore and a junior. He also added nine passes defensed in his three-year college career, giving him an above-average passes defensed rate.

Ogbah’s explosion numbers were also good — he recorded a 4.63-second 40-yard dash, a 35.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump. Although not part of the SackSEER projection, Ogbah has nice size at 273 pounds, suggesting that he could be effective against the run and the pass. The only knock on Ogbah is his 3-cone time, which is just a bit slower than average.

Good thing there are no cones on an NFL field, huh?

Now Joe isn’t saying the Bucs will draft Ogbah (though Ogbah said the Bucs are pursuing him). In fact, it wouldn’t shock Joe if the Bucs selected a cornerback at No. 9. It depends how the draft shakes out ahead of them.

And no, Joe would not be surprised at all if the Bucs selected two edge rushers.

I would be good with drafting him. He’s a beast

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Leonard Floyd and Ogbah are my first and second choices for DE. None of the DB’s with the exception of Ramsey are worthy of a top 10 pick. Obviously, Ramesy will be gone long before bucs select at 9. Hargraves is not the answer bucs have too many needs to gamble on a short, slow cornerback with bad tape against quality teams.

  3. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I’m willing to bet money we won’t take a cb at 9. Irregardless of how things shake out.

  4. DB55 Says:

I’m a fan of licht but if he picks Hargraves over a DE he should get slapped.

  5. JAB83 Says:

I want to say this once again for the record…. Don’t be surprised if we have a very similar draft as we had last year…. With the exception of a possible MG trade to get another early round pick to spend on a D player… But at number 9 we can absolutely get a stud OL guy and or a high ceiling WR….

Barring a trade we may not see the D addressed till later in the draft… With the trade we can afford to start addressing the D in the draft… Until then… We need one more draft to finish off the building of the O….

  6. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    😁I totally agree DB.

  7. JAB83 Says:

I’m only saying this because the writing is on the wall for fans and The Sloppy Joes to head out to the skyway after the draft….

We don’t know what the “Real Needs” are on D…. We do know we are very talented on D but have failed to capitalize on that talent!!! See the Gost Johnson for further explanation….

As it stands we have no where to just plug in a high round drafted D player as a starter…. NOT THIS YEAR ANYWAYS….

We really don’t know what certain guys can and can’t do…. I expect a DE in the draft but would be disappointed to see a bust at 9 when you can get anything but to fill less obvious but more important roles…

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for the love of God finish building the offense FIRST!!!!!!!!

  8. 813bucboi Says:

after bosa theres no de worthy of a #9 pick….buckner, dodd, Lawson, floyd and this kid are not better than Hargreaves…the best cb in the game is 5’11…a 1/2 inch taller than Hargreaves…please no Clemson dlinemen…buckner is average imo and being a gator fan I saw Floyd every year he played…its no secret…run right at him and he cant do anything…look at his 2014 and 2015 tape vs the gators as well as bama and lsu and see if you still like him…I only saw Hargreaves get beat 3 times in three years…1 to k. Benjamin when hargreaves was a 18year old true freshman and kb was a 22 year old red shirt somoph(1st round pick)….2nd a.cooper who became a 1st round pick and the bowl game where honestly it seemed like he was playing a little caution because of the nfl….people are acting like revis joe haden and chris harris are bums because they’re 5’10….that’s just like scouts passing on kwon because his lack of height and you all see how he’s a str8 up stud….watch the film…Hargreaves will be the next shutdown cb…GO BUCS!!!!

if the tackle from Notre Dame falls to bucs at 9 I agree with you they should take him and grab a de in 2nd round. The only is top priority. The rules are simple

    1. Protect Winston
    2. Give Winston Proven Weapons
    3. See Rule 1

if that OT from notre dame is not there they need to pick Floyd or Ogbah…

    ——————————

Why do you say that? Licht has been money on the draft. Many of you complained that he picked Marpet over the guards from Alabama and florida state etc that were still on the board. Who was right? Licht. Many of the posters were mad at the Sims pick in the third round instead of an olineman 2 years ago and guess what? We have one of the best backfields in the NFL all while scoring a valuable olineman in Pamphile in round 5. I will trust in whatever Licht decides to do with the #9 pick because he has earned that right while some of you b!tch and moaned about the picks I just referenced. I am sure he is a little more educated as it relates to whom will be the better pro for the bucs. Sorry but hargreaves being the pick is not an outrageous thought in the least.

    ^^^ o line not only

  12. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

totally agree with you tmaxcon about taking Stanley if he falls to us at 9 — my only problem with that is that it makes it way less likely we grab a weapon for Jameis in rd 2 — which I desperately am hoping we do

  13. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Trade Down!

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    CreamsicleBananaHammock

I’d prefer to get an experienced WR so when VJAX misses games the offense does not go flat… But either way WR is a huge need. No way bucs can count on Humphries and Bell at this stage. I like both Humphries and Bell but relying on them is not the best way to go. Get 1 more experienced WR and let Humphries and Bell develop without being critical pieces to the puzzle until the develop into reliable targets. . Dye and Murphy should not even be on the roster.

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    Thank you tiny Tim..well said..

plenty of great players on the board AFTER he takes Hargreaves at 9..

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

not a bad plan B if the player they covet is not available. Hope you are well sir.

  17. BucGator Says:

Agreed LUV, trade down if you can! I would like Ogbah over VH3 and I am a Gator ha

  18. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

There are very few positions I’d be “upset” with us taking in the first round, but if I had to rank I’d say

    DE/DT
    OT
    WR
    S
    CB

  19. Kevin Says:

Wtf is the deal with sterling moore???? The guy is good, young…I would understand if it were contract negotiations but why not sign him and eliminate the NEED to draft a corner.

As for an edge rusher I have read alot spence is projected to go in the third….if thats true why not take him in the second and take a chance on him with a lot of good mentors on this team including Jboo

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Tmaxcon

I disagree about Murphy…..I think he has been very productive when he’s on the field….and Jameis seems to really like throwing to him…..the problem is the injury….we will have to see how he develops.
    Here is our receiver corps…
Evans, Vjax, Murphy, Bell, Humphries & Shepard.
We can handle an additional WR especially if Bell & Humphries handle some ST work.
I’d like to see us with one more top tier WR & certainly wouldn’t mind spending a 3rd or higher round pick on one….or even Roddy White.
I think we need to go DE, CB or CB DE in rounds 1 & 2.
A high pick for Glennon would be good to add to the mix.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    Kevin

lookup Moore’s career stats please… He has been bounced from 3 CB needy teams. He is not the answer… A few good games does not make him a reliable option. Banks has more interceptions and similar passes defended in less games.

  22. DB55 Says:

In Licht I trust, I just don’t like Hargraves at #9 or any number for that matter bc I can’t get over his size.

I still don’t like the Sims pick. I think he’s a great slot recvr and a awful rb. If you watch his tape he has big runs if he’s not touched, the second he’s touch he goes down. Or he runs into his own blockers, lmao, he’ll never hear the end of that.

Personally, I think Kafusi will be the best DE in the draft bc he works hard n has heart. Reminds me of Jared Allen for some reason.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

Obviously, I disagree… He has never been healthy and even during a season where Roddy White was unused and supposedly over the hill he had better numbers than any season murhpy has had. The goal is to get better not stay the course. I would not be opposed to murhpy if he played special teams and was more diverse however he more or less is a one trick pony and for a 4th or 5th receiver and that is exactly what he is you can not afford to have a 1 trick pony.

  24. Dave Says:

    JAB33-

Don’t over think it but is blatantly obvious the Bucs have s glaring weakness – DEs that can get to the QB.
1 of them will be selected at 9 and I agree with Joe, don’t be surprised if they get another in rounds 2-4.
They will also take a DB and probably a WR and LB.

I definitely see them taking an OL but not until rounds 4-7

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Tmaxcon

I have no problem replacing him as long as we improve….I’m all for improvement.
It seems to me that we may carry an extra WR this year instead of RB….and I also doubt we carry 3 QBs…..so we may be able to add without replacing him.

  26. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Many believe but I have a feeling cb will not be a position they touch this draft. Grimes,Verner,Robinson and Banks. Even if cb was a position they wanted to address why couldn’t they wait until 2017 to do so. I don’t expect a cb to taken at all.

  27. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Stanley,Rankins or maybe Ogbah at 9. This cb noise is silly.

  28. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

I thought Lovie left the offense short handed and in a bad way with only carrying 5 receivers last year. When vjax went down it was dreadfully obvious that Shepard, Humphries and Dye were not ready for the roles they were thrust into. I too believe the bucs will fix that by carrying 6 receivers this year.

  29. Nick B. Says:

Whoever Licht takes I have full faith in this player being successful. His track record in the draft speaks for itself. I prefer a pass rusher. But if Stanley falls to the Bucs or Licht thinks VH3 is the best option I’m all for it. And I’ve seen a mention or two about staying away from Clemson DE’s…. enough of that already. Because if the Bucs use that philosophy then they wouldn’t have Winston after Ponder and Manuel or even Mariota after Harrington and Akili Smith. Also don’t sleep on Leonard Floyd or Sheldon Rankins. Two players that don’t get a bunch of mentions but some off the radar picks that Charlie Campbell (who still has sources) and Pewter Report have mentioned.

  30. Tiny Tim Says:

There are plenty 5-10 cb that are successful. A true football player has no size requirements. Brooks, sapp and barber were considered undersize for their position. Now teams look for the next sapp, brooks and barber. A true football player has no size requirement ie russell wilson. As for sims, you cant rush for 500 yards in part time duty while averaging 4.5 yards per carry and be awful.

  31. cmurda Says:

You talked me ito it Joe. V Har at #9 overall and Ogbah in round 2

  32. scott Says:

He may be below average as a run stopper but if he is a 10+ sack guy that would make up for it

  33. scott Says:

Ogbah will bot be there past the first round. He is a top 15 pick all day

  34. martinii Says:

One of the top Pass Rushers available to Buc’s. Ogbah would be a great understudy for Ayers. Not sold on Hargreaves in our division. Would have to think long and Hard about taking Ogbah, don’t think he will be available at 39.

  35. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I agree wit you Scott Ogbah not making it to the 2nd rd.

  36. DB55 Says:

    Tiny

Google. Vernon Hargreaves Jr vs kelvin Benjamin then click images. What you’ll find is that Hargreaves can keep up with him, can’t out jump him and can’t out muscle him.

In what world do you think this dude will be able to defend Benjamin in the pros when he got completely owned in college. Why even risk it? You just want to waste a pick bc some media expert mocked him to the Bucs?

    COMEONMAN!!!!

  37. DB55 Says:

Same media experts that didn’t even know that Kwon was our starting MLB. And I’m the one that don’t know jack. Moving right along…..

  38. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

My thing is this we spent a nice chunk of change in free agency on cb. I’m trying to understand why we would then take any cb with the 9th pick let alone vh3. I mean who’s starting spot is he taking??? Definitely not Grimes and with coach Maxie in the building I’m sure he vouching for his understudy Verner. So let me get this str8,we’ll draft a guy in the top ten of the draft and then sit him for a year barring injury. Not buying it yo.

  39. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Nall DB55 you just got good sense that’s all. As for these so-called experts mocking vh3 to the Buccs,my belief is that that is not what they actually belive. We would make ourselves look really unaware taking a cb with our first pick considering our off season.

  40. DB55 Says:

    Nole

Seems pretty obvious to me. Imo it’s a DE, OL or trade down. I’m sure my boy Boyd (Pitt) will be there on day 2.

I think we need at least 2 DEs (Kafusi must be one of them) and 2 WRs (Boyd must be 1 of them) bc out of the 6 current WR on the roster 4 of them were hurt last season. I definitely don’t want to strut Jaboo out there with Evans n Humphries as his only weapons. If so, Dougie will get stuffed on every play, can you say 8 man-fronts?

  41. JabooBuc Says:

We should all be kissing ass because we no longer need to look for a QB. Everything else is icing.

  42. Buc1987 Says:

“Ogbah’s explosion numbers were also good — he recorded a 4.63-second 40-yard dash.”

Joe that’s faster than Treadwell. 🙂

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Boyd won’t be there at 39. Just a hunch.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

    ^^^DB55 <——For this guy

  45. Espo Says:

So he’s projected to average 4 1/2 sacks a season for his first 5 seasons?

  46. DB55 Says:

    87

Really? He a first day guy? Argh, I thought he was a 2nd or 3rd round guy. FML

  47. LargoBuc Says:

I beleive either Ogbah or Lawson are what we need at DE. And you know how I feel about Clemson DE’s so…Ogbah is my bet. He is quick, has strong hands, good against the run. There have been knocks against his agility and technique, but what prospect dosen’t have flaws?
I like Hargreaves, but I like Mackensie Alexander more. And Tmax is right, if Stanley is still there at nine, I would not mind taking him at all.

  48. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Anyone who says they wouldn’t draft VH3 because of his size is a straight up dip s***. The 2 best corners n the league are under 6′. Revis n Haden. VH3 has the potential to be in the same category. Plus we have solid corners. But not a star. VH3 will be a star. Stanley is probably the only player I would take over him at #9.

  49. Jgbucs Says:

First I don’t think bucs will draft VH3 but he is a stud, some people need to go back and watch that 2013 fsu florida game and realize 95% of the game VH3 wasn’t even covering kelvin B. #15 L. Purifoy was. VH3 was covering Rashard Greene who is FSU’S most prolific wr ever and held him to 25 yards

  50. Stanglassman Says:

irregardless. Used by people who ignorantly mean to say regardless.

  51. cmurda Says:

You can blame it all on me. I’m extremely high on V Har. I believe he is only going to get better and he already has an elite skillset. Hargreaves is going to be great. The thing is the guy would love to be here and that kind of motivation can’t be taught. I have seen enough of guys taking the money or being drafted and not wanting to be here. In addition, the DE is loaded in this draft which takes away the dire need in the 1st round unless Buckner or whoever our guy is, still remains.

  52. Tiny Tim Says:

    @db55

If you are going to condem a player because in his freshman year of college against a good player he came out on the short side of the stick on one play, then i have to laugh at you. You actually think that a player is a finish product after his sophmore year? Then i laugh at you. Brooks, sapp and barber where much better players in there 3rd or 4th year in the nfl then their sophmore year in college. You dont think those players had a bad play or two when they did not look so stellar in college? I laugh at you. Hargreaves like any other prospect is an unknown. Licht deserve our trust right now. If you don’t think so, i laugh at you.

  53. tnew Says:

watch his tape guys. Stands straight up at the snap. Very poor get off and not great bend.

  54. feelthepewterpower Says:

been wanting to draft him since day one….reminds me a bit like Simeon Rice…lean, powerful, quick.

  55. DB55 Says:

Idk anything about Hargreaves. Don’t care too either my only concern is stopping thing 1 and thing 2 over in Carolina. Idk if he can do it but we’ll see, then you can laugh all you want. Shiii I’ll laugh with you.

  56. DB55 Says:

As for sims, you cant rush for 500 yards in part time duty while averaging 4.5 yards per carry and be awful.
    ———————————–
Slightly better the udfa Rainey in 14 who ran for 4.3. Slightly. Undrafted. #dimeDozen

  57. godzilla13 Says:

The Bucs won’t draft Hargreaves at nine because of the millions they just spent. Only one DE because with Ayers they now have 5 DE on the roster, six with one in the draft? Emmanuel Ogbah combine times were impressive (10 yard split in 1.63) but they just don’t translate on to the field. He simply isn’t a very twitched-up athlete which effects his lack of explosiveness. He seems to lumber around on film and needs to show more consistency with his motor. There are better options. Everyone always keeps focusing on DE. The player who has elite potential that everyone seems to have forgotten is Robert Nkemdiche. We should do whatever it takes to get him. Draft him in the first and Jonathan Bullard in round two and watch what happens. Here is my top ten edge defenders.

    DEFENSIVE END/EDGE DEFENDERS
    Joey Bosa Ohio State Buckeyes
    Leonard Floyd Georgia Bulldogs
    Noah Spence Eastern Kentucky Colonels
    Shaq Lawson Clemson Tigers
    Jonathan Bullard, Florida Gators
    Jordan Jenkins, Georgia Bulldogs
    Kevin Dodd, Clemson Tigers
    Emmanuel Ogbah Oklahoma State
    Shilique Calhoun Michigan State Spartans
Carl Nassib Penn State Nittany Lions
