“It Was My Fault”

April 12th, 2016
Determined.

Determined.

In a walk-and-talk on the practice fields at One Buc Palace with eye-catching Britt McHenry of BSPN, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, talks about his offseason.

In particular, Jameis discusses his bond-building efforts with wide receiver Mike Evans, and takes the blame for not connecting on the field enough with Evans. This crack in his armor, Jameis said, he is determined to repair for the 2016 season.

Personal Responsibility and taking ownership… We are so lucky to have Jameis Winston in Tampa. All hail the messiah. With a quality WR coach / mentor now in place, I have tremendous confidence the connection between Evans and Winston will be special for years to come.

    Refreshing, isn’t it?
Dude looks good too. He doesn’t look soft like last year.
We definitely need to get this guy some more weapons. Imagine what he can do with a ‘healthy’ group of play-makers!

  3. Joe Says:

May have “looked” soft but he was far from soft. He may have taken the most hits than any other NFL QB and he didn’t miss a snap. As a rookie.

(Joe cannot find individual QB hits but Seattle gave up most QB hits — 14 more QB hits than the Bucs and Russell Wilson did not take all the snaps.)

Even Koetter last year remarked how Jameis was a tough SOB.

Joe even wonders if the trimmed down Jameis may make him a bit brittle?

  4. StevieJanowski Says:

Jameis is saying and doing all of the right things. We are very lucky to have this dude on our team!

    @joe

if he swapped fat for muscle, he should be just fine. if added blubber helps keep your bones and joints withstand pummelling by opposing defenses, i’ll be able to absorb josh mccown-level punishment soon enough.

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

Oh, no doubt Joe. He’s tough as nails! Probably took a few hits he didn’t have to though.

Yet Joe and others believe drafting tackle at 9 would be a bad move? Too funny

  9. Joe Says:

    Tiny Tim:

You know what is even funnier? Seeing a general manager’s reaction to suggrsting drafting a right tackle with No. 9 pick.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Joe but I think Stanley IS going in the top 10.

    Wanna bet?

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

@87- Probably as a LT. Bucs need play-makers, get Jameis another WR and he won’t have to wait for VJax or ME to get open.

  12. Tampa Tony Says:

I’m over the talk and losing. Jameis and Evans and GMC are great sound bites for the media but as a fan just start winning

  13. Joe Says:

Joe but I think Stanley IS going in the top 10.

He may be, but again, Joe cannot be any clearer: The Bucs are not going to draft a right tackle at No. 9. That’s the only reason the Bucs would draft the guy. Unless he’s going to play center.

When was the last time a right tackle was drafted in the top ten, Robert Gallery?

Very possible if not likely the Bucs draft a right tackle, but not at No. 9.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

I wouldn’t be so sure that the Bucs will not draft Stanley if he is there at #9 Joe.

The consensus is that he is one of the top 10 most talented players in this draft.

If Bosa, Buckner, Ramsey, Tunsil and Myles Jack are off the board as expected by the time pick #9 comes around – Stanley would be the BPA at that point on a whole lot of draft boards.

Joe seems pretty cocky and confident that the Bucs would not pick Stanley at 9 – and the reasoning seems to be that D. Smith is set at LT. Well guess what – if you have TWO good young Tackles that can grow with your young franchise QB and protect him from both sides for the next 10 years – then that is a wise and worthy investment IMO. Dotson will be done in a couple years and good, athletic, talented tackles are very hard to come by in this league. Smith and Stanley would both be cross trained to play either side and over time, whoever seems to handle the blind side best will be starting there to protect Jameis as well as possible.

No One including Joe should be shocked if it happens – that’s all I’m saying.

  15. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I’m wit Joe on this one Licht discovered Marpet that tells me a quality RT can be found in a later round. Do any of us have any knowledge as to whether Stanley would be willing to play RT. We all know its more profitable on the left side. Same reason they are now referring to Ramsey as a corner. I’m sure his agent made a few calls stating WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN PLAYING SAFETY. Why??? Because its way more money long term involved with playing CB. Again Ogbah at 9. And I hope Billings is the pick in the second round.

@Joe, do you think he has only lost weight (fat), but not put on muscle? He looks stronger to me, but I haven’t seen the guy in person…

I’m assuming he’s built up his muscle more, plus we’ve seen in the past that he will add some weight as the season progresses. So I think this is a non issue.

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Pickgrin it certainly appears that Joe is saying he has direct confirmation from the GM that they will not be drafting a right tackle at #9. Joe usually isn’t so adamant about things the Bucs will or won’t do. He has actual conversations with these guys on occasion so I would say he is much more informed than us on this particular subject.

FWIW, because it seems that many are now saying there will be no real top 10 talent available when the Bucs pick at 9, I wouldn’t mind them drafting Goff if available and then trading him for an extra pick and a mid first rounder. The difference between the 9th pick and the 20th seems marginal at this point. If they get a QB that a few teams want that may be quite valuable as trade bait.

  18. Kevin Says:

I am very eager to see kenny bell this year. I will bet he plays a crap load in preseason. The guy has a lot of potential and his work ethic is there.

  19. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ joe

The tackle from notre dame is a left tackle. Not sure why you insist on calling him a right tackle.

  20. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ touchdown

Joe said “a” gm told him that and not the bucs gm. Joe talks to many people. You cant conclude that joe was talking about licht unless he quotes him. I believe joe was adamant that the bucs would not/should not draft evans because he was a vjax clone. We know what happened.

Cam Newton, far and away lead the league in hits taken. Not that I don’t agree with you.

ps – when I think of Britt, I think of her tow truck comments…..

  24. DemBoysFromDaBay727 Says:

I trust Joe and his connections but let’s not forget that Dotson is not getting any younger neither is Cherlius. You’ve got to start looking for a replacement soon and if the top tier guys are off the board it would be hard not to think the Bucs wouldn’t consider Stanley if he’s still there @ 9.

There was a lot of scouts who thought that he was just as good as Tunsil and is a better run blocker if im right. And Tackle is one of the top, three position ‘s that are the hardest to acquire good talent at. Rarely does a good tackle make it to FA and if you want one in the draft you usually have to take one in the 1st rnd.

But like Joe said. I don’t know if he’s worth our top ten pick. I understand that LT is valued more than RT but is still a vitale position in the NFL. And lets not forget our no. 1 priority is still protecting #3.
