Licht: Glennon Trade Talks “Dwindled Down” To “A Few Teams”

March 28th, 2016
"Your time is coming, my son."

“Your time is coming, my son.”

It’s been a hell of a spring break for the revived Mike Glennon Mob.

Today, SiriusXM NFL Radio offered its share of Glennon trade chatter. Joe was intrigued that after tapping his many sources, during and following the NFL Owners Meetings last week, Movin’ The Chains host and former Jets personnel executive Pat Kirwan is confident Glennon remains a viable possibility for the Broncos.

But perhaps most telling is general manager Jason Licht telling Mike Florio of NBC Sports Network that Glennon trade talk is alive and well and has “dwindled down now to a few teams.”

You can watch the excellent Licht interview below. It was taped last week.

On Glennon, Licht went on to say a decision on his future has yet to be decided at One Buc Palace, and there’s a possibility of offering Glennon a two-year contract extension to play No. 2 to America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Frankly, Joe thinks Licht should seek counseling if he passes on a third-round pick for Glennon.

Hell, maybe the Broncos would give the Bucs their first-round pick, No. 31 overall in 2016, in exchange for Glennon and Tampa Bay’s second-round pick (No. 39 overall). That would be a mind-blower to close opening night of the draft.

Enjoy Licht’s full NBC Sports Network interview below.

For some reason I just thought of the song “Alive and Kicking”..strange, isn’t it?

  2. DB55 Says:

The back-up quarterback is such an important position in the NFL. Boom mic drop

  3. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

I know I’ve thrown cold water on trading Glennon here in the past. I mean the people that think we’re going to move from 9 to 2 for Glennon, or that we’re going to get anything better than a 5th rounder for him are just crazy.

That being said, I could see us trading pick 39 & Glennon to the Broncos for pick 31. I’d do that deal in a heartbeat and think that could be a possibility.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

8 will look good in Jets green. I’m sure that Brady and Belicheat are shaking in their boots at the thought of facing the mighty 8. Just hope licht can get a decent pick or player in return. No matter what he gets there will plenty on here thinking he should have gotten more for the 5-13 backup with limited ceiling. The future is bright in Bucland. Not so much for jets though

  5. JoeBuc Says:

My prediction is that there’s a phantom market for Glennon at best and that in the end the Bucs will claim they wanted to retain him all along. I’d like to be wrong. I oftentimes am… 😀

  6. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

I also read somewhere recently that Glennon for Muhammed Wilkerson is on the table. Doesn’t make much sense until you consider the cap relief that would mean for the Jets.

If that deal actually is on the table we’d be absolutely ridiculous to pass it up

  7. Dexfields Says:

A third round pick for a QB that was drafted with a reach 4th round pick..that hasn’t did nothing in the NFL yet when given a chance..thats what u think Joe huh?U really are a fool Joe for thinking that!!!!!

  8. JabooBuc Says:

Creamsickle: please remind me to never negotiate any deals for me. You would give up Glennon and our 39th to move up 8 places? That’s just dumb.

  9. JabooBuc Says:

    Let you^^^

  10. finishers Says:

maybe they resign him to trade him?

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Jaboo…he was agreeing with Joe and I’m kinda on board. Like 50-50.

  12. BigMacAttack Says:

39 to 31 only at the time if your guy is there at 31, but still iffy

  13. HIRE JIMBO Says:

    @dexfields
Glennon was a 3rd round pick to begin with. #73 overall. And has done more than Osweiler, with less talent, bad coaching, and NO defence. And Osweiler just got PAID!!!

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I would trade our 39 & Glennon for their 31st & a 4th round pick…..not straight up.

    SMH…some people. I wasn’t going to bother but…
    Thanks.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF…they will laugh at you then.

  17. Steve Says:

No way you trade glennon just move from 39 to 31. How much beter of a player are you really going to get that far out. You have to get an additional pick for him. We still need DB/DE X2/WR/S and LB. Trading glennon just to move up is just reaching and not being smart when we still have so many needs.

  18. R.O Says:

The day era of instant information why would I listen to something that’s a week old… 💩💩💩

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @87…

If the want Glennon, they will pay.

Glennon’s trade value has been lowered by all the JBF posters calling him a Giraffe….how could we get anything for such a laughing stock?
According to most Buc fans we would be lucky to get anything for such a loser.
All I can say is we had better dump him before Miko rhymes in.

I am very fearful that Pablo may have something to say.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo doesn’t care if we trade Glennon or keep him. Pablo doesn’t care what we get for anyone named Mike…..now Pablo would care if his name was Miguel. Mike Glennon has never watched Pablo table dance so Glennon may be of good character. Pablo thinks he might be worth an 8th round pick”

  21. Kevin Says:

If Koetter looks at glennon like he does matt ryan….which anyone who have looked at mayt ryan prior to koetter his numbers were very glennon like . If glennon signed a backup contract for backup money I would keep him. UNLESS we got a minimum third round pick. Maybe moving u p in the first but I would like to.see him stay I dont believe he will.sgn though he wants to start. If he leaves I will for sure follow him every game

  22. Kevin Says:

    Agree with steve

  23. Kevin Says:

Unless there is a guy sitting there at 32 they are completely in love with otherwise they better give us more than that. Bucs have something they need

  24. gotbbucs Says:

A trade to the Broncos makes way too much sense for it to actually happen. He’ll be dealt during the draft is my guess. With as much smoke as Licht is throwing around, I can’t see him not moving him at this point. I certainly can’t see Glennon signing a two year backup deal after seeing what Osweiler just got on the free market.
I could see the Broncos trading spots with our 2nd round pick and giving us a either a mid round pick this year or maybe a conditional earlier round pick next year based on Glennon’s production and games started in the 2016-2017 season.

  25. JAB83 Says:

BOOM…. Can I get a ohhhh snap JAB83 mentioned the possibility of extending MG to keep him as a career back up!!!!!

Bottom line…. Some guys (the Clown McClown) are better and more valuable as back ups and they know it….

    Josh M. = Mike G.

Except Mike is a better guy off the field by a hair!!!

  26. salish_seamonster Says:

Trading Mike Glennon to move up 8 spots? Unless the talent falls off the face of the earth between the 31st and 39th player, that trade is just plain stupid. If that’s the shape of the deal, then I don’t see the point of making this trade until draft night. If they see someone falls to 31 that they covet, and they don’t think he can be had at 39, then you do it. If not, you’ve essentially traded Mike Glennon for nothing.

  27. Getaclue Says:

I like that trade but with the jets pick

  28. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Mark Sanchez was traded for a conditional 7th rounder. Moving up from 39 to 31? We’d be lucky to get that

  29. DB55 Says:

    Question:

If we trade Glennon does Licht draft a QB like Cardell Jones or Dak Prescott? Or do we ride with Ryan Griffin?

I kinda like the idea of C. Jones and the Messiah battling in practice. Two undefeated champions going at it everyday works for me.

  30. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Glennon has value for one very simple reason. Good QBs are hard to find. Not even great ones. Just decent solid guys who take care of the ball. Also, in weather like Denver, you want a big guy with arm strength. I know some of you on here lack in common sense (dexfields). But really…Glennon checks all those boxes. And did it with one of the worst teams ever. Knowing all of that, it’s simple. Someone will give at minimum a 3rd round pick for the guy. All you need is 2 teams that really want him. We have that so…once again “common sense” says he will be traded and we will get a starter with that pick.

  31. buccfan305 Says:

There he is again….guy in the back ground at the 3:35 mark almost bust his a$$ looking at his phone…..lmao !!!!!

  32. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Also, it would make zero sense for MG8 to sign a 2 year backup QB contract. He will be getting at least 10-15 million a year next off season. Wishful thinking but come back to reality.

As for swapping MG8 and our 2nd for pick #31. Only if a guy we love drops and is available. I would much rather have their 2nd round pick and keep ours as well. Two 2nd round picks in this draft could be huge. We could get a DE, Safety, WR, or whatever n fill 2 starting spots with great players. This draft is at least 3 rounds deep with some awesome studs. 4 picks in the first 3 rounds would be huge to build up our team.

We aren’t a contending team yet. We are close, but still lack at least 4-5 good starters. Licht will get it right, I have faith in him. Especially with his drafting skills.

  33. RustyRhinos Says:

    Hey Funky
“We aren’t a contending team yet. We are close, but still lack at least 4-5 good starters.”

With how many good backups to those 4-5 good starters?

  34. Cobraboy Says:

    The Great Rumor Game begins.

I like how Licht plays his cards. Very subtle: “It’s just a few teams.” LOL. That’ll make a team desperate for a QB sweat…

  35. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

    @ cobra boy

Then again we don’t know the whole behind the scenes scoop. Maybe Licht has weeded out the tire kickers looking to get a steal on a starting NFL QB and has narrowed it down to a few teams with genuine interest? I know if I were in his shoes I wouldn’t want to waste time talking to teams where the gap between what Licht is asking and what they’re offering in return is too far apart and doesn’t look like it would close.

    Maybe.

Seems to me that the longer Licht waits, the better the deal he can drive. Other teams are playing the “we really don’t need a QB that bad” game, but I suspect that’s playing a bluff…

Lots of water to yet flow under the bridge before the last chapter is written…

I doubt Mike Glennon will be a Buc on opening day. Or even on draft day.

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t see a team giving us anymore than a 4th thru 6th rounder for Glennon. They might sweeten the deal with a throwin players. Not much else though.
Sure. we’d all like a 2nd or 3rd rder. But it ain’t happening.

  38. gotbbucs Says:

The QB position is unlike any other position in any given sport. Trade value is totally different than what you would give for any other position. The Osweiler deal is proof of what teams will give up just for the chance at a good starter.
I was in the camp that didn’t think he could fetch more than a 4th round pick until I really thought it out. This is a bad draft for QBs beyond the first two guys. Glennon’s value right now is about as high as it ever could be, especially for a team like Denver that has most of the pieces in place right now for another run.

  39. David Says:

I don’t like the fact we give up a 2nd rd pick in this trade…maybe Glennon, their 1st and a swap of 2nd rounders or Glennon, their 1st and a swap of 3rd rounders.

  40. Sean Says:

If we go from 39 to 31 and get “our guy” who we think is better than others we also get an option year on that guy for being a first round pick instead of a second…so if we hit on the pick it is much more valuable
