Bucs, Martin Nearing Deal?

March 8th, 2016
The plot thickens.

The plot thickens.

With Lamar Miller and Chris Ivory being snatched up today (pending contracts signed), the pool for available (decent) running backs is quickly evaporating.

Perhaps this is why Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times Twittered that the Bucs and free agent Doug Martin are nearing a pact?

@NFLStroud – Bucs are believed to be nearing a deal for @DougMartin22 for around $6.85 million per year.

This seems, well, a bit odd. Look, no contract is signed (that we know of) and we are hours away from the free agency dinner bell ringing. It would surprise Joe if Martin and his camp didn’t test the market.

That’s just common sense and the agent doing his job for his client.

  7. Just Sayin' Says:

Joe Wouldn’t the last two days of talks with other teams be considered testing the market? Seeing ivory and millers deals shows what the market value is.

  8. Dylan Says:

His agent has been testing market haha… The “tampering period”. Market price was determined when ivory signed with jags.

  9. Alstott up the gut Says:

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    @Jimbo..

That’s exactly what my wish list has right now…but I did add Roddy White awhile back..

  16. Byrd Says:

Reports say bucs will be active tomorrow so we shall see… GO BUCS!!

  17. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Roddy White is a depth piece. Jones could be our #2 by the end of the year. I like him more than White.

  18. HIRE JIMBO Says:

    @Byrd
It better be a big play for Vernon and Schwartz.

  19. AceofAerospace Says:

Maybe Doug wants to play for the Bucs and would take a little less to stay.

  20. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Per TheBayCave.Com the bucs will begin negotiations with Vernon tomorrow @ 4pm and will pull out all the stop to bring him to the bucs. We shall be VERY AGGRESSIVE.

    THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN ABOUT

  21. Guzzie Says:

Worst move ever…Doug will get hurt in preseason and be cut by this time next year…

  22. HIRE JIMBO Says:

    @ Guzzle

What is YOUR suggestion then Mr GM

  23. LifeOfABucFan Says:

That’s good new Jimbo…some of our posters would be very happy with that kind of news..

  24. salish_seamonster Says:

Testing the market is what the tampering period is for. His value only declines from here.

  25. Stanglassman Says:

Doug had 3 carries last preseason, why say stupid negative stuff that makes zero sense?
The guy had a great rookie year, the next two he dealt with injuries, no OC and help with QB and OL play, once that got sorted out he had another outstanding season. I don’t get why so much hate from the so called Buc fans. The man deserves at least 7 million a year with 15 mill guaranteed.

  26. salish_seamonster Says:

^^ Deserves at least 7 million and 15 guaranteed? Deserves? What are you, his agent?

  27. JAB83 Says:

Yeah… Kinda… Hope thats enough money for him to embrace Musel Hamster the rest of his career!!!

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

My Tampa Bay Bucs are just a..messy team! martin should have been signed long ago as signal to him and the offense we must carry on. Instead, they make a fiasco of it and hold out for the last bit of xash. In a strange way, I hope martin does bolt. Just to show my cheapo Bucs..the sun does not set anywhere near their A..! Good teams go out and attract quality free agents. Not us, we be..filling holes. And that is the problem. Lots of mediocre quantity..and no Quality!
