Brooks Identifies Forced Patience On Jameis

Derrick Brooks talks Jameis

Jameis Winston was smacked in the face, highlighting core advice Derrick Brooks.

Iconic linebacker Derrick Brooks talked America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, today.

Speaking on WDAE-AM 620, Brooks explained that his ongoing mentoring of Jameis has a steady theme of patience. Brooks preaches a respect and embrace of the learning process, which Jameis is knee-deep in still.

Brooks said from Day 1 he was hammering Jameis to be patient with all aspects of his new professional life. So that’s why Brooks didn’t cringe when Jameis failed on opening day against Tennessee because it sent a valuable message.

“There was no greater example than Jameis’ first pass as a starting quarterback was a Pick-6, so he got to force into that patient mentality from the beginning,” Brooks said. “You just saw the maturation over the season, in him understanding what it was like, to then now approaching football in a business sense.”

Brooks went on to say his message hasn’t changed during his regular consultations with Jameis, who Brooks says is focusing on offseason time management and learning to say, “No,” to many requests.

Damn, Jameis is so lucky to have Brooks’ actively in his corner, and it’s a credit to Jameis for being so receptive to counseling.

Not only is Jameis fortunate to have Mr Brooks as a mentor but the Bucs organization and community continues to be impacted by a great man and leader.

I really wish Mr Brooks to take on a senior front office role.

I love Mr Brooks… Jaboo is very lucky to have such an excellent mentor. 55 radio show should be much more entertaining this upcoming season since he will not be covering for or making excuses for his buddy Lovie. I respected brooks loyalty to his dear freind but it was painfully hard to listen to him justify Lovie’s failures some weeks.

  3. JAB83 Says:

    Who’s your favorite mentor???

  4. 813bucboi Says:

@Architek….I agree…Mr. Brooks should be the president of football operations at the very least…GO BUCS!!!

Biggest FSU fan on the planet here, but sorry guys….why exactly would we hire Brooks?

I’m over trying to reclaim the past with ex-greats being brought on staff. Brooks is in the FO for the Storm…what exactly has he done there that’s so great? What exactly are his qualifications for a FO position? Why is he more qualified than someone that’s worked the way up through the proper channels?

    great post…

derrick brooks will always be the best ambassador Tampa and the bucs have that being said it does not mean he is qualified to run the team. Living in the past never works… Appreciate the past respect the past but never try to recreate the past.

  10. biff barker Says:

If Brooks was the President of Football Operations, Lovie would still be your coach.

    No thank you.

  11. Ed Says:

Hire MR.Brooks as the next G.M. a person who player’s respect and listen too.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

kameis is gonna need quite more than Mr Books this season. He..is going to need a DEFENSE!

That is why there is a new Head Coach and Defensive staff for the Bucs!!!!

  14. Taxkleblockwin Says:

Defense so very critical in this game. Just look at the SB. 0 pass TDs. I’m not worried about Jameis. Webers the D to start creating more opportunities.

  15. Destinjohnny Says:

@creamsicle and @ed….so I guess the broncos are living in the past…Elway fired his friend john fox and hired his other friend gary kubiac…im pretty sure brooks is smart enough to separate business and friendship…the storm are one of the best teams in arena football…he markets the team well and some of his players have got picked up by an nfl team…the man is smart, knows football and knows how a team should be ran…if licht and dirk don’t make the playoffs I vote licht out and brooks in…GO BUCS!!!

  17. bucs4life86 Says:

Brooks is a very intelligent man, especially when it comes to football. We hired doug Williams in the front office. Why not DB55? Your silly to think hes not qualified for a front office job. There isn’t too many other ppl that know the Bucs better than Derrick.

  18. Rick McDonough Says:

Hardy Nickerson for Buc ROH…maybe #55 knows how Hardy was treated when released recently as a coach…finding out on social media is know way to treat a Great former Buc!
