17 Starts But No Reported Sniffs

Toast joins a trio of the unwanted

Three former Buccaneers cornerbacks started a combined 17 games last year.

They would be Tim “Loaf” Jennings, Mike “Toast” Jenkins, and Sterling “The Artist” Moore.

To the best of Joe’s research, not one of those guys has enjoyed any demand in 2016 free agency.

Yes, it’s early in free agency, but the aforementioned reality is pretty darn brutal. Hell, it’s easy to find general managers to say “you can have too many cornerbacks,” yet this trifecta of low-paid corners awaits real interest.

Joe has nothing against Moore, who likely will be on a roster before the NFL Draft. The other two probably will be seen next on a list of top-20 worst Bucs personnel moves. The return of the Jenkins bromance for the 2015 season was one of the deep head-scratchers of this century.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t see a huge difference between Grimes and Moore except Miko of course. I’m all for bringing Moore back. I’d rather play Moore than Verner.

  2. JimBucsFan Says:

Obviously, our CB play last year was abysmal (year before too). But why are we letting Sterling Moore walk? Am I the only one that thought he was our most consistent CB last year? Joe? Thoughts?

Yes, Moore appeared to the most consistent. He also got eight starts in a row, which might have been more than any other CB. Odd year with Lovie rotating guys and starting the season with Loaf Jennings being gifted the job. –Joe

  3. DB55 Says:

Looks like Sanu is signing with the Falcons.

That was reported yesterday. 🙁 –Joe

  4. Tbbucs3 Says:

We have no corners with unique ability, Moore and Verner are average but aren’t special in talent. Banks is good for length and physicality. Hargreaves would add unique skill and football IQ that our defense needs.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

    Jenkins. Pishhh smfh.

  6. firethecannons Says:

What happened to Barimah, judeadjei I think spelling is wrong–he can join the Jenkins and Jennings, We need good players, Hargreaves ok but not first round!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Matt Says:

    We just signed brent grimes!

  8. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I’m told CB Brent Grimes has agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $16.5M with the #Bucs.

we got him coming to Bucs!

  9. JimBucsFan Says:

We just signed Brent Grimes! I’m happy to kick those tires, Miko in-tow and everything!

  10. Delson Says:

I dont like that signing. Lol i guess desperate teams only get desperate players.

  11. Bama Rich Says:

Now we need to resign Sterling Moore

  12. RonRicoFSU Says:

Yes, please bring back Sterling Moore also !!!

  13. 813bucboi Says:

what is licht dong?….so you sign a 33 year old cb that has clearly lost a step and pay him 8 mill per year but failed to sign Mario Williams that wanted the same amount of money, was a glaring need, and averaged at least 10sack over the last 4 years….yeah I voted zero confidence for a reason….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. DaRealistBucFan Says:

Whybate people excited about Grimes? This is another hour up signing by Jason Lict. Grimes isn’t even close to being his pro bowl self. He was easily the dolphins worst CB last year hence the pay cut. I hate to be negative but the more this off season goes on the more I’m starting to believe Lict had a lot to do with those failed free agent signings we’ve had the last couple years and if so he should be @ Illinois with Lovie. #FireLicht

  15. unbelievable Says:

yeah not really understanding that level of money for Grimes at all.

  16. Buccanalia Says:

If we were going to sign a FA cornerback, I would have thought Sean Smith would be a target for Licht, given the size of the receivers we have to go up against four times a year in Atlanta and Carolina. He wasn’t that much more expensive than Brent, is younger and much bigger, and does not come with a spouse who bad mouths the team’s quarterback and owners.

If we draft a bigger outside corner and make Brent our nickel corner, that could work well; however, I think we may have paid too much for him as a nickel, since I believe Boykin would cost less and is a very good nickel corner. It will be interesting to hear if any other team was willing to pay such a steep price for Brent. I suspect Miko may have spooked most other teams.

  17. Daniel Says:

I hope Moore comes back. If we draft Vernon Hargreaves (fingers crossed) do you see Grimes moving to safety, Moore and Hargreaves playing corner, and Alterraun Vernon playing the nickel?

32 years old might not be too old, but the deep ball has gotten Grimes lately.

  18. John Says:

DB55: You dont know the difference between grimes and moore?! how about probowls.

  19. John Says:

BTW all this love for moore, the dude was allergic to tackling.. he would always dive with a forearm.. never wrap up.. proof is on tape.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

@darealistbucfan….exactly…I completely agree…I even read on a peter king column that m.johnson was forced on lovie by licht…lovie never wanted Johnson…he wanted Everson Griffen but licht waited too long and the vikes resigned him…GO BUCS!!!

  21. Kevin Says:

They damn well better sign sterling moore wtf is going on im happy with the moves but moore better have a tampa jersey on this season

  22. Fsuking Says:

    Bring. Back. Moore

  23. NCBuc Says:

Yeah….. He sucked so bad that he was in the pro-bowl! And not giving any names… The one that said he made the pro-bowl after several didn’t wanna be there. How do you think JW got there? Oh yeah….. Several QBs dropped out.

  24. godzilla13 Says:

I am surprised that no one is interested in Sterling Moore. Its early and I bet he goes back to Dallas or the Pats. Brent Grimes is a better CB than anyone who played at CB here last year. No one could match his 4 INT and 14 passes defended. Jude Adjei-Barimah is still with the team. Sterling Moore had issues with some of his teammates with his “chemistry” and that was why he is not going to be re-signed, whatever that means. He is not coming back and I don’t know why people don’t get that? We are not going to rebuild this team in one year either. We can either go for the defensive line or our secondary in the draft but not both. I say we rebuild the defensive front since this years draft is so strong in that position. It will end up Grimes and Verner as our starting CB. Adjei-Barimah will either be in the slot or take Verners place and he will go back to the slot like last year. Not sure what’s wrong with Banks but he could not cover in the times he got a chance when he returned from his knee injury. He just was never the same IMO. I bet he gets released after this year. I have been a big fan of his in the past but after last year I have lost all confidence in him. Brett Maxie is back with Verner so I expect his confidence to grow. Verner wasn’t great last year either but he is the best of the rest. I actually want to draft Cyrus Jones in the fourth round out of Alabama. He could go opposite Grimes with Verner in the slot. Returns kicks as well. We have a shot to draft a really good DE and DT in the first two rounds or maybe DE, WR, DT and CB. May be to late to trade Glennon now. Shame if we passed on a second round pick.
