With The Ninth Pick In The 2016 NFL Draft

January 3rd, 2016

lovie and licht 0623The Buccaneers began the Lovie Smith regime with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

In a few short months, the Bucs will have the No. 9 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Hey, that’s progress!

By virtue of playing the second-weakest schedule in the NFL among the teams that finished 6-10, the Bucs will pick second among that group. Ahh, the benefits of crappy opponents.

It’s never too early for draft speculation. Yeah, the Bucs need a premium defensive end and cornerbacks, and they are aching for an electric wide receiver. There are plenty of other holes, too. Sadly, one of them appears to be tight end. Will Logan Mankins retire?

Don’t forget. The free agency dinner bell rings in about 70 days, and the Bucs have mass quantities of available cash under the salary cap.

    Fire the clown

  2. NJBucsFan Says:

I’m pretty sure we played the weakest schedule in the NFL period. We are plain bad

  3. Couch Fan Says:

In that spot. I dont predict a good enough DE to be there or a WR. Probably not a corner either. I am going to guess the pick will be either a O-Lineman or a safety.

  4. Bucnut2 Says:

Let’s pick a qb who can play as well as he talks. Jw= big hat, no cattle.

  5. Bculaw Says:

Any difference makers available at 9 at wR, O-line, DE, or CB?

  6. AceofAerospace Says:

    Fire Lovie first.

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

    @ The Glazers

These are not tough times!!! It is time to be Tough!!!! Stand up and pull this Franchise out of the garbage!!!! Do not do what is easy and keep the status quo and watch your business flounder!!!!

Now is time to lead!!! If you do what is hard and make the right decision, years from fans will talk about how the owners took over the situation when it looked so bleak, And carried this Franchise back to greatness!!!!

You have to take that chance Mr Glazers!!!!!!!!

  8. Greg Says:

Great, drafting just high enough that we won’t get anyone worth a crap! Bucnut, STFU you dumbass!

  9. QBKilla Says:

Miami won today so the Bucs should be picking 8th.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Surely there will be a top CB or DE available at this position…..also we could trade down and use the later round picks and the Glennon pick to get 5 really good players…..DE, 2 CBs, S, WR

  11. Seminole Bill Says:

Readers, they are not going to fire Lovie, so stop wishing for it. This team needs continuity, at the head coaching slot, at QB and in the locker room. Just look at Cleveland; since 2005 they have had 5 head coaches, and they just fired Pettine, this year’s coach. There is no guarantee that a new head coach would do better. Do you want a revolving door? (and do you think the Glazers cab do a better job of picking a head coach?????). Stick with Lovie through next year. Progression would call for 2-14, now 6-10 and at least 9-7 next year.

Don’t forget, the 2-14 team was a disaster. Offensive coordinator goes down with health problems, free agents – all busts, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. This year, Jameis, Marpet, D. Smith – all rookies, all future all pros. Let’s see what Lovie can do on the defensive side for next year. Pick number 9 – should be a good DB available at that time.

Go Bucs!!! I’m renewing my season tickets. Anyone else?

  12. I know why Says:

three straight years of picking in the top 10! Great job….Hey Joe, after watching tonight not so sure on that grand slam draft of last year and LT Smith….more like a double.

  13. Costa Rica John Says:

Liht has proven he can pick good players through the first four rounds. Let’s take the best available players every round no matter the position.

  14. BrianBucs Says:

Can Bucs draft a new head coach?

  15. Dean Says:

ESPN has the Bucs picking 8th, with the first pick of 6 win teams. Who’s right?

  16. HIRE JIMBO Says:

    Seminole
STFU lovie is a garbage coach and for all u idiots saying we were 2-14 last year and We won 4 more games. That excuse is moot. WE TANKED LAST YEAR. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN 2-14. THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT ON THIS DEFENSE. JAMEIS IS OUR TEAM. if you can’t see that, go b a titans fan

  17. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Trade the 8-9 pick for Sean payton. That’s how bad lovie is.

  18. Brent bull/buc Says:

I think te is ok with brate. I know we need another wr. I think we gotta focus at de s cb too. I’d add a ol guy to. I’d def resign cherilus and Martin. To big to rebuild overnight though. Just hoping for 8 wins next year. Lovie gone next year.

  19. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

should go and grab te oleary out there jameis n him had a great connection, let ASJ walk or trade him… the defense needs 2 safeties, im convinced banks n verner can play with a normal scheme and 1 db coach back there not to screw them up

  20. Jacko101 Says:

Ogbah or trade with Cleveland for Bosa

  21. TBAYBUC Says:

Jalen Ramsey. I think he brings some attitude to the Defense that it desperately needs. Kids a shut down corner with good size and speed as well.

  22. HIRE JIMBO Says:

I say Ramsey. If he’s there.

  23. PhillyBuc Says:

    Fire Lovie

  24. Stanglassman Says:

The Bucs (.484) pick 9th due to strength of schedule, 8th Miami (.469).

I wouldn’t be shocked if Bosa falls to the Bucs at 9th. The top 8 are not in desperate need of rushing DE. The teams that need a DE are Giants, Falcons and Bears. I do like Ramsey over VH3.

  25. BucGator Says:

    Buckner from Oregon!

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

If a D End is not there with the 9th pick? Trade down and get 2 players

  27. Arealbucsfan Says:

    Hargreaves!

  28. Pierce Says:

    And so it begins….

  29. Mhill Says:

Simple, either Bosa or Hargraves. I know there top 5 talent each but our weakness on defense is so glaring that moving up for either of those players will be an immediate impact and worth the price. I’m not so concerned at WR because we still have Bell from last years draft and hopefully Vjax.

  30. ManzielMadness Says:

I like both Ramsey and VH3, however if we take Ramsey I’d put him at Safety, he seems to be a special talent at that spot…. wouldn’t mind a DE either

  31. cmurda Says:

I like Jalen Ramsey a lot but definitely don’t think he will be available.

  32. Trubucfan22 Says:

Trading down is probably the best bet if we don’t fall in love with anyone. We have a lot of holes to fill. And our new scouting department seems to be top notch. Bring on the draft!

  33. godzilla13 Says:

DE Joey Bosa, CB Jalen Ramsey and CB Vernon Hargreaves III will be gone by the time we pick. The player who just may fall to us is DE Robert Nkemdiche? If all of the above fall then the pick is DE Shaq Lawson. I am not big on DE Emmanuel Ogbah, I think he is overrated. The other option is to go with WR Laquon Treadwell to give Jameis some help. In the second round go with CB Desmond King. In FA get DE Mario Williams and a Safety and CB.

  34. the real bucs fans Says:

just relax the bucs are in a good spot with the 9 pick…sign mike willams back with josh gordon then we are set at wr. add jjp then belive in the draft

  35. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

I HEARD LOVIE SMITH WILL BE FIRED TODAY AT NOON, …….

  36. ChiefZ Says:

Yeah, and Larry Marmie is “shocked.” I’m sure.
