No Regrets On Rant

January 5th, 2016
No regrets.

Comfortable with his own words.

The beautiful, eloquent, postgame rant by a 21-year-old rookie claiming coaches care more about winning than several of his Bucs teammates solidified America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, as the alpha dog in the Bucs’ locker room Sunday.

Given a few hours to reflect on his strong words, Jameis told Joe and other members of the local pen and mic club Monday he had zero regrets.

Joe asked Jameis if maybe his words rubbed some teammates the wrong way, Jameis was direct.

“Absolutely not,” Jameis said. “The first person I called out was myself. I made that very clear.”

And he did. In his outburst, Jameis more than once said he needs to improve. But Jameis also said he was going to sit down with the culprits and try to get their attitudes changed.

“Whoever I can see, whoever I can affect,” Jameis said. “Guys know who they are. At the end of the day, everyone is going to work together and we are going to build this team together.”

When asked about Jameis’ emotional tongue-lashing from Sunday, Bucs coach Lovie Smith said not only did he not have any issue with it, he thinks Jameis needs to be more vocal.

Good for Jamies….and good for Lovie….Jameis now that he’s no longer a rookie can take the reins….and be the leader he is.

  2. Vincente Says:

    Two things will happen Joe.
    1. Players will listen to that post game conference and realize that he’s right and get in gear this offseason. They will also realize that there isn’t a boy leading this team. Winston has the backbone to take anything thrown at him. Just look at what he went through up until his first game of the season.

    2. Those players who are not playing to their potential will be singled out in the locker room and it will be evident when we watch them play next season. They will feel uncomfortable and will eventually be shown the door. There isn’t very many players who are slacking. But they just got put on notice and I garauntee

  4. ElioT Says:

    Good for Jamies.

This kid is the only one with a set of balls who won’t tolerate this loser, weak d*ck mentality any longer.

Anyone not on board with Jamies should get a pink slip. Don’t care how “talented” they may be. If losing and being an embarrassment to Tampa doesn’t bother you, GTFO!

    Siege this!

    Go Sucs!

  5. bculaw Says:

Agree completely, ElioT. A bit of housecleaning may be in order, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some “talented” players shown the door. In my experience, it is really tough to change someone’s mindset because the “loser” will revert back to that mindset at the sign of adversity. The only way to truly change the culture is to cut out the infection and replace it with others with “like” mentality – those who disdain losing. I would bet money on one thing – JW will have the support of the ENTIRE F.O. and ownership group for the foreseeable future and anyone that has a problem with that will be sent packing.

  6. Tom Edrington Says:

Someone needs to call out the losers on this team.

    Lovie apparently won’t.

  7. 1nebuc Says:

I waited all day yesterday and Lovie is still here so by me being a buc fan i will now cheer and hope for Lovie’s success. However the organization has to give us something in return. When you are trying to build something without all the parts you have to find away to get those parts as soon as possible. The sooner the project is done the sooner you will see your return. Well GMC is our Herschel Walker and we must take advantage of it . This is not do to my personal thoughts of this guy. This is straight business. Im almost sure you can get a pick and a player for him . You take a team like Cleveland and give them GMC and Mike Glennon for their 1st or 2nd rd pick and Joe Haden or Joe Thomas. See these are the things that need to be going on in the coming months .

  8. PanthersSuck! Says:

Need someone like Hardy to go into that locker room and kick some a$$

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Vincente

You left out a third thing that can happen. Players will see the writing on the wall and shape up. It’s shape up or ship out…doesn’t always end with ship out, although I certainly concede in some cases that is the ONLY solution.

But with players like ASJ and ME I still hold hope that they can grow up and that #3 is the player who can help them. Even if they are stupid, (which I do not believe) their agents certainly aren’t. Fameis now is in control!!! They are receivers! If they want to touch the ball again they will not cross #3!

He’s always had the leadership he just needed to back it up with play on the field. He has done that in spades. Not just the 4,000 yards or the obvious improvement at QB…he has been in tussles with DLineman…he has frequently thrown freaking blocks for his fellow Bucs…and as he quickly pointed out he has been quick to throw himself under the bus first.

With Lovie’s stamp of approval on Fameis rant it’s clear that #3 is the straw that will stir the Bucs drink. In fact you could now say that Lovie has made it OFFICIAL!

  10. Isaac Says:

Anyone offended by that rant isn’t dog enough to play in the NFL. Forces guys to look inside and see if they’re one of those guys who doesn’t care enough

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

seems like Jameis just “lesie Fraziered” lovie. Will Jameis call defensive plays next year??? what other jobs will Jameis do that lovie was supposed to do!!!!!!

  12. Espo Says:

This rreminds me of a conversation between Sapp and Brooks according to Buccaneer lore. Chris Berman called us the Suckaneers on air and Sapp let the name calling get to him. It’s the only time I can think of lack of maturity fueling something amazing.

  13. Vincente Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan
You are right. This is a defining moment for this franchise. I’m proud of Winston for stirring things up. Sad it took a rookie to light a fire under these guys.

  14. NashvilleBuc Says:

    There’s also a 4th possibility:
Winston’s words have no affect on the outcome of games. The team begins to tune him out and Winston begins to unravel emotionally and regress on the field. Eventually his play is blamed for the losses and he is shipped out.

I don’t think that will happen, but if it could happen anywhere it’d be Tampa.

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

How many of us have been waiting patiently for the emergence of a strong leader? Jameis is the leader we need! He is proving that he will be the one to lead us into a winning season. I think he bottled so much inside until he finally decided not to throw himself under the bus any longer.

It’s shape up or ship out time!

    You go Jameis!

  16. Vincente Says:

    @nashvillebuc
Look the QB position is the most important position on the field. Winstons confidence level and resilience are unmatched by no one on this team. He has cemented his place in this organization. When he speaks players better listen. I back Winston 1000%. He is the BUCS future.

  17. Patrick in VA Says:

I can’t imagine that he hasn’t had similar conversations behind closed doors with the team. It’s not like this is a surprise coming from him. It was the last game of the season. He didn’t have the “rookie” tag on him anymore so none of the problem children in the locker room can dismiss him as just a rookie that should keep his mouth shut. He broke team records and is the example of what every one of them should be aspiring to. Instead of him coming in and searching for a veteran to show him the ropes, he’s had to come in and disrupt the losing mentality that our veterans have allowed to take over the locker room. It’s unfortunate, but I’m glad that Jameis has the backbone to stand up and lead the way. It’s been long overdue. I’m done with hearing about community outreach projects. I’m tired of hearing about how many hours everyone is putting in. I’m ready to see not only wins but a winning culture. Even if we lose, I want the other team to know they were in a fight and I want them to have to earn the wins they get from us. No more extra bye weeks when they see the Bucs on the schedule. Just get it done

  18. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Imagine Sapp trying to explain playing hungry to GMC in their private talks.

GMC is solid Scottie Pippen, which is still a feat. But, the line needs a Jordan.

  19. grafikdetail Says:

Big Dog and former Buc Stephen White thinks Winston “needs to STFU” and “mind his business” when i pointed out to White that his boy GMC said pretty much the same thing last November & he blocked me LOL

  20. tnew Says:

Love and Warrick…agree 100%.. The problem is the pay structure with GMC. Hard to find a Jordan when the Pippen is making 50% more than the number two player on the squad.

My favorite part about this was, given the time to reflect, his resolve remained. Most players, rookie or not, would have reacted to the criticism of a few and softened their stance blaming the “heat of the moment” or some such nonsense.

Jameis showed resolve. I disagree with those saying he needs to “pipe down”. He is who he is. He doesn’t just talk, he leads by example. If he was yelling about work and hanging out in the bars and missing meetings, that would be one thing. He’s been the first one at work on day one. All of his critics demanded he act like a “professional”. From the outside looking in, he is one of the few that is fulfilling the rigors that it takes to win.

  21. Buccfan37 Says:

Jameis can bang the drum of unacceptability all he wants. It helps to take the impetus off of Lovie as a failed leader of the team. It’s a shame that the coaching is unable to put a competitive team on the field. Jameis, you may be fed up with the putrid effort of your team but overlooking the obvious failure at the top is disingenuous.

  22. No better way to say it Says:

Lovie , Koetter , Licht and Winston all need to sit down and discuss all of these players who are just collecting paychecks. Then Lovie , Koetter and Licht need to have a meeting with those players to tell them to get with the program or get gone.

  23. kraymuthaphukinglocz Says:

I just want my bucs to WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. godzilla13 Says:

How come Joe did not ask Jameis if his comments were directed at GMC? If Jameis wants to call players out, he should be prepared to say there names or don’t say anything. It’s not Jameis place to do this.

  25. godzilla13 Says:

Would any of this be happening if Bill Belichick was the Coach?
