Joe is live in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl

Yes, JoeBucsFan.com is live in Hawaii with the five Buccaneers practicing for Sunday’s Pro Bowl.

Yesterday was Joe’s time to talk to America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Jameis was extremely laid back and relaxed, not his usual in-season self. Hey, why not? It’s Hawaii and Jameis told Joe he’s been doing nothing but relaxing since the regular season ended.

Of course, Joe asked Jameis about the head coaching change from Lovie Smith to Dirk Koetter. Jameis had been silent publicly — until yesterday.

“I love, love Coach Dirk,” Jameis said. “Obviously, I loved Coach Lovie, as well. That’s just this business. I just play football. But I’m very anxious to see how we going to do things next year.

Joe asked Jameis whether he’s spoken to Lovie since the firing. The answer might get those who never believed Lovie was an integral part of Jameis’ life and development to shut up.

“I called him, you know, because he gave me the opportunity to play in this league. Him, in particular, he was very outspoken about me being in the NFL,” Jameis said. “You know, and I got kind of close with him, just what he did for me, he gave me a chance to play in this league. So I’m pretty sure I’m going to keep in contact with him. He’s a tremendous guy.”

It’s interesting and telling that Jameis wants to keep in touch with Lovie. What a great thing that would be.

Lovie’s endless and almost blind optimism surely helped carry Jameis through tough times. It could be there for him again.

And Jameis clearly knows how many anti-Jameis voices Lovie fought off (Yes, you, Father Dungy) to draft him.

Stick with Joe all day and through the weekend for more out of Hawaii.

I’m very jealous lol wish I could be there Jameis makes everything more fun enjoy 😊🏈

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is no question that Lovie was an important part of Jameis’ entry into the NFL and his development…..it’s not for any of us to decide that….it’s all for Jameis to determine.
Lovie Smith is a great guy…..good role model and now an ex coach…..

  3. Mike Johnson Says:

Time to move on. We will see shortly whether this new regime is a bust or spot on. Some think the right decision was made, some not. No hiding in this NFL. You are what your record says you are. I’ll withhold praises until I see positive results on the field. Every regime has its hype. And this new one is full of it. But that’s all it is until they prove to us Bucs fan they can win. Coulda/Woulda/Shoulda..all fodder for talk with fans and sportswriters. The proof is in the pudding. And the pudding is yet to be made. I’ve learned over many years not to get my hopes up to high for the Bucs team. Lest you be let down..hard. Real hard.

  4. Bucco Brice Says:

Please don’t bash Father Dungy anymore…Bucs owe a lot to him…I was with Dungy on the Jameis thing only because of the Jameis character issues, not his talent..Sure that’s what Dungy was looking at too…

  5. Jeagan1999 Says:

I’m sure Lovie IS a great guy. He is just not the right head coach to lead this team forward. I wish him well in his future endeavors.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    @joe

Any chance of asking Jameis, that after a much deserved vacation, is he planning on working with a strength/mechanic’s coach??? Some of the best QB’s have done this with great results and ( amazing that with a stronger grip how easy the spiral comes then players can dial back the pressure from the shoulder, thus reducing ware and tear!!)

    Go Bucs!!!!!

  7. Trubucfan22 Says:

All he said was he gave him the opportunity in this league. Im pretty sure most head coaches would have done that. Still not buying it. And definitely won’t shut up about it if you dont.

  8. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    wear and tear

    🏈 😛

  9. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Dungy might not have wanted Winston…but the guy he did want isn’t bad either. Kind of hinders the sideways insults a bit, doesn’t it?

  10. StPeteBucsFan Says:

We will see shortly whether this new regime is a bust or spot on.

This is what we’re talking about Mike. It truly sounds like you’re rooting against Koetter and his staff….Some here are skeptical and I get that…but as Buc fans wouldn’t they say…well I think we’ll do well…HOPE we’ll do well but you never know and we’ve been disappointed before.

See shortly? Define short…it’s seven months until the first game is even played!!!

And so if DK win’s 3 his first year and 8 his second..an improvement over Lovie would you even concede it was an improvement.

Bottom line…short? We won’t even be able to have this discussion for another two and a half years. Let’s see DKand Licht’s record then. If it’s not better than Lovies then they should be run out of town.

But I’m not expecting that and I’m not spending my time in negativity imagining what it will be like if Koetter fails. I don’t have to imagine…I’ve already seen it with Lovie..Schiano and Rah!

  11. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Just for the record…Dungy would not have taken Sapp and Dungy benched Lynch when he first arrived. If TD’s guy from KC hadn’t hurt himself who knows how the Lynch benching would have worked out.

TD is a class act. He clearly turned this franchise around with his even hand.
But TD was a horrid HC from the offensive perspective…and he clearly doesn’t have a great eye for talent.

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

Look, there are just some “fans” that will not be happy and will wish the current regime to fail, until a 199X’s tie is back in charge!! Even though Lovie was going to finish 4th in the division for the 3rd straight time, they will nitpick and slander anything at One Buc! they will only be happy until Mark Alstott or Monte Kiffen’s Grandson is head coach!!! The war with the Tampa2 mafia is coming!!!

    The “real” fans must unite!!!
    Go Bucs!!!!

  13. StPeteBucsFan Says:

LMAO….what a difference a month can make eh Realist.

Now we are on the same side! Imagine that,

BTW Last night I ate my crow without salt and pepper. I said after watching that final four game collapse to bookend against that amazing disaster to start the season that I was wrong and you and Dallas and Couch were right,

  14. LargoBuc Says:

I’ve said before that Lovie did a good job with Jameis. He easily could’ve benched Jameis or fabricated a competition. He could have limited how much of the playbook he took in. He could have had Jameis on 24/7 lockdown due to the media portraying him as a monster. He could have told Dirk not to let him scramble and just ruin his game, because it wasnt “pro style” to scramble. There are alot of wrongs that could have happened, but they didnt, and I have to side with Joe here. Jameis Winston might have been the only thing Lovie got right, but he got it right. And im grateful for that. But now we got Dirk, and maybe, just maybe, we can win consistently with Dirk and Mike and Licht having 100% control of football operations.

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie is a great guy and all that. If he was coming back next year the outlook this far out from the season start would be depressing. There are few words left to describe why Lovie did not fit, it’s all been said before. The overwhelming majority of fans supported a new approach. Smarter heads prevailed.

  16. VeeJay24 Says:

Hey Joe, I noticed that you always mention Dungy when it comes to who didn’t want Jameis; besides the fact that he has the right to his opinion,it seems as if you’re have an axe to grind. If so then you need to swing that axe at your boy John Lynch who you seem to have given a pass. Which I don’t understand; this guy basically went out throwing I told you so after one freakin game. I disagree with both but at least after one game Dungy said Jameis would be fine.

  17. DallasBuc Says:

    Awww, that’s sweet!
Can we play some decent football now please?

  18. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @realist
mark alstott, who’s Mark alstott Is chucky in the house?
Now lane kiffin Jr., that’s scary. Too funny!

  19. Bob in Valrico Says:

It is ironic that Lovie hired his replacement and the guy that had to let him go.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

StPeteBucfan…..I’m not rooting against Koetter. I’m just very Leary of all of the hype. Very much so. As stated before, this new regime has done nothing but smile and declare..a better team is coming. Ok..so show me. Then and only then will I say, the change was great and successful. For now though? its all just talk. And when and If..the bleeding (losing starts profusely), there will be..spins galore..as before. Sooo as a Bucs fan of 40 plus yrs…I’ve heard and seen it all with this franchise. Sure I’ll give Koetter his props as an OC. But not as a HC ..yet. Show me first. I’ll not give his new regime nothing until they WIN..period. And they are on the clock……tictoc tic toc.

  21. BigHogHaynes Says:

I’m a Buc fan and I say The BackStabbers are now in charge and just like LOVIE and his crew, if you don’t win, follow Lovue down the yellow brick road!

  22. Buccaneers Says:

Funny BigHog……. You are preaching this conspiracy. Meanwhile everybody in the locker room and everybody at One Buc has nothing to say about the sorts. All we hear from any Bucs is how it was a business decision.

You must really be in the know.

  23. Buccaneers Says:

Jameis loves Koetter and he loves Lovie.

Well Jameis, on behalf of all Bucs fans, we love you big guy!!!

  24. calibuclife Says:

I belive Tony Dingy is one of the great OVERRATED coaches in the NFL he beat Rex Grossman in a Superbowl wit Manning like he gets credit but what has he done he built our defense to respectability but never thought about offense

  25. ATrain Says:

Lovie did a lot to help Jamies to come into this league like lose a bunch of Games…

Hey is it sad that the Bucs sent 5 to the pro bowl but couldn’t beat St Louis or the Saints ….

How many PRO Bowlers does he needed…Maybe he cn find a couple in the couch…

    Go Bucs….

  26. BigHogHaynes Says:

Buccaneer Says, You don’t really expect any player on this team to speak freely on THE BACK STABBER TAKE-OVER do you?

  27. BigHogHaynes Says:

Don’t over look the first statement from LVD was about not being able to have the same coach for at least one more year! Then he was selected to the Pro Bowl to shut him up 😜 THE BACK STABBER CONSPIRACY RUNS DEEP!
