Teammate talks heckling

Once upon a time, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was handed an average-sized bag of crab legs by a Publix employee and walked out the front door without paying.

Jameis settled up with law enforcement and Publix, and put the incident behind him.

However, Mike Evans says fans of opposing teams won’t let go of the notorious $35 crustacean heist. It’s a favorite topic of heckling road fans.

“Everyone says something about crab legs,” Evans said. “I mean, that’s getting old. That gets old. That’s what we here every time. That sticks out. But I don’t really hear anything else.

“That’s the best they got. The No. 1 pick can buy, he can buy a crab store, he can buy whatever he wants. I mean, c’mon. Who cares?”

Evans went on to say Jameis ignores the heckling — and he will not allow teammates to respond to taunts directed Jameis’ way.

Essentially, Jameis tells all his fellow Bucs, “No sheep for you.”

Not unbelievable. You see it right here in the comment section of this site as well. There are a number of people who are still clinging to whatever they can find to detract from the talent and the character of Jameis. On both counts, the fodder available for those sorts to use is become more and more scarce. Not only has he shown himself to be an exemplary person that is not only going to stay out of trouble, but will be an asset to the Tampa Bay professional sports figure community. And his growing list of accolades, along with the recognition of national sports figures, has shown those awaiting Jameis to go the way of Jamarcus Russell for what they are, haters.

  2. Joe Cool Says:

Cam Newton stole laptops at UF and when campus PD came to his dorm room he threw them out the window obstructing justice. Now people don’t like him for dancing #society

  3. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

If you let hecklers get to you then you’re just being shellfish. I mean these hecklers act like Jameis is going to krill himself over this? They don’t realize he’s developed a hard outer shell…there should be a claws in his contract just for dealing with these people

  4. Newbucsfan2 Says:

What doesn’t kill ya makes you stronger. Maybe that’s why he plays best on the road… he responds by trying to kick their ass on field, where it will really hurts them. Good for you Jameis!

  5. LargoBuc Says:

Thats why I rarely go to national sites, espcisly espn. Between the moronic fans of other teams and even worse the narrative-agenda driven journalism, its just the epitome of ignorance.

  6. rayjay1122 Says:

I wonder how many hecklers have never stolen anything in their lives? Never collected wages for time spent on social Media or taking smoke breaks while on the clock or fudged numbers on their tax returns to get a larger refund? I am wagering none have never done wrong. There is another word for the hecklers and that is hypocrites.

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

There are much worse thing than a Publix assistant manager offering an athlete free King crab legs!!!

  8. Buxfan Says:

Rayjay, so true. I can confess to stealing. If I know a friend that worked in a restaurant. Yeah, sometimes they would give me something extra. We use to call it a hookup. Back in high school, I worked at a McDonald’s. I get bored, and go to the front and give out food. Wow, I’m such a bad guy.

  9. meh Says:

I think the crab legs stuff is funny. Even Winston encouraged it with that crab legs photo after he was drafted. No big deal, and it really was the most minor of transgressions.

    What did Licht say?

“There’s one thing that the nation and the people here in Tampa have learned over the last period of time is Jameis likes crab legs, for sure.”

  10. Espo Says:

Just embrace it, it’s funny. He’s ours. He obviously thought it was funny when he posted that pic after the draft. Why shouldn’t we?

One of my fantasy teams is the Crab Legs Plunderers.

  11. Espo Says:

    @Buxfan

You’re a turrible person but mostly I wish you were turrible at the McDonalds near my house.

  12. Couch Fan Says:

I hope the heckling continues, Jameis is the type of guy that will feed off that and will be better because of it.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

Winston literally has similar character traits to a young Alexander the Great. Lol, I’m serious: Alexander at age 21 was a superior field general, leader of men, fighter and diplomat.
(Although 6 or 7 years later, after he conquered the world, he went crazy and became a murdering, capricious, insecure drunkard. Hopefully Winston can age more gracefully than Alexander did.)

    /History Lesson

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

Your past always follows you when you are in the publics eye. This is the way society is. Hell, I stole 5 comic books when I was 14 and went on to become
a business man. But then again, nobody knew. I paid with a jail stay and a whippin from my dad..who was on the police force. I never did that again!!
But I’m not Jameis either. Once his rape case is cleared. And he will be found innocent, good play and time will erase those memories. Let he/she without sin..cast the first stone.

  15. Supersam Says:

There is actually and emoji sports app, and It has several athletes all doing someone silly, of course they have Winston wearing a crab legs bib with hearts in his eyes, it’s pretty sad.

Or least get us to the Super Bowl before that happens:)

  17. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

We have a new winner in the “I love Jameis more than you” contest. That would be Howard Cosell for comparing him to Alexander the Great. SMH.

  18. Howard Cosell Says:

    Jameis the Great?

  19. GerbilsGoneWild Says:

I wonder if he got butter too?

  20. milenko Says:

Joe you should post the photo I took in Atlanta the last game. Fools taking pictures of two guys wearing crab hats. Morons.

  21. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The crab legs heckling is really no big deal and part of the territory.
We are sensitive here because it was just part of a larger story and combined with charges of other indiscretions.

But at the end of the day even non Jameis fans look at taking crab legs as a youthful prank. And those who know how college football towns actually work understand that this was actually more of a misunderstanding than simple theft.
It’s not just Tallahassee or Gainesville or Tuscaloosa and Oxford…Columbus treats their Buckeyes like heroes and provides plenty of ‘free” stuff as do the folks in Lansing and Ann Arbor.

I’m happy they’re concentrating on the crab legs…even #3 joked about that on draft night. It’s not big deal.

Thankfully we’re not getting the kind of heckling Greg Hardy deservedly gets and do we not remember all the Ben Rapelesberger signs that used to follow the Steelers QB on the road.

  22. BucTrooper Says:

Peyton Manning showed his naked rear end to a trainer at UT and had to settle a sexual harassment suit.

  23. Cat Says:

These fans heckling Jamie’s have people on their teams that are far worse. If He wants them to stop he should shut them up on the field
