“This Is Jameis”

Gushing over Jameis.

The flags were waving and the patriotic songs were sung at full throat as Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter had a lovefest talking about America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston this afternoon.

Koetter discussed how there is both good and bad with Jameis, and you have to enjoy the full package. There’s a whole lot of good and very little bad. And the little bad, Koetter said, can be smoothed out and overcome.

One of Jameis’ greatest attributes is his drive to win. And Koetter said the Bucs jumped on Jameis’ emotional backside to beat the Dixie Chicks late on Sunday.

“It definitely affected our team, yes,” Koetter said about Jameis’ emotion, both the good and the bad. “I would actually say Jameis was a little too emotional at the start of the game. I thought Jameis got off to a little bit of a slow start and missed a couple of throws he can definitely make.

“With that said, Jameis’ competitive spirit showed up more in this game than it has. When we were drafting Jameis and doing our homework and talking to Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State [folks], they told us, ‘This is Jameis.’

“Jameis drove us in that overtime. Those plays he was making on third down, and throughout the game, some of the plays he made with his feet – we have to throw it better – but the plays he made with his feet and his competitive plays were fantastic.”

In particular, Koetter raved about Jameis’ touchdown run, which was “100 percent improvised,” a busted play but Jameis read the defense perfectly and reacted at just the right time to turn a near-disaster into six points.

Koetter reminded the local pen and mic club, “We have to remember how young this guy is and that he only played two years of college football.” And while Jameis’ mechanics aren’t perfect, Koetter said those are correctable but “you just don’t fix that in five minutes.”

Every week that goes by, I’m more and more convinced that Jameis is the answer.

He has the look of a franchise quarterback, a top five player in the game and a guy that will lead this team for the next 10-15 years.

    We. Are. Lucky.

  2. DB55 Says:

Jameis gets better as the game goes on. Next year will be a SB run for Jameis even if he has to score 60 points per game. Screen shot this.

  3. Chris Armstrong Says:

I love it! I look forward not just to the weeks to come, but seeing him develope over the next several years into an outstanding QB! Go Jameis, and Go Bucs! Great write up Joe!

  4. Bama Rich Says:

I’m excited about the future as well. Wish V-Jac was 5 years younger.

  5. PRBucFan Says:

What Lovie lacks in motivation, JW makes up for in boatloads.

  6. PRBucFan Says:

Hoping Kenny Bell works out to be the player he was drafted to be.

Early on in TC he looked the part.

  7. Greg Says:

Kids getting better, hope he has some weapons to throw to this week.

  8. Getaclue Says:

Really wish we would bring jacoby jones in,he is better than what we have after evans

  9. tmaxcon Says:

You can teach the will to win! Some have it some just have the will to cash a check.

  10. Cover deuce Says:

I really wish you’d drop the “Americas Quarterback” schtick. I’m an FSU grad and I fully supported us drafting him, not a Jameis hater in the slightest, but the moniker reeks of homerism.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It was pretty impressive what Jameis was able to do…..

No Vjax, No ASJ, No Murphy, Beat up Evans…..Running game mostly stopped…..still marched down the field in OT for chip shot…..

  12. Newbucsfan Says:

    Nice pic.

  13. Newbucsfan Says:

Btw..any other girl posters on JBF besides me? Go Bucs!

  14. Buc1987 Says:

@kaput…I don’t know about the words lucky and Bucs in the same sentence. We did go through hell last season to get him. Last season was worth it right now. Check back in 2 years and see how worth it that it was.

@DB55…screenshot this from way back in March before the draft even took place.

“Jameis Winston will win a Super Bowl within the first 3 years of entering the NFL, whether it be with the Bucs or another team.”

I’ll still stand by that prediction even IF Lovie gets fired.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Newbucsfan…YES from my knowledge ONLY 1 other one. Elle.

  16. Newbucsfan Says:

“Jameis Winston will win a Super Bowl within the first 3 years of entering the NFL, whether it be with the Bucs or another team.”

Amen to that! Let’s hope it’s with the Bucs! Didn’t he sign a 5 year contract? I don’t think he’ll want to go anywhere else. Last to First, I think he digs the challenge!

  17. Newbucsfan Says:

    Well, hello Elle:)!!

  18. Red86 Says:

Not surprised by Jameis. I wanted him since the Clemson game during his first year at FSU. He has a contagious personality that make people run through wall, because he inspire them that they can make it.

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

While I’m not ready to crown him America’s QB yet…not enough people have seen him…I am with Celly! We should rechristen the stadium…Fameis James stadium.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

I’ll put it in more simplified terms for ya. Jameis is a gift from the football Gods. He’s the present they gave us for the last decade or more of the suffering. Never thought I’d see the day that my (our) team could possibly have a true franchise QB on their hands. It’s only been what over 35 years now? The time has finally arrived as far as I’m concerned. I said back in pre-season, Jameis will make every Buc fan know that he was the right pick by mid-season. By the end of the season everyone will love this kid.

Still…every once and awhile I have to pinch myself, then shake my head in wonder that we actually got this kid I’ve wanted on this team since 2013. It’s still too early to judge, but he’s on the right track right now.

  21. Joe Cool Says:

Yea, but those off the field issues though…. XD

  22. HarlemBuc Says:

JoeLovers!!! It’s finally here… Giants vs Bucs! I need this sooooo bad!!! I got my first film coming out the week after a Bucs win would shut up all my friends and motivate me sooooo much!!! Let’s go Jameis!!! And the D needs to
    Force a bad Eli game!!!

  23. Crabdogg Says:

A franchise qb, think about that. Not having to worry about the QB position because it is locked down for 12-15 years…could you imagine? It looks like a real possibility. I think his head is on straight enough not to crush the team with his second contract either. That said the next 3 drafts will be critical to hit on as that will be the core he plays with for the inevitable run. America’s QB…not yet, but its not far fetched either.

  24. HarlemBuc Says:

Tmax, newbuc, 1987… Where yall at?! All my summer time posters!!!

  25. Buc1987 Says:

A JBF poster posted this the other day in here for Joe and I think this is the appropriate place to actually re-drop this VERY good video. Think this isn’t Winston’s team? Watch the video.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Harlem…I’m still here. This is my home man. There’s only 2 things that really matter in life to me. 1. Family 2. The Tampa Bay Bucs thee end. My health? Well the hell with all that anyways.

  27. DB55 Says:

    REJOICING!!!!

  28. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

But 87, you’re forgetting about CRAB LEGS!!!

Also, he got into a BB gun fight and possibly his most egregious offense — he didn’t go to Chicago for the draft. Just despicable. He’s also so fat. I mean just look at that picture and tell me that’s not Professor Klump

Just a reminder that those were all reasons used by the haters that we should not have drafted the first franchise QB in Buccaneers history

  29. Buc1987 Says:

Crabdogg…After Jameis signed his first contract. The press asked him what he’s going to do with all that money now. His answer went something like this : It’s not about the money, the money’s for my family, I just want to play football and win some games.

    That’s Jameis Winston!

  30. Buc1987 Says:

    CreamsicleBananaHammock…lol red flags galore!

  31. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

JUST WAIT UNTIL HE GETS PAIIIIIIDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. HarlemBuc Says:

@Joe, I missed you too man

  33. LongSeasons Says:

I still say it will be next year before those mechanics are fixed. I am starting to be impressed with Jameis.

  34. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Also, remember that one time Jimbo yelled at Jameis? Obviously that proves he’s a headcase and uncoachable.

  35. DB55 Says:

    87

Didn’t you see the vid of JW from high school? It was on BR might still be there. The kid is soooo nasty.

  36. grafikdetail Says:

PRBucFan i really wanted Stephon Diggs in the 5th round but Minnesota got to him first… he’s having a killer year so far
    ——
for all the crap people say about winston thru this point in his rookie year his stats are better than Luck or Manning in their 1st 7 games

  37. Pick6 Says:

only took 40 years for the bucs to catch a good break at the QB position

  38. Buc1987 Says:

CreamsicleBananaHammock…did you see that hot head Matt Ryan throwing a tantrum on the sideline on Sunday slamming his helmet on the bench having a tantrum. There’s just no place for stuff like that on an NFL sideline.

  39. DB55 Says:

When you play to win stuff like that happens. Brady is always yelling at someone refs, coaches, players it doesn’t matter. Thats one of the main problems with the bucs they always cut Winners With Attitudes like Bennett, Blount, Talib, etc. you can’t have these “cancers” in the lockerroom.

    Perpetual Fail!

  40. Newbucsfan Says:

    Hey Harlem 🙂

Not sure if that was me that you mentioned in your shoutout, if so, I’m here! Still ticking and kicking, even though I think I have had several mini heart attacks watching our team play each Sunday! Even so, Sunday can’t get here soon enough for me!’ Go bucs! Hey and I get to wear my throw back Jameis/bucs shirt:) the one JWs daddy wore…too cool! Again, Go bucs!!

  41. Newbucsfan Says:

    Ps Harlem
And I’m loving the “love” JW is now receiving! Didn’t take him long to turn that ship around, did it? 🙂

  42. Buccfan37 Says:

Jameis has looked better, that’s an understatement. The knack for breaking a successful run is evident.

  43. cmurda Says:

Jameis is the real deal. Even those people vehemently against JW and in MM’s corner have begun to see the light. My concern is Dye. Dude, where the heck are you. The guy started the last 2 games and aside from a 7 yard TD has been invisible. I really hope V Jax and ASJ can go because this week against the Giants has the feel of a shootout coming.

  44. C. Alaka Says:

I’ll say this Joe, if the Bucs & Jaboo play great on Sunday to beat the Giants then Bucs will become nation headlines…there’s no better way to get noticed than to be talked about all thru the media on Monday back pages…this game more than any other could bring the Bucs to the spotlight!

  45. Newbucsfan Says:

    Big Irish

Good advice..hadn’t thought of that one!

  46. Owlykat Says:

We need Jameis’ passion on Defense too! Unfortunately did you see McCoy’s defeatist body language during the coin toss for overtime? The passion for the Defense was the marvelous plays by our inspired MLB. I have criticized Lovie here a number of times but he deserves Kudo’s for his decision to play with a Rookie starting at MLB when he knew there would be a big learning curve there when he also knew Carter could look better initially there. It took some guts to do that decision but it has now paid big dividends and the Kid can ignite our D not by his words but by his leadership by his inspiring plays on the field. Smith will be a double digit sacker this year but we still need to get another one with our first pick next year. With the fiery leadership on Offense and Defense Lovie will not only keep his job but will be able to build a dynasty with the Buc’s as I predicted he would when he was hired!!!

  47. Eric Says:

Great job of drafting him Mr. Lovie Smith.

And going out and hiring a good OC and QB coach to work with him.

All bucs fans should be grateful.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Great job of drafting Mr. Licht. Hope you get to stay when Lovie’s gone.

  49. Eric Says:

    Lovie also hired Licht……….

  50. Buc1987 Says:

Yes Eric…but don’t EVER tell that to SOME Buc fans, they think Licht calls more shots than Lovie when it comes to this team.

Some of you Lovie Lovers are really going to be brought back down to Realityville and soon too. Hope the landing isn’t so rough for you. For me I’ve already accepted and figured out the inevitable. Not saying that you’re dummies, maybe a little slow, maybe a little blind, perhaps a little homerish, but anyways good luck with the landing.

Reality is the conjectured state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined. In a wider definition, reality includes everything that is and has been, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible.

  51. Lamdog Says:

Pick 6: The Bucs had several good Qbs over the years, to include a Super Bowl winning Qb (Doug Williams). I’m not saying God a Tampa fan, only 1 win from Winston being in Tn. The odds the Bears would fire a coach that went 10-6. Tampa would fire it’s coach and Gm. Some people are blessed beyond, Jameis is one. As a Winston fan not a Bucs fan: pure joy.

That being said Kudos to the Front Office for building what could be one of the best O-lines by seasons end. I had hope the line would be better, did not see this coming.
