No Evans On Game-Winning Drive

Diversity paid off just in time for Dirk Koetter’s offense

Finally, finally, finally, the Bucs flashed a passing game today that didn’t feature Mike Evans. And it arrived just in time.

The telling nine-play, 56-yard, game-winning drive didn’t feature one completion to Evans.

Hats off to Donteea Dye for making three guys miss en route to a first down on a critical second down. Brandon Myers made up for his bad drop earlier with a 17-yard catch that put the Bucs in the red zone. Charles Sims and Doug Martin split touches, and Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, put the game away — after nearly choking it away.

Joe’s big point here is that the Bucs offense has to do more to get more guys involved while they wait for Vincent Jackson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins to return.

Dye and Adam Humprhies have to be trusted a little bit more for the Bucs to stay balanced. It’s even more important since Evans isn’t exactly reliable, though he had only one bad drop today.

Stick with Joe through the afternoon for plenty from the Bucs’ happy locker room.

Thank-you Dez Bryant for having no heart….

Thank Cowboy D for the end zone hold……

    Christmas comes early in Tampa!

  2. ApacheBucsAttack Says:

But f-ing time we benched Mike Clayton on the most important drive. Thank you

  3. Bucnut2 Says:

Joe’s this week ME was just fine. problem was and IS Americas QB throwing late, behind and high

  4. Bucballya Says:

Dez Bryant got a taste of his own medicine on the def. pushoff. I really like Humpries, reminds me of a young Wes Welker.

  5. Bucnut2 Says:

Oh BTW for the Lovie haters. America’s QB had 2 almost 3 turnovers. D- overcame JW mistakes

  6. Bucballya Says:

    Humphries

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m glad Jerry Jones watched the game live. Nice finish Bucs! lol

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe….you’re not calling the high pass off Myers hands for the interception…..a bad drop are you?…….maybe ASJ catches that but not Myers…..the pass was high….

  9. Formerly GlennonGrad Says:

Winston got the W today. Mariota did not. The D got lucky with some non calls and Bryant drops.
    @bucnut2

  10. IndyBucaFan Says:

FUCH YOU Bucnut2! Its about damn time the D won us a game! Prolly a cowboys fan…

  11. tb Says:

Evans did his job today one bad drop. The play calling got better.

  12. James Walker Says:

Jeez, we won with a rookie qb and people are mad?

  13. Clearwater Wes Says:

Even the sun shines on a dog’s ass once in awhile.

  14. DraftJameis Says:

LOVED Dez pulling a Mike Evans on the final play. How you let Dez over the top however, I don’t know, and they got lucky that they didn’t get burned because of it. That being said, 4-5 baby!

  15. Bucnut2 Says:

Hey look everyone JW is not an accurate QB. Never has been. Simple as that

  16. Bucnut2 Says:

FGG- surely you are joking. The Titans played an undefeated team, the Bucs a 2-6 team. no comparison. If you want to wear rose colored glasses ok. At least make a reasonable point.

  17. GhostofSchiano Says:

I was at the game today, only complaint, pass rush. Cassell had a decent pocket for a lot of plays. If they had Romo, could have been different results.

  18. Buddah Says:

Get off Mike Evans back. Yes he had one drop he should have caught. he also abused the Cowboys secondary. They couldn’t cover him with three guys trying, two had to leave the game early. The guy is a stud. Without him, they’re not even in this game.

  19. Buddah Says:

They didn’t bench Mike Evans. They just realized that if three guys are guarding Evans someone else might be open.

  20. GhostofSchiano Says:

Bring on the eagles. Go Bucs!!!!!

  21. Rob Says:

A wins a win and beating even a sorry cowgirl team with JJ losing it is priceless. Deal with the effing stupid penalties and stop “America’s turnover machine” from giving the ball up and we will win lots of games. We are sooooooooo lucky after “America’s turnover machine” drops the ball on his way to scoring a sure touchdown. Respect the football because you won’t win many games when you are careless. We were lucky against a sorry team. Go Bucs!

  22. Brent Says:

@buddha I agree. Clearly me has some work to do but he was an asset today. 8 catches 3 pass interference calls 100+ yards I’ll take that any day. 1 drop. Jw had a bad day but he has no help. Need Vjax Murphy

  23. "TheKevin" Says:

    3 drops not 1

  24. Brent Says:

No, 1 was defended cb knocked it out of hands. Even commentators said so.

  25. cmurda Says:

I hear a lot about our luck in this game but have you not watched the last 4 years? Luck has not been on our side. We were due. That holding against the Boys on the Winston fumble was really a hold. In fact, it could have been called on either of the 2 defenders on the man.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yes….it’s about time we have some good luck….Evans played a great game….made several great catches…..was covered…..wore out the Cowboys secondary.
Winston did a good job of spreading it around on the last drive. They had stopped our run all day….other players stepped up.

And….anyone who wants to bitch about a defense that gives up 6 points…..be my guest….

  27. Buc4lyfe Says:

Let’s not dog JW’s performance too much. He is only playing with one WR or TE that would start on any other team. BTW, the fublesaurus in Tenn didn’t pay very well either.

  28. GhostofSchiano Says:

Not bitching about the D Tampa bay bucsfan, just pointing out an area of concern. A healthy Romo and Bryant could have made a difference. We need a DE to step up and become that threat of the edge we have not had since Simeon Rice.

  29. GhostofSchiano Says:

    OFF the edge. Sorry

  30. Monk Says:

Humphrey = Wes Welker. Need to use him more.

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @cmurda

Luck has not been on our side. We were due.

Amen brother. And if we’re going to talk about luck how about the INCHES #3 and the ball needed to travel for a TD. Did you see where the ball came down?
A few more inches and #3 would have broken the plane.

I can’t believe all the whining here. Yes #3 has accuracy issues. He’s always played baseball along with football. Those days are over and he’ll sharpen his throwing skills in the off season. He is clearly a franchise QB!

The OL was down one of it’s best players…#1 WR out..TE..out..#3 WR out
    Where are the targets?

Brandon Myers did something I’ve been waiting for a long time. Somebody needs to make a play at a critical juncture..he did.

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    “Humphrey = Wes Welker.”

    ——-

SMH. Love Humphries, but my goodness what a stupid statement that is. Seriously dude, just stop.

  33. Dave Says:

Evans had a great game. He was a decoy at the end.
I love what I am seeing out of Dye and Humphries. Both look like good slot guys when VJsx gets back.
I’d like to see more passes go their way.
