Time To Retire “Milk Cartons”

October 12th, 2015
No longer a rumored member of Bucs roster.

No longer a rumored member of Bucs roster.

Reviewing the first draft of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, Joe scoffed at the two offensive linemen drafted in the fifth round, Kevin Pamphile and Kadeem Edwards.

Joe couldn’t remember a play or a block either of them made. Thus, Joe dubbed the duo the “Milk Cartons,” because Joe was certain the only place you could find them was in the grocery store dairy section.

Edwards is no longer with the Bucs, and Joe was certain Pamphile was on his way out until he showed up big time yesterday.

You hardly knew left guard Logan Mankins missed the game injured. Pamphile, playing guard for the first time since his sophomore year at Purdue, didn’t play perfect football but he sure played well enough that there shouldn’t be any wringing of hands if he has to play again.

Joe talked to Pamphile after the game, and he told Joe he knew his offensive line assignments and all he had to worry about was technique.

It worked.

So now that Joe has seen Pamphile make an impact on a win, a win at home no less, it is time to retire the “Milk Cartons” nickname.

Because it no longer fits.

Let’s not crazy about the OL. They did a good job of run blocking because of all the people we kept in. For the most part we were only able to send two wr into patterns. We need ASJ back badly.

    Good gesture…Pamphile earned it

  3. Buc Neckid Says:

So Next Year’s Starting OLINE could be:
    LT – D. Smith
    LG – K. Pamphile
    C – J. Hawley
    RG – A. Marpet
    RT – D.Dotson

Draft a Center in the Low Rounds to groom to take over Hawley’s spot or for depth
and that is a GOOD and YOUNG OLINE to protect Jameis for years to come

  4. Buc Neckid Says:

Still need a Good Blocking tight end though

  5. Buc1987 Says:

Give rookies 3 years, unless it’s that obvious.

  6. LutzBuczFan Says:

Check out Marpet drive his guy past the linebackers on the goal line TD that Martin jumped in. Martin leaped over the void Marpet created. Pamphile was getting penetration too. Hawley just kinda stood there.

Still dwelling on the past. But imagine if we still had Zuttah… Go Bucs!

Yep. Charles Sims was labeled a bust and has been a pretty big asset this year (only his 2nd year). Pamphile labeled a milk carton and is a viable starting OG potentially. ASJ = injury prone thus far but so was Gerald McCoy through his first couple years. He’s definitely flashed playmaking ability already though.

I feel like we have 8 potential impact players in 2 drafts which is about as good as it gets:

Mike Evans / ASJ / Sims / Pamphile
    Winston / Smith / Marpet / Kwon

  9. Another J Says:

The O-line looks better without Mankins, and EDS!

I bought my Winston Jersey finally my brother he went with the M.E but it was hard to decide between the red or white !!! Went with the red.

I think we move D. Smith in to left guard, draft a real left tackle who can really move there feet , slide Ali over to center , put Pamphile to right guard and leave Dot at right tackle. When they do that our offensive line will be a real handful for whoever

  12. LargoBuc Says:

Cornelius, after the game in Houston I dubbed Simms a bust. So glad I was wrong 🙂

  13. Buc Neckid Says:

    1nebuc
    Not a bad thought
at least we have the Young Horses to do so

  14. Nick Says:

I move 1nebuc stops playing musical chairs

it says alot about what mankins no longer is. obviously above the shoulders there is not another OL even close to his level, but from the neck down the OL may have actually been a more competitive unit without Mankins. clearly he has a role to play in helping a young bunch of athletes on the OL learn NFL protection schemes, but his physical talents were not hard to replace

  16. Nick Says:

How do you judge ANYONE a Bust in year one? much less game 3? come on people

  17. Jason McLaurin Says:

I think Pamphile looks to be more suited at guard as well as D. Smith. I think ultimately when Dotson is healthy he will and should return as the teams left tackle and let Cherilus or Fragel play right tackle. Let Marpet start at center an all of a sudden Warhop has created anall pro line. I still think they should draft a more suitable ttackles with the first two picks in next years draft. Fragel may be another quality starter though I seen him make some timely blocks too and he can play right tackle. Pamphile deserves to start though at either guard position though immediately.

  18. BoJim Says:

    Cool. Retire them!!

  19. SoCoBuc Says:

Thinking that the offensive line is coming together is pretty awesome. I haven’t been able to watch games but from what I’ve been reading and listening to, it sounds like they’re getting better. Fragel sounds like he’s been doing well at a gradual pace. What’s the situation with Warren. He seemed to do we’ll during the preseason. Smith has been steadily growing as a left tackle.

    LT: Smith
    LG: Pamphile
    C: Hawley/Warren
    RG: Marpet
    RT: Dotson/Fragel

I definitely believe that the line still needs work but don’t think needing to draft in the first few rounds. If the team can find a few developmental players/gems at tackle and guards for depth. It’s crazy what was once seen as a gaping hole in the team is steadily becoming a serviceable group. The offense is coming into its own now the team needs focus on the defense. If licht can do what he did with the defense, what he did with drafting the offense, the team could be really coming together.

I’m excited to see how this line continues to develop. At some point should the team consider going with the younger guys starting? It would help with their development and working on their cohesiveness. With the vets, let them rest and fully heal. They can be good backups.

Donovan Smith played his best game against the Jags. He only got beat one time. The rest of the game he was pass blocking very well. When he gets in front of his opponent in the run game he simply mauls the guy. Saw him pancake a player early in the game. Kevin Pamphile played great. We need to figure out how to keep him in the starting line-up, he is only going to get better. Joe Hawley has the enthusiasm and can be intense at times but he can get thrown around like a rag doll against larger players. EDS does not get enough credit, especially in the run game. The thing I like about Ali Marpet and Donovan Smith is they get better each week. Really looking forward to seeing them perform next year with a years experience. Demar Dotson has been a top five RT the past two years and he will be a big improvement over Gosder Cherilus, who is past his prime. Reid Fragel is looking good as well. He was the blocker when Martin leaped over the top on the TD.
