13 Days And Counting

October 15th, 2015
Tense times for the Mike Glennon Mob.

Tense times for the Mike Glennon Mob.

A Bucs victory against the Washington Redskins on October 25 would mean a hell of a lot more than Tampa Bay evening its record at 3-3.

There are real draft picks at stake.

Joe’s talking about the looming NFL trade deadline on Oct. 28. If the Bucs beat the Skins, then they just can’t trade Mike Glennon. After all, the Bucs would be in a true playoff chase and a team can’t dump it’s good backup quarterback in that situation. That would be irresponsible.

Yes, Joe referenced the “P” word: playoffs. In the world of Lovie Smith and Jason Licht, they have to be thinking seriously about the postseason. That’s how those guys are wired.

So Joe is really focused on that Skins game. It means a lot.

If the Bucs lose there, then in addition to peddling Glennon, they also could comfortably dump guys like defensive tackle Henry Melton or Tony McDaniel, or Evan Smith or Demar Dotson. But if the Bucs are 3-3 and the playoff hunt, then that depth becomes too important.

And for the Mike Glennon Mob, guys, there’s a reason the Bucs have a third quarterback on the roster when Lovie hasn’t been a three-QB guy in his career. The finger is on the trigger waiting for the right offer.

Joe sure hopes some desperate team is willing to cough up fourth- and fifth-round picks for Glennon.

    Hey Joe(s)
    Here’s another “P” word

    P-uh-lease
    Playoffs really?!?!?!?

  2. Formerly GlennonGrad Says:

Hey Joe, have you seen the clickbait factories at NFL.com have already posted a “If the season ended today” mock draft? I’m sure that has you bouncing off the walls, especially the way they downtalked Donovan Smith and the relatively solid defensive line.

As for trading Glennon, it’s always a good idea to keep a good backup, case in point the Pittsburgh steelers, thriving off the success of a decent enough QB in Mike Vick. So I would say it isnt even a question until the trade deadline gets just a little bit closer, unless Dallas wants to give us a serviceable Olineman in exchange.

  3. poor glennon Says:

Playoffs hahaha. Anyone with the gift of sight. Can see we can only beat bottem feeders.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Joe has officially lost his mind

    Jim Mora “playoffs!?” “playoffs!?!”

Joe continues to wonder if readers actually read what’s written. –Joe

  5. DefenseRules Says:

Mike Glennon’s not going anywhere unless some team comes up with a great offer (1st or 2nd round), whether we’re already out of the playoff hunt or not. Griffin’s been running the scout team since arriving I’d bet, and no way he’s ready to take over for Jameis if he can’t play.

As for playoffs Joe, do you really think your 6-win forecast will get us there?

  6. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Matt Cassel and a 7th rounder were traded to the Bills for a 5th rounder. Essentially, the Cowboys moved back 2 rounds for Cassel.

On what planet will a team give up two draft picks for Mike freaking Glennon when Cassel was only worth a (very desperate) team moving back two rounds?

  7. Cobraboy Says:

    Playoffs!?!? Playoffs!?!?

  8. Nick Says:

It must be sad to be a fan of this team and totally discount any chance for hope. Why not hope for the playoffs? I prefer a Herman Edwards quote than the above referenced Jim Mora one, “You play to win the game”.

  9. DallasBuc Says:

Incompetent Lovie Smith just won his 1st home game in 11 tries against the JV Jaguars and 4th win in 21 tries among several league historic blowouts. The notion this lovable loser could have this football team prepared enough to win another game much less enough to make the playoffs is preposterous.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

Nick- it is sad. Very sad. You’re welcome.
    Regards-
    Incompetent Lovie Smith

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

Oh we of little hope. I don’t think so either. Playoffs that ain’t. The Bucs have stunk for so long that not stinking is out of the question. Color me skeptical. Playoffs? How about jackoffs.

  12. mike Says:

Maybe lict can pull off another masterful trade like last year… trading Jon C to the pats to move up ONE spot.

  13. LJ'sDaddy Says:

Love your site Joe. I visit it every day. But playoffs? That truly is a joke. And I did read what was written. I love the Bucs. But they have not shown me anything to believe they can make it to the playoffs.

  14. Rob Says:

There are 2 teams in the division that are undefeated. We’re not making the playoffs. And getting something of value for Glennon before he walks in free agency would only make sense. This team is at least 1 more really good draft away from being playoff worthy.

  15. DallasBuc Says:

Rob- they are at least 1 good coaching staff away from the playoffs.

  16. Formerly GlennonGrad Says:

LJ I don’t think you actually read, or at least not closely. 3-3 is in the playoff chase, does not mean we are in contention or even considered to be, just that we pose a possibly realistic shot.

Also he said that we would be pursuing a playoff berth because “In the world of Lovie Smith and Jason Licht, they have to be thinking seriously about the postseason. That’s how those guys are wired.”

Not because we pose serious aspirations, most of us know the legit run at the playoffs will be in a few seasons at best.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

This team has not beat a below average or average team only bottom feeding scum like themselves. One home win against a team you are supposed to beat is nothing to brag about especially when your defense crapped themselves again. It’s a disgrace to legit contenders to use the word playoff in any post that mentions laughable Lovie and his current team. Any win is a good win that being said beating the jags at home needs to be put in perspective especially considering the fumble touchdown gift they received.

Best they can hope for with glennon is a 5th. I did enjoy the laugh with the suggestion of a first or second for a 5-13 backup with a very limited ceiling…. pretty funny…

  18. DallasBuc Says:

tmaxcon- people unintentionally saying all sorts of funny sht today!

  19. BucTrooper Says:

While I did not and do not think this Bucs team is of playoff caliber, it certainly can get interesting come December. Some of the better teams in the NFC certainly look beatable. I’m not sold on Carolina. I’m not sold on Atlanta. I think it’s Green Bay and everyone else right now, regardless of record.

As a STH, all I want from this season is a reason to go to December games and that might happen. 3-3 with a beatable Giants team coming to Tampa could be huge.

  20. buc4life1979 Says:

    @Joe
Could you please explain why when Henry Melton is on a one year deal, Pretty sure Mcdaniel is too, and Dotson is under the most cap friendly aka underpaid contract for a veteran right tackle in the league. The reason for dumping these guys and gutting our much needed depth would be??? Evan Smith…bye felicia

  21. JAB83 Says:

For all you who laugh at the idea of the playoffs this season… I won’t change your mind with this post… But as the article reads… One must consider the playoffs as a possibility with a 500 record six games into a 16 game season… And if you consider the puttie cats and Tweety birds are bound to lose and a hand full of games and we still could match them in the division… Playoffs are a question worth considering come the trade deadline…

In reality, not much separates the talent levels of the teams in our division… We could easily not lose another game in our divission … On the flip side we could easily not win another game… Its still to early to tell… But a win over the porky pigs would make a lot of you sing a different song… Especially after the tweetie birds get beat by the apostates tonight…

Wait for it… The tide is shifting, just need for you folks to start believing we ain’t gonna drowned and stop swimming against the current…

  22. JAB83 Says:

@B4L, you do it for draft picks… Teams in the hunt would scoop those guys up in a heart beat… We have talent and depth at all those position and if not we can replace them in the draft or FA next year… That’s why…. Its called a business for a reason!!!

    Hope that helps 🙂

  23. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I hope they trade Glennon…but not for less than a 2nd rounder. That would come in handy while drafting defense next year.

  24. bucsbedabest Says:

    Jim Mora –

    “whats that? “uhh?”

“playoffs!?” “u talkin bout??” “playoffs!?!” “are you kidding me??” “playoffs!?!”

@TheBucsAnthem Says – That was the funniest thing I have ever read. Even funnier was an article about making the playoffs!! Even funnier is that funniest isn’t a word… and Joe didn’t get it!!

  25. Cas Says:

I hope Glennon does get a decent chance soon. I hope he can have a free agency chance for rewarding financial return. Carma will be in play here for all you Jamis fans. Mark my word. FSU and Florida season tickets sales was a dumb business decision.

  26. BucFan20 Says:

Well you can tell it’s the bye week. They beat the garbage Jags (barely), still have a losing record and you start talking playoffs and still try to figure a way to get rid of Glennon. Give it a rest. He is not going anywhere and this totally unprepared team is going nowhere except to the draft after the season.

  27. Charlie V Says:

Playoffs? ROFLMAO … With Lovie as the head ball coach the Buc’s will never be in the playoffs. Lovie might be a good position coach, however he was a poster child for the peter principal as a coordinator and as a head coach he is nothing more than a joke. The sooner Lovie is history the sooner the Bucs will have a chance to reach the playoffs.

  28. ShameisTheFarmer Says:

didn’t read all the diatribes….you guys seem to know it all . Regardless of this years outcome, Glennon is gone next year. He will be a free agent. If we can get ANYTHING for him that would be awesome.

  29. unbelievable Says:

I think if there was a good offer for Glennon, we would have taken it already.

Only way that changes is if a big-time QB goes down on another team, and they’re not happy with their current backup.

  30. passthebuc Says:

Joe, did you get that good stuff your smoking from Colorado where its legal.

    PLAYOFF. ABSURD.

  31. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

I agree that Mike Glennon should be worth a 2nd round pick. He’s proven he can play in the NFL and he’s already been through the ups and downs of his rookie campaign. Glennon can definitely make an impact on a team next fall, and I doubt the same could be said for any 2nd round prospect in next spring’s draft. I’d like to see him go a good team with an aging QB where he can eventually succeed someone like Palmer, Romo, Brady, Manning, etc.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

bucs blew their chance to trade glennon…everyone knows he’s a fa after the season so no one will offer the bucs anything…GO BUCS!!!
