Gerald McCoy talks to Joe in New Orleans

That players-only film session led by Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David this week? Mission accomplished, Gerald McCoy told Joe in the happy Bucs locker room in New Orleans.

Joe talked to an exhausted McCoy who said the jelling was evident.

“We just came out today as a unit,” McCoy said. “Everybody focused on doing their job as best they could. And it worked out for us.”

McCoy said he understood fan freakout after the opening-day beating, but it was the players job to block out the outside world and stay focused.

No. 93 also said he hatched a bit of a plan with Jacquies Smith to stay committed to edge rushing versus coming inside while McCoy would rush the B-gap. Smith had a whopping three sacks, so it worked.

Good OL’ GMC flapping his mouth again…..but basically was a non-factor the whole game….

….what a great leader defense! (rolling eyes)

LVD is the leader of the defense…..not you GMC

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Would still like an injury update. But I imagine Joe is drinking the booze in celebration right now, lol.

Just glad the losing streak is broken.

  16. D-Rome Says:

I’m glad the Buccaneers got a win today. I saw improvements all over the field today including at the offensive line (especially Marpet). All of the sudden the Texans look beatable with their quarterback carousel and diminished running game with Foster out for a few more weeks.

I think the haters around here need to take a step back and either enjoy the win or find another team to follow.

  17. Thibs5599 Says:

@TheBucsAnthem – If McCoy is out this team will 100% notice it. LVD and him are both the leaders of this team and constant double teams on McCoy allows guys like Smith to get pressure. So much hate for McOy and I don’t understand. Comes from everywhere but the guy could of easily left and he decided to stay on a horrible team and build this defense up.

  18. Trubucfan22 Says:

Mccoy is a locker room leader. His on field leadership isnt there but he did a heck of a job splitting a double team to get his sack today. And people say GMC doesnt get doubled.

  19. tdtb2015 Says:

they stayed committed and earned their money today!

    Good job D.

  20. Animal Says:

Word right now is that GMC has a strained shoulder.

  21. Gmc Says:

Gmc injury scare being reported as just that, a scare and he is “fine”

  22. JAB83 Says:

People please stop replying to stupid negative comments!!!! If it is a lagit concern or observations so be it… But stupid people and the comments they leave should be ignored!!!! Otherwise reply just makes you stupid as well IMHO….

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Animal

Hope you’re right. They were massaging his biceps as he left the field and given GMC’s history with biceps injuries that was scary.

  24. Howard Cosell Says:

    Per Rick Stroud Twitter:
Bucs DT Gerald McCoy not moving his right arm as he entered the locker room. Injured in the final minute of the game.

    I hope he’s OK.
    Good job Bucs.

Saints fans must be rioting right now.

  25. David Rogers Says:

    Per Stroud.

McCoy said he was fine after the game. Was using his hurt arm to pack up his locker.

  26. "that guy" Says:

way to beat the double team and come through with the sack mr mccoy. i like the adjustment to play for your teamates as well, keep up the good work. go bucs.

  27. Buccaneers have their edge rusher in Jacquies Smith | The Scoopp Says:

[…] we shouldn’t forget about McCoy’s contribution to Smith’s success either. As he told JoeBucsFan, McCoy planned with Smith for the latter to stick with outside speed rushes when McCoy went for the […]

  28. Dave Says:

    Winston haters

    All of you-
    F$&@ Off

It’s been 2 games. Marcus or JW need 2 years before you crown one or bash the other. They are ROOKIES!

It is pathetic how you all wanted to blow your heads off and call for Lovies head and calling JW a bust.

2 games?!? Really?!? Just tells me you know nothing about football.

Same for the McCoy haters. HE is the reason that line played good today. He disrupts everything while taking double teams. He is a beast.

  29. Bobby Says:

Yeah, McCoy is on pace for 16 sacks. 2 after 2 games. What a softie. People who post about McCoy being a non factor should really find another sport to follow. They appear so foolish to those who really watched the game.
