Taking The Fall In “Attack Mode”

June 20th, 2015

patrick omamehFor a first-year right guard at 24 years old, Patrick Omameh sure absorbed a stiff lesson after 16 starts for Tampa Bay last year.

The Buccaneers’ overlords studied the game film and decided Omameh should switch to right tackle, and they should draft a guy who played very little guard at Division III Hobart College to replace him. And that guy, Ali Marpet, is now competing with 2014 fifth-round pick Kadeem Edwards, who has no regular-season experience.

Was Omameh, who played tackle at the University of Michigan really such a disaster last year? Joe knows one former Bucs guard who believes young linemen need patience and snaps.

Regardless, Omameh said he entered this offseason in “attack mode” and his happy for the chance to diversify his NFL experience. Omameh was snatched from the 49ers practice squad by former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik in October 2013.

You can watch a recent interview of Omameh below.

Omameh amassed 5 sacks, 6 QB hits and 25 QB hurries with 5 penalties last year. The big three problem children on the OL in 2014 were Collins, Cousins and Omameh. Omameh was actually the best of the three considering the amount of snaps. Here is my problem, I hear Marpet may not be ready for the opener which means the Gilkmeister could get the start? Personally I think Omameh and Gilkmeister should join Collins and Cousins in the unemployment line based on last years performance and the Bucs front office should be exploring FA to have a quality starter to protect America’s QB. If not the almighty one is not going to be happy. Please protect him.

BBDD – Though blunt, you may be right. I thought Cousins was terrible as well, and he was a coaches’ favorite. I, too, think the waiver wire will be used to pick up a veteran OL or two. The sooner the better. For depth, if not starting. Hope so, anyway.

Please lord anyone but Gilkey. Can we call up Herschel Walker And see if he wants to make the transition to guard? I hear he can still contribute to an NFL team, a concept that most of our O-Lineman simply are not familiar with. I’m hoping that Jason can see the Licht before it’s too late.

  4. Owlykat Says:

An unprepared, zero experienced Rookie, Marpet, is light years better than the incompetent Gilkey, who wouldn’t be employed in the NFL but for the scheming of his Buddy WarFLOP who keeps finding ways to keep giving him NFL starts on the Bucs with no shame for the way he cripples our Offense.

  5. Brent Says:

This guy omaneh sucked last year. Never seen a guard chasing defensive tackle so much. I’m not an offensive line coach but with guys like this I don’t see how you can win many games. I hear you guys shining a light on Lovie, as deserved, but this licht should be on the hot seat too. Market better work out and asj and Simms too. Otherwise he’s blown two drafts and two off seasons. No o-line guys picked up in fa this year? That guy from Oakland shouldn’t have left one buc IMO!!!!’

Cutting Penn was Stupid. Oakland can’t stop thanking us
It was Pats first year starting. It’s year Starters struggle
    Why the Gilkey hate??
Do some of you just hear one bad thing, and then pretentious like you are knowledgeable?
Gilkey played pretty well- until they started him at Center- a position he had never played OR practiced until that week!!

And some of you idiots think that’s his fault?
It’s actually a complement- that with no training, they thought he was better than every other center on the roster.
Gawd- some of you are so damn clueless
