Rookie Rise Continues At Wednesday Practice

June 4th, 2015

AlexanderJoe was back operating covert drones and using ground operatives at One Buc Palace on Wednesday, as the Bucs were on the field for Day 5 of OTA practice.

The session was closed to media, but Joe gathered intelligence, regardless.

Making waves among Bucs movers and shakers was fourth-round rookie linebacker Kwon Alexander out of LSU. Just 20 years old, Alexander’s elite athleticism is shining along with how quickly he’s grasping the defense. The adjective given to Joe was “outstanding.”

Alexander is training at middle and strongside linebacker, but it was emphasized to Joe that free agent Bruce Carter is the mike linebacker and Alexander working the middle is no reflection on Carter’s progress.

Joe’s very intrigued to learn that Alexander continues to impress. If the Bucs think he can handle starting at strongside linebacker immediately, then Tampa Bay might as well go ahead and start him over 30-year-old (in August) Danny Lansanah.

It’s not like the Bucs are angling for a Super Bowl this season. Let the kid take his lumps and grow with experience.

We should always aim for SB. We can’t settle for less

    @BucsQcCity:

Don’t you think they should go out and win a home game first?

  3. SteveK Says:

I agree with you, Joe. We are most likely not in a Super Bowl chase, so play the young guys.

I still don’t know why Lovie played McCown over Glennon last year, unless we were TANKING.

  4. NonyaDamnBucsiness Says:

    SteveK,

Bingo! I think the moment McCown came back from that thumb injury, we were in full on tank mode.

    It’s that simple.

    GO BUCS!

Then you don’t know Lovie. He really believed that when he put Old man McCown back in, that it gave them ” the best chance to win”!!!

  6. gotbbucs Says:

If given the choice, Lovie will choose the veteran just about every time.

  7. Marc Says:

If Alexander starts that would be an unbelievably fast LB group. Maybe the fastest in the NFL. I seem to remember people citing the speed and quickness at LB as a core element of what made the great Tampa 2 work so well. Good things are building…

I know your site and your articles but that was weak lol you know your covering a sport franchise who’s only job is to put a winning product out on the field? strongside linebacker in this defense is not all that big so yea he could start day one and we’d never miss lansannah but I am intrigued at the idea of him playing middle linebacker

This will truly be a great draft if our later round picks (4-7) turn out to be good players…..I’m hopefull at least Alexander & Bell work out…..

You need one of those bug drones about the size of a dragonfly to beat their closed practice policy. Up close and personal.

Where would the lightening be if they did not trust their young talent.

If some injury occurs to our Pro Bowl best LB I think Kwon would be able to take over the weak side LB job without missing a beat but we need Carter in the MLB position with his experience calling the Defenses, stopping runs, blitzing, yet able to cover receivers too. Lansanah has the size to be a Great SLB and is a proven playmaker who has good speed too. Kwon is great for our depth and playing special teams and spelling our other LBs. The rest of our LBs are for Special Teams.
