Bucs QB Mike Glennon changes a play at the line of scrimmage during Thursday’s OTA at One Buc Palace.

News, notes and observations from Bucs OTA practice Thursday at One Buc Palace. And yes, it was a bit toasty out there.

* Today’s music selection was not from Logan Mankins. The air was filled with hip hop. No word who selected the tunes. And sorry, no, Joe did not recognize the artists. Remember: Joe is from the cornfields of southern Illinois.

* Caution: OTAs are still underwear football. Joe will have a story later about Lovie talking about underwear football, but please, temper expectations. There is only so much that can be done and learned from these exhibitions.

* Bucs quarterback of the past and of the future but not of the present, Mike Glennon, took what appeared to be the majority of snaps with the first team. Glennon was a busy guy today. He also took a couple of snaps as a holder for place kicks.

* Glennon hits Luke Stocker on a short pass to the left. Glennon was throwing a lot of ropes today.

* “America’s Quarterback,” Jameis Winston, threads the needle between three defenders hitting Brandon Myers toward the right on a low pass.

* On pass about 15 yards downfield to the right, Jameis hits Louis Murphy right in the numbers but Murphy couldn’t haul the pass in.

* Mike James grabs a pass over the middle from Jameis.

* Luke Stocker hauls in a fastball from Jameis to the right.

* Seems the Bucs are working more on downfield passes today, but not so much bombs. Last Thursday, virtually all passes seemed of the short variety.

* Jameis, like Glennon, is throwing a lot of line drive fastballs for the most part. Wonder if the quarterbacks got a talking to about too many floaters?

* Rannell Hall runs a post pattern about 20 yards downfield and Jameis hits him in stride. Just a beautiful play. Just like they programmed a video game.

* Doug Martin is the target for a Glennon pass in the right flat but Glennon throws behind Martin. No problem. The Muscle Hamster is able to come back and retrieve it and still make it up field.

* Vincent Jackson finds a spot in space between four defenders and Glennon finds him with a low pass.

* Stocker hauls in a Glennon offering on a post pattern for a touchdown.

* Glennon again threads the needle between two defenders, hitting Jackson along the right sideline.

* Ouch, Christmas in June. Jameis throws to a gaggle of defenders and there was no red jersey (offense) in sight. Not sure what Jameis, or who Jameis, was throwing to.

* Jameis now decides to toy with defensive backs. Tavarres King ran a route along the right sideline and Jameis pump-faked him open as the defender bit on the play.

* Jameis to Hall for a touchdown as Jameis split a pair of defenders.

* Jameis makes no secrets how he loves to throw to tall receivers but Russell Shepard (6-1) is not Mike Evans. Jameis throws way high for Shepard who couldn’t quite sky high enough for the ball. The pass goes off his hands, bounces in the air, and falls before a defensive back can grab it. Danger Will Robinson.

* At least with long passes, Glennon is on target today.

* Jameis misses his target and Leonard Johnson dives for the pick.

* A run! Yes, really! Glennon hands the ball off to Charles Sims who runs left.

* Jameis leads Bobby Rainey too much on a pass in the right flat. On the very next play, the same route, Jameis throws a little behind Adam Humphries.

* Tight end Cameron Brate is wide open down the right sideline for Jameis.

* Throwing where they ain’t: Jameis loops the ball over three defenders in what looked like an incompletion but Hall dives for the catch.

* Communication Breakdown: This time Hall and Jameis are not on the same page. Throwing to the right side, Jameis throws right and Hall breaks left. Whoops!

* Take that Marcus Mariota and the rest of you spread guys: On the last play of practice, Jameis runs a keeper to the left on a read-option play.

Glennon was the better QB today and is the better QB when compared to Winston. Once Jameis shows his incompetence during the first couple of games, Glennon will be put in as the starter likely after the bye. This will be done by Lovie in order to prevent an epic collapse like last year. Heck, Lovie isnt stupid -> he wants to keep his job. lol.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Stymied….ha ha ha ha ha yah I see what your saying. I think you’re right too.

Glennon’s the better QB…..ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

    lol.

  3. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Stymied,

I didn’t realize you were at practice today. How long have you been a NFL talent evaluator? Oh that’s right, you’re a nobody who thinks he knows it all.

  4. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Yeah, they’re gonna bench their #1 pick after a couple games. In other news, I am the tooth fairy. Serious question: Do you even for one second think about what you are typing before you hit “Submit Comment”. I swear for many of you, Joe needs to change the button to say “Are you sure?”

  5. Buc1987 Says:

Hawaiian Buc…and as PRBucFan would say…he’s got a helluva crystal ball too.

  6. bucs4lyfe Says:

    wrong again…..

Joe your warning didn’t help one bit….yes glennon looked great today from joes perspective but unlike jameis glennon’s weakness never shows up until the big lights come on because he’s been scared of a pass rush since the day he got here, otherwise he would probably be a really good quarterback. he’ll get no love for doing what he should be doing as a 3rd yr quarterback, if he couldn’t hit open receivers with no pass rush by now then he’s not even good enough to be backup. when the stakes get high that’s when glennon will blow it

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Glennon is the gum on the bottom of Winston’s cleats.

  8. OAR Says:

Hypocrites abound on Joebucsfan!!! Too funny….how you guys, swingimng from Jameis jock strap, rip on Glennon, but if anybody talks negative about “America’s magic QB” they’re idiots, dumb asses, or don’t know what theyre talking about.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

“but if anybody talks negative about “America’s magic QB” they’re idiots, dumb asses, or don’t know what theyre talking about.”

    Bingo we have a winner.

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @OAR,

I don’t think you understand. I don’t know if Glennon out-performed Winston. But it doesn’t really matter in June. This is what, his 4th practice with the real team (which isn’t really the real team anyway)? One day of practice doesn’t a QB make. This guy (and many others) are quick to jump on any negative thing about Winston. If Joe were to not point out any of the bad throws Winston makes, people would jump him for being a homer. We all know Winston is going to make mistakes. He’s going to make more than Glennon. You can bank on that. He’s a gun slinger. But he will (at least if he’s what we think he is) win more games for us. He will make the throws when he has to – something Glennon failed to do.

Winston is going to be the starter, regardless. Hang up any belief to the contrary. He’s the #1 overall pick. There isn’t one team that is bad enough to have the #1 pick that wouldn’t start him. Is it fair? Probably not. But it’s the way it is. They are not going to bench him after a few bad games. Get that out of your mind too. They would dummy down the offense before they would let that happen. They are all in on Jameis, as they should be. He was their first pick – one they tanked for to get.

  11. Dan Says:

I don’t care for underwear football, but it is nice to see Hall taking advantage of getting reps with Jameis. Can’t wait to see more of him. Joe’s, are they playing him in the slot or outside?

  12. bucs4lyfe Says:

get back to me if glennon is taking first team reps in training camp. I like the idea of him taking second team reps. You do not want the veterans seeing these rookies coming in being given anything after the season they just had. making them earn everything is the way to go. actually this will do nothing but motivate Winston to work even harder to be the day one starter, it’s humbling and it’s smart and I think lovie and licht are much smarter now than this time last year

    Hawaiin
I come on here everyday and have since practically the beginning. I read a lot of the comments and post a few myself. I call it like I see it. Has nothing to do with todays performance. You guys rag and rip Glennon. I understand who will start and I understand difference between practice and real football. I don’t care who out performs who right now. My comment has nothing to do with that. Again, I say HYPOCRITES!! BTW I can say the same about anything Winston does in June also then. Defend yourselves, you’ve had plenty of practice with Winston.

  15. OAR Says:

oops didn’t mean to double post.

  16. OAR Says:

    1987
I think you meant to type….We have a wiener!

  17. Buc1987 Says:

lol OAR…nope I agree with you and fans should defend their rookie QB. Hell some did that for Glennon when he was a rookie too

  18. OAR Says:

    1987
Yea but why defend him way before he was our rookie QB.

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @OAR,

If you come on here everyday, you should know how it all starts. It starts with some clown (usually Robert9 or one of his alter egos) making some stupid criticism. Care to argue that? Look no further than this post for evidence. Yes, many of us like Winston. We wanted the Bucs to draft him because we believed he was the best QB available and he was going to help put our team back to the top (in time, not this year). He gets attacked more than any QB I can recall. By all accounts, he’s done everything he’s supposed to do since being drafted. I just saw on NFL Network that the veterans are saying he’s been “almost shy” in the locker room, because he doesn’t want to step on anyone’s toes. He’s also having to be told to leave. So when some clown who I’ve never seen post say he’s better than Winston and Winston is going to fail, then yes, I get defensive. In my best T.O. voice, “He’s my Quarterback”. That doesn’t make me a hypocrite.

I gave Glennon a fair shot. I like the kid. Hell, I can’t tell you how many people say I look like him (it doesn’t appear to be a compliment). He seems like a hard worker and a great guy. He seems to have handled the drafting of Jameis like a true pro. He handled the McClown situation like a pro last year too. In my opinion, he’s just not a franchise QB. I didn’t think he was anything special in college (yes, I saw him play), but I absolutely supported him. He just never gave me much to support. It’s as simple as that.

  20. OAR Says:

Again Hawiian, I’m not commenting on who is better or if Glennon has given much to support. As for robert9/others, I don’t care who casts the first stone. You either man up and ignore them or you’re one that will cast them back. Wah, Wah, he started it really? Actually, you’re not even one I was even thinking/talking about, but if you want to assume you’re in that category go ahead. Just my opinion….hypocrites abound. That is all.

  21. Martinii Says:

    Joe, how is ASJ looking?

  22. OAR Says:

There’s a special thing in life for robert9/others, it’s called karma. Heck, he’s already been banned from here for being an a$$.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @OAR,

I guess I don’t understand your point. I don’t consider someone a hypocrite if they are simply pointing out the stupidity of other people’s hate. I don’t know if you wanted Jameis or not, but I’m pretty sure regardless you would agree he gets attacked more than anyone in recent memory. I don’t like it when people say things like F- Glennon, etc., but those idiots are far less than those who say F- Winston. If Winston plays horrible, we all know people will be coming out of the woodwork bashing him. That’s the way it works, especially with a guy like Jameis. However, for people to bash him before he’s ever taken a snap is equally (if not more) stupid than reserving his spot in Canton. He’s the man now, and it’s stupid and a waste of time for idiots to criticize every move he makes (or ever piece of arse he chases).

Yes, I can ignore the trolls. Sometimes I do. However, I’m not going to lie, the trolls help make this site what it is. If everyone was praising Jameis and not saying stupid things, it would get boring real quick. It’s fun to go back and forth with people, and I never take anything said on here personal. If I met Robert9 in person, we’d probably hang out and have a beer and get along great. I’m almost certain he’s exaggerating his feelings to get a rise out of people. It’s all in fun. This site is all in fun. The day I get upset from JBF is probably the last day I come on JBF.

  24. LakelandBuc Says:

Jameis is 21 and won’t turn 22 until 2016, he is the QB of the future for the Bucs. His situation is similar to Phillip Rivers situation after San Diego traded Eli for him,Drew Brees hadn’t shown the coaching staff nothing as a starter. But once Rivers was drafted, Brees had a wakeup call,to make matters worse for Rivers he held out of camp for a better contract. But Jameis is here in camp competing against Glennon and learning the offense. The only way Glennon can win the job is that he has to have an outstanding preseason and Winston will have to stink up the field, and I don’t see that happen.

  25. OAR Says:

    Hawaiian
I guess you don’t understand because I really wasn’t directing it at you. And I’m with you. I don’t always ignore them either. I remember Thomas 2.2(or whatever it was) getting under my skin finally. It’s all cool. I just know Winston guys on here have said things about Glennon, but are the first to defend if something is said about Winston.
BTW we did have a short conversation about Winston and Mariota and I didn’t think either one were a #1 overall pick. This years draft didn’t have that one player that stood out like most drafts….to me.

  26. OAR Says:

Not sure if the best of a group of ok/average players is good or not.

  27. OAR Says:

Don’t get me wrong. He’s our QB and hope he succeeds. I just don’t understand the upraise of a guy who hasn’t even played a down in the NFL.

  28. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @OAR,

You know how it works. He’s the #1 pick. That means the team was horrible the year before, and are desperate for something that can turn the franchise around. All of our hopes are riding on him. Most of us desperately want him to succeed, and as a result, don’t want to hear people blasting him all the time (actually we do, we just want to attack that person back). Personally, I don’t mind people criticizing him on the field if he deserves it. I don’t like people constantly attacking his character, or jumping on him for something completely stupid (like that stupid video with opening the door for some girl). He threw far too many picks last year, which needs to get corrected. I have no doubt he’s going to have games where we are going to want him pulled, because he made a McClown-type throw. But I believe the good will outweigh the bad. We shall see I guess.

For me, I always liked the guy as a QB. Always thought he was special, especially as a freshman. Last year was less impressive, until the end of the games, where he was amazing. I don’t even attempt to criticize things like throwing motion and footwork, because I understand that I don’t have the credentials to do such. I’ll let the pros take care of that. Jameis is the first guy we drafted that I really wanted us to draft since Brooks (thank goodness we didn’t’ draft Trent Richardson – what an idiot I was), so I’m super excited.

  29. Clodhopper Says:

I’m a huge Jameis fan and am stoked we got him, but I still get ticked off when losers hate on Glennon. It makes no sense to me. It’s not like he’s a threat to take the job from Jameis even if he was better, which he’s not. The most I can comprehend is neutral. Is it really so bad NOT to hate Glennon? Seems more like a crabby, old, cat lady type of grudge to me.

  30. Dinnerplate Nips Says:

Seems like so far Glennon and JW are neck & neck…

And if thats the case, well you gotta go with the longer neck…

  31. Couch Fan Says:

Putting down Glennon to try to lift up Jameis shows fear. Just sayin. Lol. I like Glennon and Jameis. Can’t wait to see them battle it out.

  32. BamBamBuc Says:

Jameis takes more fan abuse during underwear football than Josh Freeman did ever. Too funny. Some people whine just for the sake of whining. Nothing changes, which is why I don’t check in very often anymore.

No offense to the Joe’s, you still do a great job and I check in for these posts with notes about practices the fans can’t attend. But it gets repetitive, redundant, and boring to argue just for arguments sake.

  33. Jeagan1999 Says:

Both our young QBs have strong arms and lots of potential! I’m glad MG8 is pushing himself and Jameis. Competition brings out the best in everyone!

  34. Buc1987 Says:

    But we miss you BamBam.

  35. Joe Says:

No offense to the Joe’s, you still do a great job and I check in for these posts with notes about practices the fans can’t attend. But it gets repetitive, redundant, and boring to argue just for arguments sake.

Understand Bam Bam. Tis’ the offseason.

    Thanks for the kind words.

  36. K1ngadroc Says:

Bucs have two QBs on the roster that can win games in the NFL. We should all be excited about that. Our best QB hasn’t taken a regular season snap. I’m looking forward to seeing him compete. Go get em rook! Go bucs

  37. WinstonBomb3 Says:

Glennon doesn’t win games in the NFL…

  38. DamnImFameis Says:

hearing lots about Stocker; which I love….haven’t heard Jenkins name much though 🙁
