Jameis Hits The Practice Field On Friday

May 4th, 2015

Jameis WinstonHow pumped up is Joe?

Joe already is counting the hours until the start of Bucs rookie minicamp.

That starts Friday, when Jameis Winston will be on the practice field slinging footballs around for the first time in a Buccaneers uniform.

And Winston won’t just be tossing the rock around with a bunch of tryout players, he’ll be firing balls at new rookie receivers Kenny Bell (fifth round) and Kaelin Clay (sixth round.)

This will be a lot more fun that last year’s minicamp, when noodle-armed Brett Smith out of Wyoming was the gunslinger-in-chief.

Remember, Joe will bring you all the need-to-know nuggets, and Joe’s got a special surprise in store.

I don’t understand why people are so excited about JW. All he might do is make the Bucs nationally relevant again and cool again and sell tickets and put us on MNF and perhaps win games and take us to the playoffs and beyond. Just don’t get it. 😉

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    Ohhhh. I love surprisers!
Let me take A guess! Joe is going to apologize too the Realist and place Adrian Clayborn on the list of the top 20 worst Bucs of the last 10 years!

Haven’t been on here since we drafted Jameis.

I’d just like to say, sorry to all the MM fans, and welcome to Tampa, Mr. JAMEIS WINSTON!!!!

  10. Maze Says:

Finally a real QB in Tampa. Just stay away from Freeman’s favorite nightly hotspots.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Hawaiian Buc

How about the I-train……good pick for us?

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Lets hope Donovan Smith’s big toe is OK…..

  13. Luther Says:

I’d like to say thanks to all the Mariota fans who jumped off the Bucs bandwagon. My cousin texted me about going to the opener. With so many of you jumping off and heading to Miami/Jax/Tenn it really makes it easier to get tickets.

  14. Luther Says:

@Maze pretty safe bet that Winston and Freeman don’t hang out in the same clubs.

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

Somebody better be working on that indoor practice facility- I mean pronto!
It’s going to be exciting for , I dunno, the next decade or so!

    Happy days are here again

  16. Architek Says:

Best Buc QB to wear 3 –
And he hasn’t taken a snap yet!!!!!!

    It’s the Winston era Now!!!

  17. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Winston doesn’t need an indoor facility…..Joe will happily mirror his every movment holding an umbrella over Jameis head

  18. Stanglassman Says:

Do you think we will ever find out if he was told #5 was not an option due to (Josh Freeman)marketing reasons?
Is it a foregone conclusion that La’el Collins will sign with the Saints if he is cleared?

  19. The Real Drew Says:

Joe in a #3 Winston jersey won’t be a surprise.

  20. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @TampabayBucFan,

I wrote about him in his article. I think he’s got a shot to make the team.

  21. WS99 Says:

Winston said it was his first number. He just wanted to go back to it, fresh start/new beginning.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Stranglassman

Actually, if I were Collins….screw the Saints….my home team wouldn’t even risk a 7th round pick on me…..I’d actually be more motivated to play for a division opponent.

  24. Stanglassman Says:

I know the story he told everyone but I just felt like they said if you couldn’t wear 5 what’s your next choice. Maybe I’m over thinking it but I can see why for marketing purposes they would ask him to choose another one.
The saints would have had to risk a 3rd rounder on Collins if they wanted him to sign. But yea I can see him being disappointed the Saints didn’t pick him. Probably best for him to get out of that area either way.

  25. Yeah It's me! Says:

So Excited! This will be an exciting season! I think that even when we loose a game this year we shouldn’t look like a total joke of a team. Going to be fun to see Winston and this new team with Koetter as OC and the D in it’s 2nd year with a lot more holes filled with better talent ( even if some struggle this season). GO BUCS!!!

  26. JMN Says:

Joe’s surprise is the unveiling on his Winston shrine in his bedroom! Can’t wait.

Oh….I thought this place was Winstons Shrine….

  28. BuccaneEric Says:

I’m excited to get this season going, but can we at least tell the other teams in our division that it won’t start till November. I don’t want them having an unfair advantage two years in a row!! Lol

  29. Brandon Says:

Saints have two good young OTs under contract and then they spent a 1st on Andrus Peat. It would be pretty hard to convince Collins that he would have a legit chance to come in and compete for a job…at least at OT. If he came to Tampa, he would have a legit shot to start this season at either LT or RT or even either of the OG positions. I would think Tampa would be a far more attractive option for Collins.

  30. Buc-Naked Says:

Can’t wait to hear… “Touch Down Tampa Bay…Winston to Jackson..Fire those Cannons!”

  31. LJ'sDaddy Says:

everyone give Joe a break about being excited. It is an exciting time to be a Bucs fan… for a change. After the draft hangover I am pumped pumped pumped! So much promise.

  32. Hawk Says:

A ‘possible’ effect on Collins could be the same as with Doug Williams. The ‘main’ reason that Doug left Tampa was because Hugh Culverhouse was a cheapskate, but he also said he needed to ‘get away’ after his wife died. His mother was going to take care of his new baby, and he wanted to be closer. Collins may fight the same demons.

  33. tval Says:

Eagerly awaiting the rumblings out of the tennessee/tampa rookie camps. Should be interesting

  34. BuccaneEric Says:

We CANNOT LOSE vs the Titans!!!!! How embarrassing would that be!!!!!!!

  35. polk co buc fan Says:

Idk y y’all are so excited, he trew a bunch of int’s in his last game he played and the coach got all over his a__ for acting like a b____ about it. He can’t even go 1 hr after he was drafted to something stupid. I’m hopeing for the best, but w/ all this national attention we’re probably gonna get……. I just hope we don’t look like fools like we always do.I guess I don’t really see where he’s all that great. But I hope I’m wrong.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

polk co buc fan…how many INT’s did he throw in his last game?

    1.

  37. polk co buc fan Says:

Well not sure which receiver was behind him but he missed him too. Point is , he make about as many mistakes as he does “NFL” throws.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

Look there was a reason why he was touted to go in the top 5 picks. Not because he sucked in his last game…which he didn’t, according to me and many “experts” that watched that game.

    I don’t hope you’re wrong, I know your wrong.
