Where Is The Outrage?

April 1st, 2015
Free pass.

Free pass.

So recently it was learned the No. 2 quarterback in this month’s NFL draft, Marcus Mariota, decided he won’t be part of the NFL spectacle in Chicago, opening night of the draft on April 30.

So far, Joe has heard nary a discouraging word about Mariota’s decision.

Look, the Bucs still may take Mariota No. 1 overall. Who is to say the Bucs don’t get spooked about Jameis Winston if a neighbor claims they thought they saw a stripper pole in Winston’s living room from the sidewalk?

This non-reaction is puzzling to Joe’s good friend Justin Pawlowski, “The Commish” of Scout.com.

Yes, it’s interesting that a lot of folks mocked Winston for staying home with his family, or just simply piled on because they hate the kid for some reason. Mariota? Oh, he’s a nice young boy. He should be allowed to do what he wishes even though he, too, could be the No. 1 overall pick.

That scent Joe smells isn’t only what seems to be a double-standard.

I wouldn’t want to shake the Devils I mean Roger Goodell’s hand either.

This is like one of those You go first to get crap and then I’ll follow up when the coast is clear.

But the same outlets that bash JW DID NOT update their stories that JW grandma? Grandpa? is diabetic and can’t travel, so he rather spend it with his family.

  3. 87LikesFreeJerseys Says:

Where’s the outrage amongst your commenters Joe.? That’s what I want to know. There were people in here calling Winston every name in the book for saying he wanted to stay home for the draft.

It’s great though that they’ve been silent about Mariota doing the same thing, because it proves the point that I’ve been making for weeks. These FOOLS that come in here will complain and nitpick about ANY and I mean ANYTHING Winston does or says. He could say hi to someone, and some idiot would be in here saying he said it the wrong way.

If the word FOOL is too harsh for ya, then stop acting like one. Some of you people should go back inot the archives and read some of your venom that you spit at this kid and shake your head at how foolish you looked.

  4. Couch Fan Says:

Tell em Joe. A lot of people speak out of both sides of their mouths when it comes to the 2 QBs.

  5. Drew Says:

Another negative article on Mariota. As expected.

    Outraged, simply outraged…..how dare he?

  8. ndog Says:

I wonder if the big idiot error dog will rip him like he did Jameis for not attending the draft. Oh I forgot He loves him now that it is clear he will be the pick. Oh yeah I forgot none of the last 2 months was really him saying that he prefers Mariota I was just hearing what I wanted to hear. That guy is so full of it.

  9. LargoBuc Says:

Media playing favorites. Nothing to see here. Kinda like when the Rays are kicking @ss, bspn will then bring up stadium bull spit and how we have no fans to make people forget that we’re better than their precious red sux. Van pelt can suck it. I’d love to get in his face.

  10. SuperSam Says:

Jameis probably already knew that Marcus would stay home for the draft, so he wanted to come out and say it first. Dude is such a immature troll.

  11. Skyline Crew Says:

There is outrage. Chicago paid to have the draft there an now the top 2 QBs possibly 1 and 2 overall picks in the draft aren’t even going. Who else will follow? I think this little project of having a city buy the draft is looking to be a fail. Won’t know though until after the final dollar figure.

  12. jfat Says:

I think they’re both doing their teams a disservice by not being there. Represent bitches. I was never outraged by Winston’s decision but I don’t agree with it.

  13. Horice Says:

Where Joe, oh where are ALL the HYPOCRITES? I listened to you & Big Dog yesterday, and your (hypocrite) first caller was a racist bastard! Jameis might have given these idiots ammunition, but when you told the story of your daughter he was stumped! He said she was only 9 for reasoning but any honest person knew what he would’ve said over a few Budlights. If Jameis comes here and performs like he did in college, these hypocritical people will stand cheering and claiming their “longtime” support of him. That is “what” the front office people @ One Buc Place know. Sapp smoked the “whacky Tabaccy”, won Superbowl & Hall of Fame, Brooks took shoes (as was your point yesterday) won the SUPERBOWL and Hall of Fame. So if the trend is correct we will have at least one Superbowl with Jameis under center. And you hypocrites can die a slow death!

    Ironic post is ironic.

  15. jfat Says:

Slightly different scenario also since Winston is supposed to be the #1 overall. If mariota doesn’t go #1 it wont be a surprise, if Winston doesn’t go #1 it’ll be an upset and he probably wouldn’t want to be seen sulking in the green room.

  16. bo Says:

I was not pleased with Winston’s decision to skip the draft until I heard him say that it was because his grandmother was too ill to travel…then I did not have a problem with it…I am about as anti-Winston as you can get….but if he is telling the truth I do not have a problem with him staying home….Mariota should be getting grief also unless he has a legit reason….

  17. Nick Says:

    @supersam

It’s actually worse than that.. Jameis actually procured a flux capacitor, went back to 1945 and started his grandmother on a high-sugar diet so he could use her as cover for his flawless scheme.

  18. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

It’s not just the outrage….where’s the speculation that Mariota is lying just like there was speculation that Winston was lying? Hell, a certain radio host yesterday said that Winston was lying about his grandmother.

Goodell must’ve told him to stay away…yea that’s it

No wait…he must be holding out because he wants to get paid to show up. That just HAS to be it.

Oh oh oh, I know…he’s strong arming the Bucs into assuring him that he’s the pick. There it is…that has to be the one.

No hold on…he must just be a coward. Scared to get booed. There it is…that’s the one I’m going to go with

If she cant travel because shes too old and frail, thats one thing, but diabetes? really?

  22. Jeagan1999 Says:

I’ll say the same thing I said with Winston…I’m a bit disappointed, but not outraged. The draft is so much fun for the fans, and when the top prospects don’t attend, I think it loses something. I understand the reasons behind staying home and being with family, but as a fan, I would rather see them on stage with the commissioner. Doesn’t change my opinion of the player, however! I still hope Mariota is the Bucs choice whether he is there in Chicago or not 🙂

  23. Couch Fan Says:

The NFL should not allow this to happen. They pump up the draft every year and now first year in a new city other than NY and the top picks in the draft are not representing. There will be more to follow in years to come if this happens. Just giving fans less reason to tune into the draft.

I know quite a few unfortunate folks who have, one who had 17 surgeries, half amputations, bypass procedures, etc.

It can be pretty devastating. I believe it is the number one cause of amputations in the US.

Naturally, Jameis must be lying about his Grandmother’s condition.

  39. unbelievable Says:

I believe the difference in reaction amongst the 2 QBs deciding not to attend is for three main reasons:

    1. When it was reported JW would not attend, the reasoning (his grandma’s health) was not explained.

    2. Add that to the off-field / character concerns people have with JW, and people jumped to the conclusion that Goodell told him not to attend or that he should stay out of the spotlight b/c of the possible backlash.

    3. He’s projected to go #1, and people think the #1 pick should be there in person.

Not saying whether those are right or wrong, just the reasons I believe there was more outrage with JW.

  40. SuperSam Says:

@87likesprisonsex The only reason Jameis is skipping the draft is because he knew Mariota would, that’s just the type of guy Mariota is. Jameis is trying so hard to be like him and take the attention of how great of a person/player Mariota is that its pathetic. That means on billboards, the side of stadiums, the back of jerseys, the incentive for season ticket sales, the hope for fans, etc. You’re basically the second life for the team

It’s going to be almost as much about the marketing as it is about what u do on the field, I just think Winston should be there to smile, take the photo, get his hug and jersey, and call it a day.

He’s not going because his grandma has type 2 (aka acquired) diabetes… is q bogus excuse.

SuperSam in here making a damn fool out of himself too.

    LOL at curtis gatorbum!

  86. delson Says:

Personal and cultural reasons. That’s good enough for me. Jameis has a good reason too my grandmother passed away due to complications of pneumonia. Her diabetes made her recovery near impossible. She was in n out for the last year of her life n it was tough seeing her in that condition. If jameis had came out n said that instead of waiting to reveal his reason I think he’d have been understood.

  87. bo Says:

The only changing of screen names will happen when Jaboo throws his 25th pick by Dec 1st….

  88. JFF Says:

Winston gets more pub, positive or negative. Double-edged sword.

  89. passthebuc Says:

If your not in NY or Chicago for the big events, likely hood is you cannot receive any negative publicity during the visit. maybe this will become the norm. Who knows. maybe the pickings get so slim for the NFL in the future they will invite potential 7th round draftees.

  90. Yungry Says:

Mariota will beat the Bucs when they play the Titans this year! Just like in college when Winston lost in defeat to the man he cannot beat

  91. Dave Pear Says:

    Yungry,
    I’ll take that bet.

  92. DraftJameis Says:

    Erik

Since you wanna cite Jimbo’s track record in developing NFL QBs, it’s only fair you acknowledge the Oregon system QBs that have excelled in the NFL…right?

  93. Yungry Says:

    Dave Pear

    Happy April Fool’s Day!

Glennon will be the starter so Winston won’t play against the Titans…

  94. Dave Pear Says:

    Hungry,
    🙂
I’m not so sure about that.
I’m guessing that Winston starts opening day.
    Still want to bet?

  95. Dave Pear Says:

    ^^^
    Yungry
    Auto correct. Sorry.

  96. Yungry Says:

You buy me a red #8 Glennon jersey if Mike starts the season. If not, I’ll buy you the new red Mariota jump off jersey when he is selected #1 deal?

  97. Dave Pear Says:

    🙂
At least you have a sense of humor.
    I’ll pass on that bet.

  98. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

In Winston’s defense, Diabetes, type 1 or 2, causes the blood sugar to be high (obviously), which thickens the blood. Long periods of standing or sitting can cause the blood to pool in the legs, possibly causing blood clots that could travel to the heart, lungs, or brain and kill her. It’s definitely a valid reason.

The situation seemed pretty shady in the beginning before more info came out about it. I hereby retract any name calling I did of Winston at that time.

  99. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Well, for one thing, it is unlikely he’ll be the number one pick.

I was upset that Winston would not be there, but after watching his interview after the Pro Day, I’m fine with it.

BTW, anyone know where I can watch that show last night with him and Billick?

  100. Yungry Says:

I’ve always supported Marcus but Winston is making the right decision. His grandmother sounds very important to him and she likely doesn’t need to be traveling. A selfish person would leave his family behind to showcase fame and publicity on that stage.

  101. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

He said she was unable to travel, so Winston’s grandmother must be in pretty bad shape. Otherwise he would take her to Chicago.

  102. Chef Paul Says:

    Bonzai,

    “Game Changers” its with Mariucci

  103. 87LikesFreeJerseys Says:

NFL.com supposedly has it…. I haven’t watched it yet either. I heard it was great though…

  104. RealkillersmoveinSilence Says:

Why is everyone afraid of Mariota being a Buc? The kids super talented and relentless won a ton of games in college has next level skills what’s wrong with having a bigger faster version of Russell Wilson?

  105. Mariota Joe Says:

This article is nothing but whining.

  106. 87LikesFreeJerseys Says:

RealkillersmoveinSilence…I have a better question for you.

Why is anyone still talking about Mariota?

  107. Chef Paul Says:

Every body thinks Russel Wilson’s just grow on trees. It’s not like the NFL just now figured out his type makes a great qb. Wilson is an outlier. Looking for the next Russel Wilson will get you nothing more than a Tyre Pryor. A qb with brains AND bronze is as rare as a Mariota fan with common sense!!!

  108. pick6 Says:

*sigh* Real Malloy, in all you vast medical experience are you not aware the diabetes is a spectrum illness? “diabetes” can refer to anything from “i’ve gotta watch my blood sugar” to “i’m an amputee with macular degeneration”. but i’m sure you’re familiar with Grandma Winston’s medical chart

  109. pick6 Says:

wow, all you gracious people have decided to lay off winston on this one because you’re happy with his explanation for something nobody should be compelled to explain. so magnanimous.

  110. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I think it is a bit early to act like anyone has been prove right yet. The draft hasn’t happened.

    Couch Fan Says
    “Ohhhh Bonzaiiiiiii

I remember you saying this was a red flag for Winston….

So is this a red flag in your book for Mariota as well?”

Yes and no. By consensus, Mariota is not slated to be the first pick. It is entirely possible he could slide.

If the mockers are all wrong, and Winston is not picked first, there is no way he get’s past 2nd.

However, if you took the time to actually read, you would see my comment that I was upset at first, but his post Pro Day interview set me at ease with it.

“wow, all you gracious people have decided to lay off winston on this one because you’re happy with his explanation for something nobody should be compelled to explain.”

Bullspit. An explanation was indeed warranted…at least to the fans of the team that will take him at 1.
