The I-Told-You-So Trio

Here's a riddle: What is something that three huge Bucs names don't want to see, and will be given away at Joe's draft part tonight?

Here’s a riddle: What is something that three huge Bucs names don’t want to see, and will be given away at Joe’s draft party tonight?

It just wouldn’t be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with comedy and drama entering the NFL Draft.

And this year’s edition is served up by two Bucs icons and a guy too many Bucs fans consider to be the devil.

Joe will let his Twitter account (which you should follow) do the talking.

For those wondering, Dungy and Chucky are the icons, and the former Bucs rockstar general manager is the guy who gets all kinds of misguided hate. Regardless, they all are firmly in Marcus Mariota’s camp — and none has ever drafted and developed a true franchise quarterback.

The Bucs, of course, are ready to put the franchise in the hands of Jameis Winston, the anti-Mariota. It should happen in a matter of hours.

Dungy has called Mariota the next Aaron Rodgers and even likened him to Joe Montana. (Look for Joe to go off on that one later today). Chucky moved all-in on Mariota earlier this week, and Dominik, now a BSPN and SiriusXM NFL Radio star, questions Winston’s attitude and has been in his camp since Day 1.

Lovie Smith, another guy who’s never figured out the quarterback riddle, seems smitten by Winston.

Man, Joe sure hopes Lovie is on the mark. Stomaching the Bucs getting this historic pick wrong would be too much to bear.

I am so glad that Mark Dominik is no longer making ANY decisions for the Bucs…

This team was a rudderless ship under his management…

  2. buccinfan Says:

and the first pick of the 2015 draft is……. dante fowler lol

  3. Luke Says:

What qb has lovie developed to make him an expert? I’m not saying Winston shouldn’t be the guy, just that this argument is weak. There are about 6 guys who have picked and developed a qb and they are all still working for NFL teams.

oh, so THAT’S what your jersey from Erick will look like.

numbers say jameis will be a bust, mariota less likely to fail.

  7. bucrightoff Says:

No pressure in getting the pick wrong Lovie, it’s probably only the difference between the 2020 season being the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the London Buccaneers.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

    Away jersey, size XL Men’s.

Doesn’t need to be authentic, replica will do just fine Erik…

  11. WS99 Says:

    Joe,

Aaron Rodgers said he received a call from Gruden 2 days before the 2005 draft and that he told Aaron that if he was there at #5 he would be a TB Buc. Instead gruden drafted Cadillac Williams.

Rodgers was the last “college star” picked in that draft and has had the best career of all the top prospects. Meanwhile Lovie drafted Cedric Benson 7th overall.

  12. Celly Says:

year 1 – Winston has more wins that Glennon has his entire Bucs career
year 2 – compete for a wild card sport
    year 3 – division champs

  13. Rob Says:

Praying for Marcus or trade down for multiple high picks. Joe’s crying will be priceless along with all the Winstonites. Whatever happens, GO BUCS!

  14. bucco brice Says:

what’s the appeal, that he’s from FSU? …prima donna, mouth piece like cam newton…see if the team respects him with that personality…lost one game and the true person came out – ragging on his coach…Mariota will work hard (keep his gut trim) and earn respect by his actions…Neuheisel had it right on NFLN last night….we are going to blow it again 🙁

  15. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If the Rumors are true, and Eagles are looking to Mortgage the Franchise for Mariota.

    (2016) 1st round Pick

    +

    (Offensive Line)
    • RT. Lance Johnson

You run to the podium-with that trade.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

What do they all have in common? Hmmm. I think they would all select Jameis over MM if they were coaching or Gm of a team and giving the chance. It’s just sour grapes toward the Bucs.

  17. Stanglassman Says:

QBASE is broken. Does not compute player coming out after sophomore year compared to gimmick boy system….does not compute….does not compute….

  18. Stanglassman Says:

You are gonna LOVE Jameis once you get to know him BUCCO! Because apparently you know nothing about the guy.

  19. robert 9 Says:

    @celly

year 1 – Winston sits the bench behind the Cannon leading to a meltdown
year 2 – compete for a wild card sport – with Glennon at the helm. JW arrested for drunk and disorderly after having to give EK the majority of his cash
year 3 – division champs – JW suspended indefinitely for conduct unbecoming of the NFL
year 4 – JW starts a rap group called crabs, thugs and harmony

  20. Celly Says:

    @robert,

What will you care. you’ll be rooting for the Dolphins anyway, right?

  21. Nick Says:

    @luvmybucs

If they give up all that then maybe we take the trade. Most likely they’ll be so terrible next year that the 2016 1st rounder will be pick number 1.

But that trade will not happen. Chip Kelly still has to live in Philly among people that boo Santa and throw batteries at outfielders.

  22. robert 9 Says:

not as long as JW is not starting.

I don’t see the point of watching a show when you already know the ending

  23. Lord Cornelius Says:

I trust Licht’s QB evaluation over these guys. He was one of the Pats scouts when they took Brady. That in itself is a bigger accomplishment than any QB development/talent identifying those other 3 ever had.

“It’s not that we said we wanted to draft a tall, lanky quarterback that ran a 5.3 [time in the] 40. Those weren’t the traits we were looking for,” current Bucs general manager and then-member of the Patriots personnel staff Jason Licht recently said at a press conference. “But we were looking for the mental makeup…Belichick did a lot of homework on him, along with our staff, on his mental makeup. Watching the tape, he was the guy that would go in and lead them back to victory.”

  24. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Nick

    I hear U brotha,

    (Linebackers)
    • WLB Lavonte David || Orie Lemon

  26. HawaiianBuc Says:

Dominik and Gruden work for BSPN. BSPN needs stories. It’s no story if everyone agree Jameis is the guy. Everyone forgets, but there were plenty of talking heads that preferred RG3. It’s just the way it goes.

As for Dungy, his son played for Oregon. I don’t blame him for being biased, but would anyone expect him to NOT endorse Mariota?

  27. Couch Fan Says:

    @Robert9

So your admitting that Winston will be a Buccaneer? Very good. Keep taking baby steps. maybe 1 day you’ll even learn to say something positive about the man after he helps us win the division.

  28. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @robert9,

What’s your deal with Glennon? He’s won like 5 games in his career, and had one 300 yard game. What in the hell leads you to believe he’s a playoff caliber QB? He wasn’t a star in college, and isn’t one in the pros. I don’t dislike the guy, but he’s just not that good.

  29. BirdDoggers Says:

Whoever the pick is (most likely Winston), needs to be the right pick. This team needs to end the QB drought in Tampa and end the many years of bad drafts. If the Bucs get this pick wrong, the coaching staff and most of the front office will be out of a job and the team will undergo yet another regime change. This team needs to stop pushing the reset button and finally find some stability.

  30. WalkdaPlank Says:

Sh*t, Joe, you’ve never drafted nor developed a QB either. And remember, like the Bucs players supposedly wanting Jameis, they are PROFESSIONALS as you would say. We are all just fans at the end of the day. Gotta support who our team picks.

  31. bucs4lyfe Says:

defensive coaches don’t develop quarterbacks that’s completely stupid…..jon gruden has never developed a quarterback!!! you put the pieces around the guy more than the players it’s about the coaches and the attention they get Monday thru Saturday that helps the most. if your that guy you’ll succeed regardless of your surroundings. so the bottom line is dungy, gruden, lovie and Dominick neither one has EVER developed a quarterback so none of their opinions seem to matter to me, the only guy that has a chance to change that narrative at this point in time is lovie because he’s the only one in the game so his opinion is more important

  32. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Three former employees jealous over what Lovie/Liht along with WINSton are about be. How what they are about accomplish is about overshadow everything they did while in the building. Sitting back wishing like hell they’ll take a guy whose game clearly doesn’t translate to the NFL. See Dennis Dixon and Darrin Thomas.

  33. bucrightoff Says:

All that possible Eagles package makes me do is wonder why the Bucs didn’t try to be a little more coy about who they were taking. By not even showing a slight interest in Mariota the Eagles know they only have to get to #2 and not #1. That would be a pretty nice package to get, especially if you can flip the extra picks for even more picks.

  34. Sim Says:

“and none has ever drafted and developed a true franchise quarterback.” and neither has Joe. But at least Dungy and Gruden have a couple of rings between them.

  35. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

  36. Bucs_Sam Says:

When you disagree with virtually everyone around you, that’s usually a good time to look at why you think what you do.

  37. delson Says:

The aaron rodgers comparison is what drives people crazy isn’t it? I’ll tell u why he gets that comparison. His ability to not turnover the ball, (some will say “But he fumbled 27/28 times” the fact that he runs is obviously a factor also the sacks he has taken but a fumble is a 50/50 shot at a turnover whereas a int is a 100% chance of being a turnover. Its easier to fix ball security than to question ur own decision making during the game or a 4th quarter drive.), another thing is his quick release, (not only does he have a quick release but very good ball placement. He will put it in a spot the receiver can catch turn n make a move in one seemingly fluid motion. He does that on the majority of his short throws. “But he throws screens n works with half of a field.” He motions to determine man or zone or to get favorable matchups, I see professional qbs using that method.), and last but not least the project that he is to become a pro style qb. I’d prefer if he learned for 2 years on the bench but I think he would only need one. He doesn’t come in with a lack of focus or rate as a guy who is easily distracted so one year on the bench should be all that is needed. Patience is a virtue and with mariota I think it would pay out ten fold. Anyways joe I appreciate the hardwork that u put in everyday at joebucsfan because it is the best way to get bucs news. Also cool to shoot the sh!t with other buc fans. I’m from nevada n buc fans are scarce! Jameis or marcus I’m lookin forward to a productive season this year

the thing is, though, that with the shake he got, he didn’t look inspiring AT ALL.

the truth is, had Glennon done his job last year and won more than one game, we likely wouldn’t have even been in this position. Glennon had his shot with the coach that wanted him here so desperately and he rewarded that coach with 4 uninspiring wins. He then had a forced shot with a coach that necessarily may not have wanted him here and he went 1-4 in those 5 games.

had he gone 3-2, i’d be willing to bet money that he would’ve gotten more opportunities.

I’m sure Lovie’s last straw was watching him run out of bounds 2 yards short of the first down on 4th down.

Just dont trade down or draft Williams. We need a quarterback. Even Mariota and his lack of a pro offense, even Winston and his off field stuff, is an up grade over Mccown or Glennon. So please, lets all be happy we get a choice between these two great quarterbacks.

  62. Skyline Crew Says:

I believe that most of the Mariota supporters have accepted that the Bucs are taking the 2nd best QB in this draft. We were just hoping to take the best QB.

ESPN Production Analyst produced a new model that projects Luck as the best QB over the past 3 drafts and would have moved EJ and others taken in the 1st down, while moving Wilson up from the 3rd round. That model has Mariota as projected better than Winston. The other QBs don’t even come close. Also, you have the analysts that have Mariota ranked over Winston, but have the Bucs taking Winston.

All I’m saying is I’m sure Winston will be a serviceable QB, but I was hoping to win some playoff games and possibly a SB in the next decade. Guess I’ll have to wait until the next QB drafted.

Are you kidding??? Gruden changed the offense(brought in 26 new players most offensive) and made it be accountable, otherwise Dungy would have won a SB already.
As for Indy’s problem, it was no defense(they were ranked 30th before Dungy), which was what Dungy changed and made them competitive. Manning didn’t win their SB(Manning had 250yds 1TD and I INT) without their defense.

You’re right. But, Koetter does. And, the truth of the matter is that he had his choice of landing spots. I highly doubt he would have signed on without having some sort of say in who the QB choice was. He will be the one grooming the QB and crafting the offensive scheme.

Yeah, I see it too Bucco.

  81. MadMax Says:

    On Landon Collins:

When Collins is on the field, it’s sort of a game of “Where’s Landon?”. Watch a game. Heck, watch one quarter of one game and try to find him from play to play. He’ll be a half field safety on one play. He’ll roll up into the box on another. He’ll rotate to the slot. He’ll line up at “big nickel/dime” linebacker. He’ll blitz the edge. He’ll be the last line of defense.

“Rarely do you ever see Collins out of position. Rarely do you see him bust an assignment. Rarely do you ever see him not giving 100% effort. Crazy as it sounds, that means a ton to coaches at all levels. Just do those things and a guy can play for a decade. Collins gets himself into position due in large part to an incredibly high, functioning football IQ. Most players like that don’t have the wherewithal to make splash plays, but Collins is always around the football. The “Where’s Landon?” game is easy once the ball is snapped because #26 finds a way to sniff it out. Sure, his man-to-man cover skills on whippet quick inside slot WR need work and, unfortunately, there might be too many habits to break to ever become a lockdown cover guy inside. But, his range, as a middle third or deep half safety, is more than adequate. He drives on throws with excellent footwork.

In short, he’s a complete safety or as complete as any team will find in this draft.

TPD are not the brightest bulbs, but, they are indiscriminate in their mistakes (see: Rachel Hoffman). However, the evidence collected and the investigative work done including the interviews with Erica’s friends all support Winston’s story and conflict with her 7+ versions of events.

The people that want to attack Winston refuse to even acknowledge the wealth of evidence that contradicts her over and over and over and over. Google “Jameis Winston Chapter 3”.

Believe what you want. But, come 8:15, Winston will be a Buccaneer.

Where do you get the idea that Koetter has a better track record with picking QB’s?

He was part of a team that burned the 10th overall pick on Blaine Gabbert.

Matt Ryan was well established in Atlanta before Koetter arrived.

  84. bucco brice Says:

    @MadMax…now i disagree with ya…having mark barron flashbacks, yikes!…and we have a good SS > mcdougald…

  85. iamkingsu Says:

    @OAR

Did you watch football that year?? That defense was all time horrible going into the post season that year. Until little 5 foot nothing Bobby sanders comesback for the playoffs and all of a sudden they look like gangbusters.

As for the superbowl in Miami that year in the rain. Once they didn’t kick it to hester anymore peyton knew he didn’t have to turn it over because that bear’s offense was pathetic. Its Peyton vs cover 2 enough said! He couldve shredded it if he had too

  86. robert 9 Says:

so love, your reasoning is she lied and can’t be trusted.

if that reasoning stands true with you.

why then would you choose to trust JW’s reasoning off the field?

#crablegs #vandalism/bb guns #stealing soda #rape or at the least (something very bad happened that night) #shoutingobscenitieswhilebeinginvestigatedforrape

please…………you say everyone else is one sided. look in the mirror my friend.

  87. Charlie7 Says:

For everyone who idiotically calls Jameis a rapist, riddle me this……How many victims of rape do you know who let their rapist take them home afterwards. And all who say they wont pull for or watch the Bucs with Jameis, can we get a signed letter from you so you can’t come crawling back when the Bucs are winning again?????? Go Bucs and most of all GO JAMEIS!!!!!

  88. bucco brice Says:

…don’t think we have to trade up in the 1st for OT….top guys gone but should have choice between Clemmings, Fisher or D.Smith > solid picks…maybe roll the dice on Ogbuehi…

  89. Andrew 1 Says:

uhhhh… Isn’t that Jersey supposed to say Winston on the back and not Jameis?

  90. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

Put me in the Gruden, Dungy, & Dominik camp…. I am in disblief that L & L would ever seriously consider drafting Winston over Mariota. THANK GOD IT’S FINALLY DRAFT DAY

  91. MadMax Says:

An undrafted FA, McDougald shined late in the year (more playing time after the Barron trade), but I just hope he gets better. I dont see Barron at all in Collins. His effort and football IQ reminds me of LVD.

  92. Buc1987 Says:

Erik…you are more like in serious denial.

  93. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @robert

Maybe you equate lying about rape to getting free crab legs, bb guns and internet memes. (for the record, something bad could mean a girl went home with 3 guys and had unprotected sex with one. It’s a broad statement by an old conservative Southern guy)

    I don’t.

More, no, MOST, importantly, OBP doesn’t. That’s what matters. If he excels on the field, stays quiet off the field, and does community service around Tampa, he’ll be fine. People are going to believe what they want about him.

I hope you get to at least see Free Free in preseason before he is cut by Miami.

    …….
Smh, there’s really no hope for some of you.

  95. robert 9 Says:

you continually call her a liar, yet you were not in the room.

no one knows what really happened. so it is YOU who are making biased statements.

in one breath you say the law is what vindicates winston…..then you say about the law when they say something you choose to ignore “broad statement by an old conservative Southern guy”

    so, which is it man????

the facts that ARE known are his incidents in question.

and if you really want to make it a black or white thing we can bring up the consistent degradation of white females by black males for conquest, making up for slavery??.. I don’t know what the hell it is, but if you don’t think it’s happening it’s you that are in denial. I mean…if we’re gonna stereotype….

  96. robert 9 Says:

and if you really think a guy with an ego the size of mount everest is going to “stay quiet”…..LOL

    thats funny man.

  97. Lord Cornelius Says:

“you continually call her a liar, yet you were not in the room.”

Don’t need to be in the room dude it’s very simple:

She lied about being hit on the head. She lied about being drugged. She lied about being blackout drunk. Those were all proven lies at various points via physical undeniable evidence and her own friends testimonies.

    Hence: Liar.

  98. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @robert

I can call her a liar because of the multitude of changing statements. When you 1) say you were drugged to police and investigators, 2) deny saying you were drugged at the COC hearing, then 3) Again say you were drugged for a documentary, that is blatant lying.

Hey before you try to sell me your Jump to Conclusions Mat, Old Conservative Southern guy does not have anything to do with race. An 80 year old black/ yellow/green man is not going to view things like a Millennial will.

You are the one the constantly injecting race into things. Oh, Keyshawn likes Winston, well it’s because he’s black. I can dredge up your direct quote on it.

As for this: “we can bring up the consistent degradation of white females by black males for conquest, making up for slavery??”

Wow. just wow. I will let that one stand on it’s on, in perpetuity. I have no idea what you are talking about, but, you clearly have some built up personal bias related to race.

Still, wow. No words for that slavery scenario. WOW.

I’m talking about off the field incidents. I hope he has a huge ego. I hope it’s a big as Brady’s ego.

Good to know you are going out with a bang.

  101. bucs4lyfe Says:

lol gruden admitted he was high on johnny manziel last year but he’ll never admit it that he said he’d take him first overall in the draft…..he has developed not one single quarterback and neither has dungy and considering they are out of football along with Dominick why go so far out on a limb it’s only going to further make you look foolish, if Winston plays better than mariota you’ll see them ducking and dodging talking about Winston all year long

  102. robert 9 Says:

ah well, some people like to play coy. others tell it like it is.

some use the law to their advantage, even though they’re the criminal

    such is America these days……

Some people are straight up racist. That has never changed.

  104. MadMax Says:

Alright, I just saw a live shot of Winston and he’s walking funny like he has a pulled muscle or wearing a brace on his leg…anyone know if he’s been injured?

  105. iamkingsu Says:

Enough is a fugging enough. Lets get the elephant out of the room now. I’m going to put this ish to bed once and for all.

Why is it everytime a black person goes through the american justice system and is vindicated a particular section of society seems to think he got away with something?? Or that the investigation was corrupt.

But at the sametime when a black male gets harassed beaten and/or killed by cops(sometimes even on camera) and due process is done and no charges are brought forth that same particular section of society says that justice was served.

When should we believe in our justice system?? Someone tell me because I’m confused

Just because you’re not calling him the N word to his face doesn’t mean you’re not a racist. Youre perception of him that makes you think he got away with something is what makes you a racist

  106. MadMax Says:

Im not participating in anything racially, politically, or religiously here at this time…..maybe another day. Nothing is getting in the way of enjoying this great day where we will FINALLY have our franchise QB with Winston.

  107. TpaBayFlyFisher Says:

News flash! Publix has pulled all crab products from its Tampa Bay area stores…………the NFC South and Titans cheer! Who was that gifted QB the Bucs took in the first round a few years ago? Big kid, strong arm who was compared to Big Ben……….oh wait he had off the field issues and failed in Tampa. Famous Crabby will be 2.0………..

  108. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Buccrightoff I would respond to you my friend but Buc4life said it best a few post before yours came in. Check him out, precisely how I feel.

  109. Dave Says:

I think inston…. bu it is all acrap shoot. Do’t get why people are so adamant and freaking out over which on. All you can do is hope the Buc did their research and get it right. Personally I think BOTH will be succesful, but who knows

It is going to be Winston though, he is ready to start

  110. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

So robert9 has finally revealed his true colors. Great work Love and Warrick Dunn. I kinda like being in the know when it pertains to certain elements in the room,I’m sure you know what I mean.

Oh its football were talking about? And here I thought it was baseball. If you don’t think Dungy and Gruden changed the Colts and Bucs enough to win their SBs then you are the one not watching football.
BTW “Its Peyton vs cover 2 enough said! He couldve shredded it if he had too”….but he DIDN’T! He pulled the usual Playoff Peyton and sucked!

Maybe they’ve just now revealed their colors to those that didn’t want to believe it, but I’ve known the truth about robert and barry from the beginning.

    Its hard to hide bigotry.

  113. Capt.Tim Says:

Great segment with Trent Dilfer, among others- showing fundamental difference between Mariota and Winston. Very enlightening.
Again showing that Mariota plays in a “catch and throw “offense.
Showed how Winston excels in red zone, and Mariota struggled.
Notes showing similar struggles with RG3, Johnny Manzeil, and others, who all came from that style offense-and all have struggled massively in NFL.
All agreed- you draft Mariota- you gotta let him sit for at least a year.

  114. Celly Says:

    @Capt.Tim…

Unless he’s drafted by the Eagles.

That is his best chance for early success…

  115. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Capt. Tim these folks got me hoping marita gose number two the titans so they can see for themselves the fraud he and anyone that comes from gimmick style offenses like that one really are.
