Bucs May Bring LB Home

Giants free agent linebacker Jacquian Williams, a Tampa native, is on the Bucs’ radar.

A Bucs area needing help outside of offensive line is linebacker (sans Lavonte David).

Incumbent MLB Mason Foster is a free agent, and all signs point to the Bucs letting him walk. Danny Lansanah, an outside linebacker, could play in the middle, but lukewarm reviews from both Bucs coach Lovie Smith and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier last season mean that is probably a last resort.

So, per Joe’s good friend “The Commish,” Justin Pawlowski of Scout.com, the Bucs may bring back home Jacquian Williams, a Tampa native and former USF linebacker who has recently played for the Giants.

Per Rotoworld.com, Williams, who started nine games for the Giants playing weakside linebacker, was an “every-down” player, landed on the injured reserve list with a concussion.

Williams had 78 tackles last season and three passes defended.

My bad–I thought you were talking about Colin MaCarthy

    he is ok

  3. Pickgrin Says:

We need to concentrate on finding a starting Middle linebacker. L. David is a fixture at Will and Lansanah and Lemon are fine for the Sam spot. We need a solid MLB. So unless Williams can start at Mike – we need to be focused on filling that spot.

    Colin McCarthy

Curtis Lofton was just cut by the Aints. Do the Bucs take a chance on a 28 year old LB?

hey…I’m for all the help the Bucs can get in FA and draft…. but I really think they will be missing the boat if they don’t go after Eric Kendricks in the draft… he looks like aq Luke Kuechly clone (a little shoreter is all)… winner of the Butkus award, great tackler, great in coverage..

  11. NJBucsFan Says:

It would be nice to be linked to/sign a name FA and not just resigning the players that brought us the 2-14 record.

  12. Jacko101 Says:

Agreed u guys, and I really like Kendricks.

  13. joeNUTS Says:

Really a USF guy? The ONLY good player USF ever produced was JPP. This is local chatter BS…

    its ridunkulous baby!

The fact there are no leaks concerning big contract offers from the Bucs says something, and that’s we are not going big like we did last year.

  15. Daniel Says:

Why Colin MaCarthy? If we don’t resign Mason because he couldn’t defend the pass why get another Mike who struggles in the passing game?

  16. Big Rob Says:

Why would the Bucs go after Custis Lofton whose knock the last time he was a free agent was that he couldn’t defend the pass at all? That’s not even going to be entertained by Bucs brass.

  17. Andrew 1 Says:

I think its a good thing that we are not going big like last year’s free agency. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years (or should have learned) its that being big spenders in free agency does NOT guarantee you a successful season. We’ve seen it time and time again that when teams spend big in free agency like the Redskins and Philly and even us in recent years, it does not translate into successes. Time to start building through the draft and using free agency to only fill a few areas of need.

Also, I wish Foster the best but he was not a good fit for this defense. Would love the see us draft Denzel Perryman in the second round. Some team is going to be very lucky to have him.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I always wondered how Foster would do at DE.

  19. gt40bear Says:

Do we REALLY want a LB with concussion issues? A linebacker? Sounds like the Bucs could be back to dumpster diving again…if this is true. Smdh

  20. Kybucsfan Says:

Why did the bucs always let good players go before having a replacement. I know foster not a good fit but his pretty good in a pinch. Know they will bring someone in and there will be a big learning curve. It always happens. Have they never heard the old saying u don’t quit a job without already having a other job in place.

  21. Kybucsfan Says:

I don’t know how to edit the post. But we did it with brooks, Rudd, lynch, black, sapp, and more. A young play needs to learn from the vets how to watch film, and practice.

Lofton is Mason Foster, Foster is Curtis Lofton
