Tampa Bay On Hard Knocks Watch List

January 6th, 2015

Outside of a full-moon stroll on a deserted island with Rachel Watson hanging on Joe’s every word, what could be more fun than watching Lovie Smith and friends on HBO’s Hard Knocks?

It could happen this year.

Unfortunately, Joe’s referencing Hard Knocks and the Bucs.

Sports Illustrated, aka SI.com, dropped the nugget.

2. For fans of HBO’s Hard Knocks, here’s the list of NFL teams eligible to be drafted by the league should no team volunteer to take part in the series: Giants, Redskins, Vikings, Bucs, Rams, Browns, Texans, Jaguars and Titans. The exemptions include teams with first-year head coaches, teams that have made the playoffs the last two seasons, and teams that have been featured on the series in the past 10 years.

Remember, the NFL picks the team, if one of those nine doesn’t volunteer. The Bucs would carry an awful lot of intrigue for the network and the NFL, as far as potential TV ratings are concerned, if they draft a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.

Joe would love to watch the Bucs on Hard Knocks. The cameras surely would catch Josh McCown crying at least once, and perhaps Michael Johnson counting his money.

I’m sure Lovie would hate the distraction but as a fan, I’d love it.

  2. BirdDoggers Says:

2-14 teams should be exempt from the list too.

  3. lightningbuc Says:

Actually, HBO loves cussing so they will probably not want the Bucs since Lovie don’t allow it!

  4. phreakybucfan Says:

I’ve only seen highlights of the show, but if the theme song is “it’s a hard knock life” then that pretty much sums up the buc fan experience for the last decade. I’m all for it.

  5. OB Says:

They would have to find Michael Johnson in order film the ghost.

I would love it since we might get to hear what Hardy Nickerson has to say and many the new OL coach.

  6. flmike Says:

I’m pretty sure HBO is gonna want a coach that speaks in actual sentences, you know using subjects, nouns, verbs and adjectives….

  7. mike Says:

wouldn’t hurt. Unfortunately we are the most irrelevent team in the nfl

  8. simeon 97 Says:

I like how if you make the playoffs you are not eligible, penalizing teams that stink like the bucs.

  9. gatrbuc17 Says:

Could someone please name a team for me that did well while Hard Knocks was in town????????????

  10. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Just read a report that the Bucs have offered Koetter the OC job. Any word Joe(s)?

  11. StPeteBucsFan Says:

If the Bucs take one of the Heismans with the #1 pick they’ll be the odds on favorites for Hard Knocks. If it’s Jameis bet the farm on it!!!!

Can you imagine the intrigue? Not only the normal athletic questions which would also effect Mariota…can they make it? What are the challenges for a Heisman QB trying to make it..the normal stuff.

If it’s Jameis they get the additional “juicy” stuff. Will they patrol the Mons on Jameis watch?

I want to grab one of the Heismans. I prefer Mariota…he has enough talent and the rest of the immeasurables are off the chart. I’ll accept Jameis as well because his athletic ability is simply undeniable. We’ll simply have to keep our fingers crossed and hope he doesn’t go all JFro.

Whatever if we pick Jameis…rightly or wrongly the circus will come to town.

Given that circus…the gamble on ANY #1 picks..why add to the risk..and the fact the Glazers are intimately familiar with what happens when your franchise QB turns out to be a head case…Freeman has set us back at least three years…

I simply do not see the Glazers pulling the trigger on Jameis. They may live to regret that…the may live to celebrate that decision…time will tell…but from this unknown side of the draft I just don’t see how anybody could pull the trigger on a MULTIMILLION dollar decision that will impact the franchise far, far more than simply the salary they pay that QB, can take the risk on Jameis if Marcus is available.

  12. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW I did not mean to diminish Jameis talent with a comparison to JFro. Jameis is far more talented than old cannon arm. I was never a JFro fan because I cringed everytime he missed on simply swing passes out of the backfield.

Dude had a cannon for an arm but we were never really sure what he would hit with that arm.

  13. buddhaboy Says:

    just sharted

  14. armchairGM Says:

Looks like Jameis informed FSU he is staying put and not entering the 2015 draft.

  15. armchairGM Says:

Per Gil Garcia and the Noles baseball team.

  16. MadMax Says:

Im all for it. And if Winston isnt declaring, then the trade price for our pick just went up A LOT!

I want them to trade it! Too many holes.

  17. DallasBuc Says:

No way. There is enough pressure on this teamto win 3 games.

  18. Louis Friend Says:

Redskins should be the favorite. A disgruntled QB, a confrontational head coach – and a piss poor front office putting the wrong kinds of players on the field. They’d be a ratings hit.

  19. port richey george Says:

I don’t think lovie smith has the personality for hard knocks.

  20. Louis Friend Says:

Mariota’s not going to be a big draw. He won’t see the field next year most likely. If you consider watching a draft choice learn how to play from the bench ratings material, go for it HBO.

  21. Skyline Crew for Mariota Says:

Hopefully, the Browns do it and then everyone can see Manziel and we don’t have to worry about the Bucs being on it. I swear the Hardknocks is like the kiss of death for the season. No team has done well after being featured on it.

  22. Skyline Crew for Mariota Says:

Maybe doing a Hard Knocks would be good for them. Then the fans would know if they were actually learning anything or just sitting around all day.

  23. bucs4lyfe Says:

bucs fans would enjoy it but it would bore everyone else to death because the truth is that tv is for drama is theres not one guy on this team close to the personality of a Terrell owens or chad Johnson. even Atlanta had some cocky attitudes, the entire receiving core….who is gonna be the aquib talib to talk smack to the receivers and rookie qb when he shuts them down in practice

  24. ArloPear Says:

Because it’s a stretch to repeat and for higher ratings it should be a toss up of the team that wins or loses the Super Bowl that does Hard Knocks. Although, I would like to see Lovie be forced to do it.

  25. Fuzzy Red Coin Purse Says:

It would help keep the interest up for the Bucs if they were on Hard Knocks. I’d pay the extra money for HBO to watch it. What’s all the noise about Marinelli coming here to coach? What will his title be? Co-Head Coach? Is Lovie demoting Frazier? Anyone heard?

  26. Ray Rice Says:

    DO IT!

  27. gt40bear Says:

Sounds about right. the NFL has been dumping on the Bucs since the beginning, why change now? Saddle their first roster with everybody’s cesspool rejects, no break between NFC Champ game & SB XXXVII, five preseason games with a trip to Tokyo mixed in, having to open SB defense in Philly and NOT at home and on and on and… So why not throw the Jerry Springer of the NFL on them too while they are trying to recover from the crap storm that was this past season! I know I’m putting my cart before the pissed off horse but I can EASILY see the Nazi Football League doing this to my beloved losers! Maybe as a payback they can get the officials to pick up a few flags next season…oh wait, forgot its the Bucs, they are supposed to throw MORE flags
    for phantom penalties!

  28. DB55 Says:

Marietta reportedly is not entering draft but staying home to pick pineapples w hawaiibuc

  29. Cascade Says:

    Please, no.

  30. Megadaveuk Says:
