“I’ll Bet He Starts To Fall On Draft Day”

January 22nd, 2015

WinstonMariota

NFL Network and the NFL.com team are busy talking quarterbacks with scouts and movers and shakers at the Senior Bowl.

Last night’s NFL.com nuggets on top prospects shared perspective on Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, a man about a quarter of Bucs fans want Tampa Bay to draft with the No. 1 overall pick.

The scoop: “All these teams high in the draft are all going to see the same things on tape with Mariota, and I’ll bet he starts to fall on draft day. Once that happens, (Philadelphia Eagles coach) Chip (Kelly) will mortgage the future to go get him. If he misses on him, (Kelly) can just bolt back to college.” — AFC scout.

The skinny: While it might be premature to label Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota as a “draft day slider” before the NFL Scouting Combine or even his personal workout, we’ve seen the same concerns on tape that everyone else is seeing in terms of his anticipation, pocket poise and simplicity of scheme. Kelly recruited Mariota to Oregon to run his offense, and we’re sure he would love to have a quarterback with Mariota’s ability outside of the pocket to fully unlock the Eagles’ offensive potential. Would Kelly be willing to risk the king’s ransom it would likely take to move that far up from pick No. 20?

Take a deep breath, Mariota Mob. There’s still time for Mariota to rise above his game film via the interview process with teams, and official workouts and visits.

NFL clubs are yearning to run Mariota through drills of NFL-style dropbacks and throws to better determine just how long — or short — Mariota’s learning curve might be.

  1. Bucs4lyfe Says:

    I think when these two quarterbacks have their college pro day workout, more than likely bucs will be working them out also which means we’ll know who they will draft or if they will trade down. if they decide to draft one there’s no point on waiting until draft day to get a contract worked out. get him in get him a playbook and let him get to work the sooner the better

  2. armchairGM Says:

    I think private workouts are even more telling than the combine or pro days. A team can really run a guy through what they want out of him and can have him answer questions they may have him on the field. Also around this time I don’t believe anything a scout says as they may either build up a prospect or tear them down in hopes of them falling or teams gaining interest in them. There is also a report about 8 NFL scouts and various GM’s being scared of Winston and they would not touch him, is this really true or are people putting smoke screens out there? Draft time is a silly part of the season filled with lies and posturing.

  3. lions Says:

    Yeah bet the Jets and all the NFL.com comrades out of New York will do whatever they can to have this be the qb that slides. Will the Bucs fall for that nonsense?

  4. mike Says:

    yeah, we saw this last year with teddy b, once the private work outs started he started to slide. Of course, teddy b looks pretty damn promising.

  5. Bucs4lyfe Says:

    Hopefully bucs stay out of the news and the rumor mills coming from other nfl teams and rely on their own eyes, pro day, private workout and interviews. if they pick Winston or mariotta you really cant kill the team saying a bad decision because these are the best quarterbacks in the draft and quarterback is the biggest need

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

    Mariota, Winston, and every other player in the Draft will rise and fall and slide sideways at least a half a dozen times between now and draft day….it’s always that way. The keys are going to be the combine and the individual workouts these guys do for the teams. Until those happen, anyone who thinks they can predict who will go where is just blowing smoke!

  7. HawaiianBuc Says:

    All that teams need to know is already on tape. Pro days and combines, especially for QB’s, are just a way to overthink things. For Winston, I know he can throw the football. All I’m concerned about with him is his character. If I’m the Bucs, I focus all my efforts on that. If that checks out, this is the easiest decision you could possibly make. For Mariota, there’s really no way to determine if he is going to be an effective NFL QB by watching him at a combine or pro day. You just can’t simulate a game, with 300 pound guys trying to kill you.

  8. Tom Edrington Says:

    You will hear TONS of stuff like this prior to the draft….always happens….

    Pay no attention to the smoke screens….

    Lovie convinces everyone to trade down and takes a defensive player…..wouldn’t that be a hoot?

  9. pick6 Says:

    as a plus, for once i will actually care about Gruden’s QB Camp annual silly season show on ESPN

  10. cmurda Says:

    Can you guys imagine if Joe left comments on for the Black Box Thread. There would be several hundred comments. I guess I’m not like most mine just goes straight twilight zone with a big black box of nothingness. No Rich Eisen commercial. Just empty space with a big X.

    Anyway, Mariota will slide. I guarantee it. But I don’t expect an avalanche of a slide. The Jets would draft basically any QB at this point. It’s all about working the angles for one’s best interest. I believe about 2.5% of what I hear especially when it comes from a scout or even better, an agent. Chip Jelly will need to get to #1 if he wants to guarantee himself Mariota or he will need to hope Mariota gets by Tennessee, trade with Tennessee or trade with the Jets or move in front of them. I just don’t think the Jets go anywhere but QB. As surreal as this is, they are actually in worse shape at the position than we are.

  11. HawaiianBuc Says:

    “Lovie convinces everyone to trade down and takes a defensive player…..wouldn’t that be a hoot?”

    ——-

    People can be critical of Lovie, because he went 2-14. However, I don’t know if people have conveniently forgotten that this defensive coach we have (that apparently couldn’t care less about offense) drafted 100% offense in last year’s draft. That was the first time in franchise history. Amazing how people still believe he would want a defensive player with our top pick.

  12. Dewey Selomon Says:

    I would spread the word that we love mariota just to see what Kelly wants to offer. Then I would draft Winston to qb the offense and trade back into the 1st rd and grab perryman to qb the defense. Lb’s #51 #52 #54.

  13. SuperSam Says:

    Great article on why spread option quarterbacks don’t have to sit and learn for a year, that’s such bull%^&*. Its an empty excuse that doesn’t hold water, http://www.bucsnation.com/2015/1/22/7871607/nfl-draft-2015-marcus-mariota-does-not-need-to-sit-early-in-his-career

  14. iamkingsu Says:

    @anti Winston Klan

    I said this after the rams loss week 2 so I’m going to remind everyone again beware of BrettHundley. It’s almost that time of year where you trade in pads for basketball shorts. He’s going to wow everyone with his arm and he’ll probably run the fastest 40(10 yard split). He will fly up draft boards and replace Mariota as the number 2 qb prospect. So I don’t want to hear his name if/when Mariota slides throughout this process. I’m already aware of his skill set So I do not want to hear this guy’s name come up as a reason to trade down!

    Thanks in advance,
    King

  15. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Joe is having the opposite effect on me than he wishes. He’s not moved me totally into the trade down and load up.

    4 of 27 Heisman QB’s have worked out. That’s beyond dismal. 54% of first round 50% of second round draft picks work out.

    I’m not firmly in the Bobby Beathard school of drafting. Increase your odds of success by multiplying your picks.

    Jamies is NOT Andrew Luck. He’s already looking pudgy, he slings the ball like Byron Leftwich, and there are the well documented character issues.

    If we came away with Andrus Peat at Left tackle and Perryman for middle linebacker we would already have a great draft and if we’ve traded down we could get them both and save most of our other choices.

    Joe is not being consistent. If Johnny Flash in the Pan and Bridgewater were good enough for him than Hundley and Petty are worth a flyer. And in fact if you look at stats and stop the emotion Glennon would be OK for another year with Koetter there to help.

    Peat is a Franchise LT and I think Perryman could be another London Fletcher.
    I love guys who are too short and therefore fall in the draft. Can you say Russell Wilson? That was the entire knock against him. Get Perryman and Peat and we have two positions set for a decade barring injury.

    @iamking

    @anti Winston Klan

    FREAKING SHAME ON YOU!! If you can’t make your points with actual facts instead of innuendos about racism you’re a p!ss poor debater.

    “Famous” Jameis has created his OWN reputation not us. If you’ve got your head so far up his posterior that you can no longer see reality just give it a freaking rest.

    I’m getting really tired of racism..KLAN…and hater. Just because all of us do not bow to your unquestioned and clearly demonstrated wisdom doesn’t make us haters or racists.

    Your use of these accusations actually makes YOU the freaking racist. You are the equivalent of a girl who cries rape when she wasn’t raped.

    If you can’t stand people’s opinions that differ from yours give it a rest!

    I’m not in the Klan, I have a black niece, and I do not HATE Jamies. I do have serious questions about investing a #1 draft pick on Jameis or Marcus and I’ve carefully listed the reasons why.

    I have only seen one poster here use the inappropriate term “thug” which clearly does have racial implications. ONE!!! Yet you Jameis jock sniffers need to get on board a freaking wambulance.

    People can disagree about Jameis without being haters or racists!!!

  17. Barry Says:

    Winston = ThugNasty #RedFlags

  18. HawaiianBuc Says:

    Barry = HumanTrash #WhiteSheet

  19. HawaiianBuc Says:

    I am obviously for us drafting Winston, but probably my favorite anti-Winston guy is StPeteBucsFan. There’s nothing racist about anything I’ve ever seen him say. He just doesn’t trust him, which I totally understand. I might disagree, but his opinion is a valid one, and I’ve never seen anything to believe race is even a tiny factor.

    There are some (ahem Barry) that are against Winston because of race, but it’s not fair to lump everyone against Winston into that category. There isn’t one player available that everyone is going to agree with. Even if we had the opportunity to get Luck, I guarantee you there would be some against it. It’s just the way it works.

  20. Bucfan4life Says:

    Lol @ StPete and his 4 of 27 heismans have worked out comment. That statement is just idiotic. It would have been like saying Luck will be a bust because they haven’t had a good QB come out of Stanford since ’83 or that the stock market will go up (or down) if an AFC team wins the Super Bowl. The two things are not related. A majority of heismans aren’t even legitimate prospects in the NFL. Several of them never even get drafted. Nobody is saying take Winston because he won a heisman, they believe he has a chance to be a franchise QB. He just happened to be far and away the best player in college that year.

  21. tiny tim Says:

    You are the equivalent of a girl who cries rape when she wasn’t raped.

    So you mean to tell me you Winston bashers believe this type of girl exist, yet you can’t believe that was the possibility in Winston’s situation………interesting

  22. Soggy Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan, I hear ya and it is becoming a daily thing with the race card crap with a few posters in here but they have no problem bashing white folks like they are the devil himself, It is easy to see right through them all anyone has to do is read their comments on every story joe puts out.. They call people racist but it is really them.. I am tired of it too..

  23. Josh P Says:

    @StPete and to say he looks pudgy is ridiculous…Have you seen the recent pics of him working out in Cali? looks like hes lost about 10 pounds… don’t make comments just to make comments…

  25. Erik with CleanAthletics.com Says:

    I definitely thought this article would have been about Winston falling. Bcuz that is much more after the interview process.

  26. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    @SPBF is definitely my favorite Jameis hater. For the most part he’s reasoned.

    Now, I know that he HATES being called a hater, but it’s clear from his posts that he’s just looking for reasons to hate on Jameis. From being completely wrong about why it was that Jameis said a naughty word to being completely wrong about what happened with the videotaping, he’s very willing to believe anything negative said about Jameis without actually looking into the facts.

    SPBF isn’t a racist…he just is a Jameis hater for whatever reason. He’s still a good poster in these threads

  27. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    Whoever said that Winston is looking “pudgy” really needs to take a look at that link Josh P just posted.

    Another Jameis hater just spouting off nonsesne

  28. Erik with CleanAthletics.com Says:

    The Glazers will never be stupid enough to draft Winston. Get over the fantasy.

  29. Erik with CleanAthletics.com Says:

    I personally don’t care about race, but mostly every black guy I know wants Jameis and mostly every white guy wants Mariota. And what’s also interesting is that a person’s character also seems to be an influencing factor on who they’d draft. It seems like the good, moral, principle-based people want Mariota and want nothing to do with Winston. And basically everyone of lesser character wants Winston…. I guess that makes sense, but I still think Jameis has a higher bust potential.

  30. ADown88 Says:

    “You are the equivalent of a girl who cries rape when she wasn’t raped.”

    I find it hilarious you would use this example and then proceed to bash Winston. The guy has never been charged for a crime. Get over yourself.

    Correction, this is the most ridiculous post ever on joebucsfan.com

  33. HawaiianBuc Says:

    Yes, that is ridiculous. I’m white and I want Winston. I’m from Hawaii, and I still prefer Mariota. What an incredible over-generalization. You should meet more people.

  34. ADown88 Says:

    @Erik with CleanAthletics.com

    I base who I want from what I see on the football field. I’m white and I want Jameis. I’ve never been arrested and I go to school and have a great job, I still want Jameis. I was born and raised in Brandon, FL, hardly a ghetto, I still want Jameis.

    And I’ll say it again, Jameis has never been charged with anything. Is he a bit immature? Sure he is… but he is still a kid. Everyone says he is a fun loving, good hearted and hard working kid.

  35. ADown88 Says:

    @tiny tim

    I agree. Stupid.

  36. Bucfan4life Says:

    Lol. So to sum up Erik just said only back people like Winston and only people of low moral character like Winston. If those statements are true (in his world) then I guess there is only one conclusion to be made from his formula. Wow!

    For what it’s worth I’m white and I believe I have high moral character. Yet I still like Winston as the pick. The man was never even charged with rape because of inconsistencies in the girls story. Don’t you think there is a chance that maybe he did not do this.

    No matter how you feel about Winston anyone that thinks the Bucs should take Mariota first overall doesn’t really know football.

  37. Bucfan4life Says:

    Sorry that was meant for Tiny Tim not Erik

    @Tiny tim

    So you mean to tell me you Winston bashers believe this type of girl exist, yet you can’t believe that was the possibility in Winston’s situation………interesting

    Great debating skills Tiny. Look up hyperbole. There are GM’s and plenty of other PROFESSIONAL NFL types who question whether Jameis is worth the risk. That is NOT BASHING! It’s a legitimate statement of opinion based on Jameis actions. I’ve NEVER said Jameis was guilty of rape. MOST, not all of the other posters worried about drafting Jameis have not dwelled on rape ACCUSATIONS. It doesn’t have to be illegal to be stupid, immoral and lacking in character.

    He had his buds video him doing a girl. Even if she wanted to star in his porno flick that’s just dumb. As far as morality and character everybody can make their own decisions. I’m not in charge of morality. But I am smart enough to hear and see how other people feel. If he had done this as the face of the franchise there’s a great chance that video(which would be worth mega bucks) would show up on TMZ and the internet. That’s NOT HATING. It’s a simple statement of fact about risk versus reward. IF that video had shown up on the internet do we think Goodell might have something to say? How about the Glazers?

    Then there are the other actions. Crab legs…I accept a misunderstanding..wrong manager on duty. BB guns…kids will be kids.

    The cursing on campus…tasteless at worst normally, but when you and an entire program are under the shadow of a rape INVESTIGATION (even if innocent) that shows a total disrespect for FSU and his teammates.

    Those are all LEGITIMATE reasons for worry!

    I have accepted that many here feel it’s STILL worth the gamble. The could very well be correct. Time will tell.

    hate
    hāt/Submit
    verb
    1.
    feel intense or passionate dislike for (someone).

    I have just posted FACTS I’ve never met Jameis. I have ZERO personal feelings about him good or bad. I’m not passionate about Jameis either pro or con I do not dislike him. The clip of the ducks and otheers lead me to believe that he could very easily be a very likable young man who just screws up repeatedly. And all of his handlers, coaches and friends are co dependent for making Jameis think FAMOUS=NOT ACCOUNTABLE.

    I defy any of you to dispute the facts I’ve just laid out. Tiny Tim does not get to speak for us and then convict on what the eff he just said we said!!~!!

  44. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Creamsickle and Josh P

    I accept your points and stand corrected. I haven’t seen those pics of Jameis and if he’s dropped 10lbs kudos to him and points for suggesting he’s taking this draft seriously.

    I’m happy he’s dropped 10lbs. That’s a good thing.

    Joe – please do something about this black screen that takes over with just about every click on your site.

    —–

    I’ve heard about him “looking fat”… it looks like he’s wearing a flak-jacket to me. It’s kind of hard to look fit and trim when you’re wearing heavy padding around your midsection. If people think he still looks fat, check out his baseball pics… he looks smashing 🙂

    If anybody other than me remembers correctly, JaMarcus Russell came to the NFL Combine looking like a division NAIA OG and weighing 265 lbs.. I stated then that he lacked any kind of dedication and that he would eat himself out of the league inside of 5 years (I think he lasted 4). That was a huge red flag. If Winston indeed has lost 10 lbs, it shows that he is definitely taking his fitness very seriously and wants to be in the best possible shape for his upcoming evaluations. Kudos to him.

  47. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @LWD

    “In subsequent interviews, including one without a lawyer, Casher admitted trying to tape Winston and the woman with a cell phone and perhaps trying to see if he could join them.”

    That comes from the Lakeland newspaper. I could google some more but I think you agree that nobody denies that there was sex. The only argument is whether or not it was consensual.

    I have no problem with Winston supporters pointing out that the girl left of her own free will and they believe the sex was consensual. And in fact given what I’ve read I agree. I don’t KNOW because I wasn’t there but he was never charged and innocent until proven guilty! I think we agree there.

    But he and his buds admitted to CONSENSUAL sex. That’s not illegal. But it shows horrid judgement and if he had been the “Face of any franchise” besides FSU at that point he would have risked the video going viral. IF that had happened or should happen in the future he will not be able to simply smile and say young stupid mistake.

    But AGAIN I’ve NEVER been an absolutist about not selecting Jameis. I do not believe his “youthful indiscretions” totally disqualify him.
    But they ARE cause for SERIOUS concern.

    Given all that I’ve read since then, Bobby Beathard’s philosophy, the fact that roughly 50% of first and second round draft picks are busts, I’ve moved to the trade down school and pick up extra picks. Not because I HATE Jameis, not because I am a racist neither Marcus nor Jameis are white but because I like the odds of more picks and I simply do not believe either of these QB’s is worth the cost of a #1. Remember the actual cost for picking either Jameis or Marcus first will not just be that pick…but all the picks we could have had if we go another direction.

  48. tiny tim Says:

    @ SaintPete buc

    I’ve been reading many posters opinion and the word rapist comes up all the time when discussing Jameis. You may not call him a rapist, but many do. I find it funny that there are so many judgemental people who speak from a fact standpoint when none of us were in the room. To continue to speak or write as fact is just comical.

    And just because you think it is dumb to video tape yourself having sex it does not mean it is. That is a preference and last I checked taping yourself having sex is not a crime. You can’t heap your moral standards on everybody. So is Godell suppose to suspend someone for having sex? You sound crazy. We all have sex. Now if Jameis puts the tape out himself then yea, I see your point. If someone hacks his phone like the idiots that hacked all the sexy stars phone and blast their nudes all over the internet, I do not blame the stars for taking naked pictures. I blame the hackers. So to answer your question, if a sex tape come out with WIntston in it, it does not mean he was at fault.

    And I can careless who you think I speak for……I speak for myself period.

  49. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    This is snippets from Casher’s statment at his Code of Conduct Hearing:

    “I entered and attempted to record mostly as a joke with my friend Jameis, but I should never have assumed that his female guest would feel comfortable with my presence in the room

    I had no ill will, but I also had no place in Jameis’ room that evening. I am embarrassed by my conduct, and I apologize to Ms. (redacted), Jameis, my fellow teammates, and the university for my actions.”

    So, your contention that Jameis “He had his buds video him doing a girl. ” is erroneous as a FACT.

    Not even the accuser ever alleged that Jameis told anyone to tape anything. She even said that his door had a broken lock and the roommates entered on their own volition.

    The point being, portraying Jameis to have someone tape the sex is obviously casting him in a negative light. It’s far different than someone coming in and taping it without his approval.

    So, since you went and defied anyone to point out fact from non-fact, I felt the need to point that out.

    And, that’s part of the bigger problem, you have all sorts of people claiming this and that as fact on the internet. Even the profanities incident has a ton of speculation and unproven indictments, but, people claim to know exactly what happened and where it happened. It’s not quite that cut and dried.

  50. tiny tim Says:

    Now that I think of it, if I was Jameis, I would video tape my sex sessions every time. That way when judgmental people like on this site want to call him a rapist, he could just play the video and shut everybody up. But according to St petebuc, he would get suspended by Goddell for having sex.

  51. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @LWD

    Great points. Thanks for the facts. I stand corrected. Jameis biggest error then is in having poor friends and allowing them in the room with him?

    @Tiny Do you even read my posts or simply react because I bring up inconvenient facts? Let’s compare shall we.

    I said…As far as morality and character everybody can make their own decisions. I’m not in charge of morality.

    You said…You can’t heap your moral standards on everybody.

    Now do you understand my frustration. My point isn’t whether these things are right or wrong but what the reaction to them might be.

    Is it’s your contention that a leaked or hacked tape of Jameis having CONSENSUAL sex pops up on TMZ and goes viral on the internet that NOTHING will happen?

  52. Bucfan4life Says:

    A star QB at a major university who is not married had sex with a woman!!!! OH MY GOD! Surely pro athletes don’t do this so Goodell would have to suspend him indefinitely! C’mon StPete come back to reality! SMH!

  53. Josh P Says:

    @StPete again they weren’t in the room with them. The door wouldn’t lock properly so Cashier cracked it open an was filming on his own. And after that took place they actually moved to the bathroom so he couldn’t record them any longer

    And i don’t know about all of you but im sure a large portion on here had sex in college in their bedroom while their buddies happened to be out in the living room.

  54. tiny tim Says:

    @ SaintPete

    Yea something will happen. People like you will be up in arms when the rest of the world won’t care because it is an act that we all do. Again, if a hacked tape of him pops up on TMZ, you can’t blame him for that. WHat? A grown man can’t make a porno of himself and still be a QB in the nfl? Come on now.

  55. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Tiny

    Again the need to make it personal and again a real lack of reading comprehension on this blog!!!! And not just you Tiny!!

    Again I said…As far as morality and character everybody can make their own decisions. I’m not in charge of morality. But I am smart enough to hear and see how other people feel.

    What freaking part of that do you not comprehend? The part where I said everybody can make up their own mind? Perhaps the sentence where I said, “I’m not in charge of morality”.

    Cmon guys use some critical thinking skills. If you disagree with the part where I said “I’m smart enough to hear and see how other people feel” then pick on that sentence.

    If you believe a Jameis sex video when he’s the “face of the franchise” would be nothing then make your point. We can always agree to disagree.

    We are in new world in the NFL. A post Ray Rice world. I’m NOT SAYING that’s right or wrong or moral or immoral or fair or not. I’m simply saying it is what it is!

    I don’t mind people attacking my points. I do mind people calling me a hater, racist, and putting words in my mouth that I CLEARLY have not said or even suggested.

  56. ADown88 Says:

    Its not a crime and there is nothing in the rule book stating that you can’t tape yourself having sex… So besides BSPN and TMZ making money off of it and making me wanna kill myself because they would talk about it nonstop, no, nothing would happen.

  57. Luther Says:

    Too much being made of the video. Brett Favre sent a picture of his and I’m sure Green Bay fans are just loving all the winning football and rarely even talk about the picture. I’m sure Winston was too busy to film himself with a phone so I wouldn’t say that “he” did it on purpose.

  58. Bucfan4life Says:

    I would suggest you just move on StPete. Pro athletes have many more opportunities with women than us mere mortals and a good number of them like to indulge. It would be a non issue and you defending your stance is only making it worse. It’s an absurd premise to say an athlete having consensual sex would be bad in the Ray Rice era! The two are not related and the NFL would have to close up shop due to lack of players if they tried to police athletes having sex. Just move along and pretend like you never wrote that silly stuff.

  59. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Yes Bucfansforlife A sex video of the face of the franchise would be just another day in TMZ land.

    Nobody HERE would give a crap. You all confuse yourselves. You’re football fans. Some of you would take any player that could win.

    This is not about what I think of the incident. It’s about how it would play out in the future. Some people do not like porno stars. Many here including me have no problem with them. But the Bucs play for a far far larger demographic than the JBF crew But live in denial and toss around the ad hom if somebody dares make a point against your guy.

  60. HawaiianBuc Says:

    StPete is a good poster. He brings up tons of valid points, and I haven’t seen an ounce of what I would call a “hater” in him. He just doesn’t trust Jameis.

    As for the porn thing (never thought I would type those words of a football blog), I don’t think a sex tape from an athlete is really that big of a seller in TMZ land. These athletes aren’t really as famous as we make them out to be sometimes. I promise you there are a ton of sex tapes from athletes out there, but nobody really cares, unless they are banging someone more popular. Obviously there are a few exceptions (probably Tebow or Manziel), but overall, it’s not really going to move the needle. If it did, I agree with StPete that it would be a bad thing for the Bucs.

  61. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Hawaiian

    All good points and thanks for a thoughtful response.

  62. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BTW Hawaiian and other Jameis supporters.

    Hawaiian is correct. I’m just fearful of using a #1 = 2 1’s and 2 2’s on either of these QB’s.

    Having said that I’m already on the record as saying if we take a QB I agree it should be Jameis. They are BOTH huge risks but some feel nothing ventured nothing gained and that’s a valid view. If we MUST roll the dice then I will join the Jameis supporters.

  63. HawaiianBuc Says:

    ^^^ That’s a real fan ladies and gentlemen.

  64. Tiny Tim Says:

    @SaintPete

    My comprehension skills are fine but thanks for asking. What you can’t seem to comprehend is that a sex tape won’t mean a thing. Take your morality out the equation, I can care less what espn, fox news or anybody has to say about a sex tape. Its stupid when the media makes it news and it has no bearing of if a grown man can be the “face of your franchise.” He is a man after all. What does a man do? He has sex!!! Jeter probably has a bunch of sex tapes (at least I would if I had some of the chicks he had). Wake up!!!

  65. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Tiny Tim,

    You might not care, but others will. It wouldn’t mean much to me either, but the NFL is a business. They don’t want that kind of negative light on them. Just because people have sex, doesn’t mean it should be out there for public consumption. We all curse, but cursing isn’t on regular TV. Same thing. There’s a lot of young football fans that really don’t need to hear about their favorite player and a sex tape. Just not a good look.

  66. IStillbleedOrange Says:

    StPeteBucsFan, I respect your views and actually read your posts. I ask you this, however:

    At what point does one stop trying to save the Lemmings from the fall at the end of the cliff?

    Just saying.

  67. Fort Myers Dave Says:

    Lion said: “Yeah bet the Jets and all the NFL.com comrades out of New York will do whatever they can to have this be the qb that slides. Will the Bucs fall for that nonsense?”

    I agree shame on the Jets for actually going to Tennessee and beating a tanking Titans team to fall out of the race for #1; I guess Ryan still thought that 4-12 or 5-11 might save his job…… Imagine if the NFL had a lottery like the NBA? Something tells me that the Bucs and Titans would somehow miss out on the #1 and #2 overall and those picks would be refrigerated envelopes from the Jets and Giants…..

  68. Sick of this $hit Says:

    @ St Pete @ Hawaiian @ Tiny Tim and @ all the others

    Thank you. That was some pretty good back and forth. That’s why I come to this site.

  69. Bill Says:

    For the last 2 years ESPN has served as a professional PR agency aimed at defaming Jameis Winston (and FSU). It wasn’t until 2 weeks ago Jameis Winston was capable of fighting fire with fire.

    Think about that. It is an unprecedented situation… a heisman candidate and eventual national champion plays for a team that rivals the financial interest of the biggest media network in sports.

    Will the PR group for Winston be busy in the coming months? Absolutely, they should be, they’re 2 years behind the giant that is ESPN.

    As Bucs fans, how willing are we to acknowledge this scenario? As a Seminole fan, I can tell you this scenario is very real.

  70. White Tiger Says:

    Thats ok, hewont fall as far as a moronic kid who has to bent old to reign in his rapist desires in order to get drafted.

    Like I said before, both of these kids have so far to go – they’re virtually starting from the same place – granted, they don’t have to work on the same issues that need to be addressed.

    If I’m the Bucs, there’s no way I buy a guy who’s upside is Byron Leftwich, and whose downside is Ryan Leaf…

    The kid who wears green is a horse of a different color.

  71. White Tiger Says:

    Last I checked, they don’t pay your for prison ball….

    Mariota, the only guy who won’t get your team indicted…

  72. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Istillbleedorange

    At what point does one stop trying to save the Lemmings from the fall at the end of the cliff?

    Just saying.

    LOL. You are absolutely correct. I take your point and admit or agree that I have reached that point albeit admittedly too late. It’s my Irish upbringing. We love to debate but of course intellectually you are absolutely correct.

  73. tiny tim Says:

    @ Hawaiian

    And I continue to tell you those who will have a problem with a grown man having sex have problems/issues of their own if they do care. What a man does in the privacy of his own home is none of my nor anybody else’s business. Again, if his phone/computer is hacked and a sex tape is leaked. You can not blame the player for that. I am really not understanding why you guys can not comprehend that. Blame the true culprits which would be the hackers and not the man who was enjoying himself in the privacy of his own home.

  74. Crimson_Warrior Says:

    Ok let’s get down to some facts. Jameis is a better leader and he’s more NFL ready all that character crap just stop…every one of us was an idiot in college and if you weren’t then you probably still sleep in the bed with your mom. If Tampa passes on Winston we will regret it for a long time. I don’t really feel like taking chance on Marcus Mariota.

  75. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Just wait til he kills it at the combine and has one of the best interviews out of all the draft eligible players. Not worried one bit on this one. Jameis will prob run a 4.7 or 4.8 and MM will run a 4.4 or 4.5 at the absolute worst. His agility drills will be near or at the top of the charts. And I am very confident he will be able to make all the throws teams require him to throw on individual workouts. This is all just speculation of course. You can’t teach his athleticism or arm. You can teach the fundamentals on becoming a NFL QB and with his work ethic. He will be first in and last out everyday.

    Once he starts watching film everyday and working with his coaches and teammates. All those things can improve. The best quality he has is whats inside his chest. He has a Russell Wilson esq heart and drive to be the best he can be and to win. I love this kid. None of these statements can I say about Shameis…

  76. Bucfan4life Says:

    Threw a curveball their funky. Was sure you were talking about Jameis at first. Sorry but I don’t think MM will even be in the conversation for the number one pick by the time the draft rolls around. Athleticism, raw potential, and playing a system that makes him a total gamble is not what teams are looking for with a number one pick.
