Secondary Isn’t Changing For Lions

Bucs secondary won’t change its ways, says Alterraun Verner.

OK, so the Bucs are going to face perhaps the most formidable one-two punch of receivers in the NFL right now. That is Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate of the Lions.

The Bucs, in case you haven’t heard, have really turned around their defense since the bye week. In fact, the Bucs have gone from a truly putrid pass defense to one of the NFL’s best. Since their bye, no team has allowed fewer passing yards (196) per game.

But with Johnson and Tate looming, one would think the Bucs might have a match-up defense ready for the Lions. Not at all, said Bucs cornerback Alterraun Verner.

“We have to be able to compete. (Last Sunday safety Bradley McDougald) goes out and gets the ball,” Verner explained. “’OK, I have to go out and get the ball.’ That’s what they tell us to do. So just because we are going against Calvin Johnson isn’t going to take away from our job to go get the football. [Johnson] will just be more of a hurdle or an obstacle to get around. At the end of the day, we are out there to go out and get the football. That is the way we are going to go about it.”

It sort of makes sense. You know: if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. And given the Bucs are tops in the NFL since the bye in passing yards allowed, why monkey with success?

This will be a helluva test Sunday. Some Bucs fans scream at Joe that the Bucs haven’t faced a decent passing team since the bye. Stopping the Lions will put those cries to rest.

Hey Joes. I come to your site multiple times every day. Today I have had enough of the black pop up ads on the bottom of my mobile page. I waited several days for this to go away. I am not coming back here until it is gone. I will check next week.

OK. Have a nice day. Joe will not end his partnership with Yahoo! that delivers some the small black bar at the bottom of the screen. –Joe

    Poor mans Revis…know what I mean….Vern…..er….
comes at a high price when counting W&L’s…..instead of $$$$

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Matt Bryant named player of the month. So glad we got rid of that guy… 😉

Bucs will lose this next game. But that’s a good thing, assuming the Glazers MAKE Lovie draft a QB.

    @RastaMon

Seriously, Revis was not doing all that good for us either. Better perhaps, but not by much.

Of all the things to get upset about PA, yours is truly one of the more hilariously absurd ones.
I bet if Joe made this a pay site so he wouldn’t have to have pop up ads you would say, “I’m not paying for that site just so I can post stupid remarks.”
You are one of those ” fans” I refer to out here who are both cheap or lazy. I bet you have never even paid to see the Bucs play at RJS yet you complain and complain about how they play although it doesn’t really effect you at all.
Bugged about pop up ads. LOL. What a simpleminded twit you are.
Joe, thanks for the site and if selling ads is what pays the bills and puts food on your table so you can provide this site for free, then god speed to you, sir.
BTW, always listen to you on Duemig at the expense of

    @Bonzai,

That is where I disagree with you. Revis played very well with us, but most of his TD’s were breakdowns with our secondary (for example, he was expecting safety help, but none was there). He rarely had the ball thrown his way otherwise, especially since the rookie CB on the other side was also on an island, due to us blitzing every play.

ddneast… you are the judge of fans only in your own mind. That’s it. Who died and made you boss?

  8. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Rasta, I don’t like the ads either, but they pay the bills for the Joe’s, so I put up with them.

  9. Pickgrin Says:

Many teams will match up their best CB most of the day on a receiver like Johnson. That would be Banks in our case because of his height and because he is playing well and also did a good job against Johnson last year. I hope that Verner will be up to the test if he does have to cover megatron on a # of plays – but what I DONT want to see is C. Johnson lining up in the slot with Leonard Johnson on him in man coverage…

Speaking inaccurately about Joe’s business, whether your motives are pure or not, does not help Joe at all and is not appreciated. –Joe

  11. RastaMon Says:

Why you continue to harass Joe is beyond Joe’s understanding. Why you continue to insist you know everything and post malicious comments about Joe is not cool. –Joe

  12. bucfan76 Says:

Joe doesn’t appreciate your inaccuracies and attempt to post malicious BS.–Joe

Only thing that annoys me about this site is the anchor links leading to read more. It’s like, but I got excited and just clicked the link before reading the first two paragraphs. So basically, there’s really nothing to complain about.

  14. DB55 Says:

Leave Joe alone guys. We don’t want him to go off-air like 98.7. Pick ur battles.

  15. OB Says:

Joe needs to earn beer and wing money somehow, so this is how he does it. He also has the girls five days a week.

My real complaint with Joe is why he is playing McCown and hasn’t gotten a OC and an OL, but he never tells us why he does this. I also wish he would tell us how he is drafting with the number one pick. And lastly, why he can’t get Hardy Nickerson on an interview, as the HC he should be able to.
