The Browns’ Miserable Third-Down Offense

No more excuses for D-linemen not named “McCoy.”

The Bucs’ defense is the worst in the NFL. They’ve allowed the most points and the most yards.

So either the garbage Browns third-down offense will be a tonic for Tampa Bay, or the Bucs’ ineptitude will be what ails Cleveland.

In this excellent Xs and Os, Playbook video from NFL Network, Brian Billick dives into the struggles of the Cleveland offense on third down. Not only are the Browns ranked 31st in the league (28 conversions in 90 tries), amazingly, most of those are on 3rd-and-short or the famous “3rd-and-manageable.”

That Browns are a tough team to figure out.

Billick also illustrates how much Cleveland is missing Pro Bowl center Alex Mack and how Browns tight end Jordan Cameron has struggled in pass protection.

Cameron, though, has been ruled out for Sunday.

The Bucs simply have to take advantage of the weaknesses on Cleveland’s O-line. C’mon, Clinton McDonald and Michael Johnson. Earn your money.

Johnson has that “Hruh!” face. (Scooby-Doo voice)

  2. knucknbuc Says:

Time for lovie to send a message and sit Michael “on the ground a lot” Johnson and roll with jacques Smith. Kid was whooping on people last week. Plus Joe u know our d is the perfect tonic for any offense.

The Browns must be doing something right to have a 4-3 record, besides beating the Raiders. They very well could be 5-2 had they held on to that big first half lead in the first game against the Steelers. That whole division is above .500, the Browns don’t have much recent success, like the Bucs plodding along clueless. Not many think the Bucs can win this game.

GO BUCS!!! on the way to 10-6…..why not….it feels better…..such is the life of a Tampabaybucfan!!!

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How is it that the Redskins take all sorts of heat over their name and the Browns get away with their racist one……Just being PC this AM….

  6. biff barker Says:

This team won’t take advantage of anything.

Look at the rookie/no name QB’s that have eaten them alive this season.

I hope we lose every game from here on out.

I agree with Knucknbuc – SIT JOHNSON for SMITH

    Jacquis Smith –

In his Sophomore season, He was the Team Spring Most Improved Defensive lineman. In his Junior season, He was selected for the Jeff Rigman Outstanding Underclassman Leadership Award[2] and was selected to the 2nd-Team All-Big 12 team following the conclusion of his Junior season.[3] In his Senior season, He was named to the Pre-Season 1st-Team All-Big 12 Lindy’s, Blue Ribbon, Pre-Season 2nd-Team All-Big 12 Athlon, Phil Steele.[1] He also was selected to the Pre-Season CFPA DL Watch List and Pre-Season Lombardi Watch List prior to the season. The Kid is hungry, unlike Johnson who gorges himself nightly on millions of Glazer Dollars that he has not earned.

Sitting Johnson and replacing with JSmith is a NO BRAINER, but it aint gonna happen…would imply that Lovie whiffed on MJ, same goes for Collins, would be in Bucs best interest to move him inside or to the bench, but Lovie’s ego comes first, rather than what is best for the Bucs.
