Josh McCown Could Have Cried Again

Last week, much was made of Josh McCown getting so enraged and disgusted that the Bucs fell to 1-8 losing to the Dixie Chicks that he lost all composure and broke down crying.

When he took to the podium for his mandatory postgame press conference, McCown could barely spit out words he was so emotional.

Well, yesterday, if there were any tears, they were tears of joy for the Bucs’ beat down of the hapless Redskins. McCown admitted he could have lost his cool again, but for a very different reason.

“It’s a way different feeling, although it could come out right now, too,” McCown said. “I’m very pleased with what happened. I’m happy for our guys because for the last nine weeks we’ve been fighting and not gotten the results that we wanted. So to come up on the road and do that, I’m just very gratified for our locker room, our coaches and the guys that put time in. Everybody that is around this football team. Heck, you guys. You get to write something different. Everybody involved. It’s just better, and I’m grateful for that.”

Joe, too, was sick of the losing upon losing upon losing. How refreshing this is. A win of all things.

Now the Bucs face a dangerous yet vulnerable team in a few days in Chicago. It seems if Bears quarterback bratty Jay Cutler feels like it, then he has a good game and the Bears win. When he is grumpy and disinterested and he plays like a pile of horse dung, the Bears lose.

Solid job by McCown yesterday. I admit that I had already given up on him finding any success here. But the O line held up to a pretty good defensive front, and McCown played hard and made all the throws he had to make. Great effort from Evans as well, huge rookie numbers.

Mike Evans, all 150 yards of him to that point, lines up with no one opposite, and the would be defending middle linebacker up on the line showing blitz. Even Glennon could have made that throw 🙂

  3. Louis Friend Says:

Depending on the weather. McCown may have a tough time in Chicago getting the ball downfield. Cutler as well. I think next week might come down to which team can run the ball. Neither is great at it, and neither defense is stellar.

Still attributing too much value to the play of the quarterback. Cam Newton without an offensive line and a defensive secondary and pass catchers–well he is not elite. Drew Brees without the talent around him can’t make the Saints even a /500 team. Matty Ice looks very ordinary now that he doesn’t have an all-pro Hall of Fame Tight End to catch the ball. McNown, like so many NFL Quarterbacks, if he has time, he’s going to complete passes, but he can’t will a team to victory. If our offensive and defensive lines come to play, we can win more games. if they don’t, we won’t. Simple as that.

He played a great game yesterday and it was fun to watch the McCown to Evans connection. I agree 100% with Buddha though. If you give most QBs time, they’ll hurt you. Time is what let’s Evans get downfield for the big plays and McCown came through with perfect throws.

It was great to win a game. Won’t over sell it. We already knew #13 was a stud. We also knew The Redskins (yeah I said the “Name”, losers don’t get to dictate policy) sucked. Hope they play a good game in Chitown. Two in a row would be a nice surprise. Hope we go line picks in every round in the draft.

Things are rarely as bad as people think nor as good as people think. This is a team that has won 2 games, lost another 5 in games decided on the final drive, another decided in the final quarter, and 2 blowouts. This team could easily be 7-3 or 8-2 with a little more luck, tenacity, and talent. This is not, however, a 7-3 or 8-2 team, they are not even a good team, but they are not nearly as bad as most of the people that comment on here think.

This is the way I see it. The Romans had games in the Coliseum to distract the masses from the problems of the government. So the people could have a temporary escape from the pain of everyday life. Sports today is the same way…and the people that complain the most have the most horrific situations to escape from. The people that are fairly to extremely happy in their lives don’t need validation from their sports teams to make life worthwhile and complain far less often. I know some people will get extremely upset but deep down we know it’s true. It’s a game, a temporary distraction, no need to get too high, no need to get too low, just a game.

This guy throws a great deep ball when given a chance.

But hes got other issues which have held him back. I hope the braintrust do not abandon plans for a franchise guy cause we have him.

I like the dude though he plays hard.

Brandon doing his usual Lovie nut polishing. It’s hilarious but look at last year, look at this year and it’s pretty much the exact same team, exact same results, except last year the defense was middle of the pack and this year it’s bottom 5 in the league. We haven’t really improved one bit from last year. but keep thinking we’re this close to being a good team. We’re 5 years away from being a true competitor for anything that matter.

  10. buddhaboy Says:

    Lovie nut polishing. ha ha.

Lovie actually had an expression on his face yesterday. First time all year.

Empty suit. that lame post game speech was uninspiring.

Unless you are a member of the team, nobody gives a damn i”buddhaboy” is inspired by Lovie’s post game speech. These guys aren’t in high school, so all that crap that you used to love when being equipment manager for you high school football team doesn’t do diddly poo for professional athletes.

    @bucrightoff,

It’s not how you start, but how you finish. If yesterday was a one hit wonder, then I agree with you. However, it could be the start of us turning things around. I’ll give Schiano credit for going 4-4 in his last 8 last year, but he had clearly lost the locker room. Had he not, I would have been all for him coming back. Lovie is only 10 games into his first season with almost a 50% overhaul of the roster. I’ll give him a year to get things fixed, but the pressure should be and will be on him if this continues next year. Only time will tell, but I feel confident he’s going to get this thing fixed.
