Joe Talks Glennon-McCown Madness, Lovie Decisions & More

November 4th, 2014

joemugshotIt was time for the “JoeBucsFan Hour” this evening with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig, on WDAE-AM 620.

Oh boy, it got a little wild talking about Josh McCown vs. Mike Glennon. Keep in mind this was before the big announcement of Lovie naming McCown starter.

Joe also talked plenty of defense and had harsh words for the offensive decisions.

Enjoy.

    Classic

  2. Mr. Patrick Says:

Has anybody noticed that the “Dean Of Tampa Bay Sports Radio” really knows very little about NFL football? I’ll give him credit for his vast knowledge of Hockey and Golf, however he will not be happy until Raheem is hired here as Buc’s head coach, Josh Freeman is his starting QB, and Tiger Woods wins his 19th Major. Way to stick to your guns, Joe

  3. Bretterson Says:

    Sorry, no insults. –Joe

  4. jo_mama Says:

I have never hated Lovie Smith as much as I do today.

He could not bring himself to Fire the DC or OC so he gets rid of the best QB we had.

At the least if we still want to get Jameis or Mariota we still need to get somehting from Glennon. Sitting him on the bench will get us nothing.

Just another reason why Lovie Smith SUCKS

  5. Trubucfan22 Says:

Why do people, including joe, still support Glennon? By making this move Lovie is declaring that Glennon is not in the future plans of the Bucs. If Glennon is not in the future plans then why would we continue to play him? Mccown isn’t a long term option but he is the veteran back up to the guy who will be the future franchise qb. Whoever that may be. By playing mccown the team (players) can get a feel for him and vice versa. Mccown is a voted captain. It’s not like he is ill received by his teammates. Mccown is in the Bucs future, however short term it is, he’ll still be here. Glennon won’t be.

  6. Trubucfan22 Says:

    What does playing Glennon do?

Raise his trade value? Have you seen him play? No one wants a third down nightmare as their qb.

Win games? He’s had 5 chances to win games for us in the fourth quarter, he has failed 4 of those times. And that’s just counting this year.

Mccown gives this team the best chance to win, and it prepares him to start next season when the Bucs bring in a rookie qb

  7. Patrickbucs Says:

    @trubucs

U are exactly right IMO on both posts. People are more concerned about their names tied to their incorrect posts then they are about the Bucs team imo. True football fans ripped the Bucs defense against Minnesota because If Bridewater was accurate that day we would have been smoked, which was true. IF Glennon was at all accurate or could of run we would have easily beaten the Browns. Remember why we went for fg’s? He seems like a good kid but he’s just not the guy.

Maybe he proves some of us wrong and does well somewhere else but he does not have the skill set that you need in today’s NFL throwing, pocket awareness, or running to build around.

  8. Patrickbucs Says:

That might drop his trade value from a 6 to a 7

  9. Buc1987ForJameis Says:

It’s not a matter of who was right or wrong on the Glennon thingy. He needed to start playing so we got just a little more tape on him(beside under the Schiano regime) to decide if we go QB in the draft.

That’s already been decided “as far as I’m concerned”. McCown starting basically tells us all that they are drafting a QB in the 1st next draft.

  10. Joe Says:

By making this move Lovie is declaring that Glennon is not in the future plans of the Bucs.

You may be right but Joe has been told otherwise, which makes the move even more baffling.

  11. Mathius Says:

Does anyone really believe it matters who plays QB for the Bucs. Neither get the job done. I want to see the wild cat. Put all the running backs we have in the backfield at the same time. McCown will come in and hopefully not poop him self again.

    Glennon career rating 83.7
    McCown career rating 77.0

After watching FSU games this year, I can’t wait for Jamis in a Bucs uniform. Way better arm and awareness than Jhonny football.

  12. BucFan20 Says:

Lovie said McCown was the starter at the start of the season. Never did he say that had changed. The starter is back. Simple as that.

  13. Michaelpittman's hummer Says:

With the direction this team is heading, I’m starting to question the Glazers commitment to the success of the organization. Either they don’t care, or they’re just not good at managing the team.

  14. Famous Jameis or Bust Says:

    Why is everyone so worried/upset/overexcited???

McCown has to PROVE that he is better come Sunday. There is nothing any of us can do or say that will change that reality.

The drama will be this… if McCown stinks up the joint… then what? I mean if McCown plays like garbage then Lovie Smith will be in some seriously hot water let me tell you. Lovie has single handedly dismantled this team all in one season.

Watching McCown implode will surely cause a revolt among many Buc fans over Lovie and his continued poor decisions. I mean Lovie just ditched Mark Barron a 7th overall draft pick who made 100 tackles a season. Even the Glazers have to be fuming by now.

  15. sho nuff Says:

I only listen to its show when Joes on and even then listening to it makes me want to turn that too….

  16. Owlykat Says:

Smart move, Lovie. If you play Glennon any more you will be lucky to get a 7th round pick for him. You could have gotten a high pick for him when you wouldn’t trade him right before the draft. I told you he was an albatross at the time but you didn’t listen then. Had you traded him and signed Tebo for your starter who makes everyone around him better you would have a shot at the playoffs now. Sorry you have no clue when it comes to Offense.

  17. bigpoppabuc Says:

They want Winston. I’m convinced. This smells fishy and it probably is. They’ve good trade bait in Glennon and they want to maintain his value instead of risking it going down if he plays badly. I still think he’s got great potential and could blossom into a very good pocket passer.
But Winston makes sense for Lovie, and the entire franchise. In a perfect world they’d keep Glennon AND draft Winston, therefore there’d be no reason to make the switch to McCown now and you would still be developing a young QB (something this franchise is allergic to).
This move is one for showing both Glennon and Winston the door.

  18. Buc1987ForJameis Says:

    bigpoppabuc <~~~gets it.

  19. Zam Says:

That was entertaining radio. Joe you are a master at arguing without getting hateful.

  20. Todd Says:

Lovie just knows mccown will lose out he wants that 1st draft pick! for winston! then hit’s fa to fill holes on his defense in the offseason.

  21. Patrick in VA Says:

First off, let’s admit to ourselves that we’re all up at arms quibbling about which less than average qb we’re going to play. Neither of these players need to be fought for.

Second, those of you saying that McCown gives us the best chance to win are absurd. Based on what? The high win percentage, lights out football he was playing prior to his injury. McCown is bad, Glennon is bad, just stop it already.

Finally, it’s clearly not about whether or not they keep Glennon next year. They wanted to dump him before this year but got spooked by his higher than expected interest on the trade market. They took another look at him and now they’re convinced he’s not their guy. It’s really that simple. Lovie brought McCown in to be his guy, he’s no longer injured so now he’s lovie’s guy again until next year. Who cares which of the bad QBs are playing. We’re all fighting over the two fat girls at the party just because they’re the only ones that showed up. Let’s finish our beer (season) and go to another party where there will be prettier girls for us to fight over.

  22. Bucfan4life Says:

Lol, Owlykat I can’t believe Lovie had the audacity not to take your advice. I am sure he jumps on this site each morning to get ideas for his next move. With your Tebow comment you have proven you’re a football guru. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lovie reaches out to you in regards to taking over the GM spot.

  23. J dubb Says:

    @Patrick
Couldn’t have said it any better…you’re spot on with your comments.

  24. Buctebow Says:

Patrick is sadly correct, but I still want to see McCown behind a relatively better Oline. Maybe we will get a win!
