Bucs icon Simeon Rice talks about the current Bucs and losing

You never know what’s going to happen during a Simeon Rice interview.

And that was the case this afternoon when Rice, the former superstar Bucs edge rusher turned movie mogul, checked in with the Ron and Ian show on WDAE-AM 620.

Rice talked about the toll of losing and what weepy Josh McCown was experiencing.

“I took losing very hard. Those that played with me know it. You feel defeated. The weight of the world is on your shoulders. There’s nothing like winning, and you love that feeling. It’s euphoric. When you’re losing, it’s dark. It’s grim. It’s just negative, man. And the organization creates this negative atmosphere. You really do have to turn it around to feel different, to be different.

“Josh is probably feeling too, in addition to [the crying], for the simple fact that, he feels that some of this is probably his fault. He’s just a player that was once more. He’s probably down on himself. But you gotta maintain. You gotta keep it together, and you gotta push for what you truly want.”

Rice endured four losing seasons out of his first five in the NFL with the Cardinals. So he knows about what he speaks.

You can enjoy the full Rice interview below. Rice feels good about the Bucs’ future under Lovie Smith, just not this season.

    Joe,

Thanks for posting a picture and article about Simeon Rice, the last Buccaneer with 10 sacks in a season.

In addition to your “Jameis Watch” feature, would it be possible to add the “Next Simeon Rice/10 Sack Buccaneer”? It would be very delightful to look forward to our future edge rusher/bringer of the nasty!

    Our O and D Lines are 🙁 🙁 🙁

  2. MTM Says:

Rice makes some good points. I think Rice nailed it regarding the negative atmosphere at One Buc Place.

  3. Zam Says:

Don’t want no more… of the Crying Game….

  4. Alexstotle Says:

I hope Bucs Trade Down and get some beef, We need better OLine and DLine. Let’s work on that before we set up another young QB for failure.

Rice had such a great interview with Ron and Ian that i felt a lump in my throat. I was very moved by his candor. It had such and effect on me i broke down in tears listening to it. Im much better now.

  6. RastaMon Says:

There were so many leaders in those years…some vocal…some by action….I see NO leadership…NCNB……..Nobody …Cares…Nobody…Bothers….NO LEADERSHIP…..a morale waste land

  7. bucrightoff Says:

OLine/DLine watch is boring and unsexy, highly unlikely to drive page views, no matter how much more important it is to the Bucs success than a QB. Jameis watch is polarizing and guaranteed to drive page views. Don’t expect a Mariota watch either because he too is polarizing. Now Trading for Manziel watch? Could absolutely see that making a round.

  8. SteveK Says:

Three D-Linemen in the NFL this year have 10+ sacks:

    OLB Justin Houston 12 sacks

    OLB Elvis Dumervil 10.5 sacks

    DT Marcel Dareus 10 sacks

There are 2 guys with 9:

    LB Von Miller

    DE Everson Griffin

GMC has 5, can he get to 10?

We need D-Linemen to make Lovie’s Defense work. No D-Line, no wins.

  9. simeon Says:

Simeon gets a pass for crying because he was awesome.

McClown shouldn’t be surprised he is losing, because he sucks.

  10. Wombat Says:

McCoy says he doesn’t know what to do anymore. I tell ya what, don’t reach down and help an opposing player up off the ground. Especially when they whooped your ass the last time you played them.
It all starts with you!!! You are the face of the franchise, you are a Dlineman!! Act like one. Shake their hand at the end of the game by all means.
I remember the days when Sapp blew apart the 49ers by two huge hits on Young and Rice. The only one you would see him offer a hand too was Favre, and that was after he planted his ass in the dirt. That was out of respect and happened years after the two faced each other… C’mon man, get angry, don’t sulk about how bad things are!!!!

  11. Famous Jameis or Bust Says:

Signing Tim Tebow watch would garner 500 comments a day.

  12. PELBUC Says:

Bucs have got to start drafting some leaders with attitude. No one on this team commands any respect, McCoy and David included. Then you have immature idiots like ASJ that suck and dont know how to be smart and team oriented. Get rid of all the sorry ass FAs or have them be 2nd stringers. Glazers have got to send a message soon that coaches and players that dont have any pride or competence wont be around. Also, Glazers need to go back to the good uniforms and make sure these clown outfits, although appropriate for these soory as players, never are to be worn again.

TRUST Joe, who is in the locker room, both practice and postgame: Lavonte David is clearly the most respected player there. GMC is right up there.

  14. DB55 Says:

    MVP LVD

Who’s your favorite player? Mr. #54

    10 solo tackles 4 assist 4 consecutive weeks. #beastmode

  15. Rutgers4Schiano Says:

The Bucs do miss that 1 – 2 Defensive players that commanded respect from opponents and teammates alike. When Sapp and Rice were on the field together you could anticipate a sack or TFL. Now when I watch i wonder how far downfield will the running back be. Steven Jackson looked a little like his old self out there against the cardboard defense.

  16. Steve Says:

The rice man cometh….Just looking at that pic and thinking about the pass rush we used to have compared to what we have now makes me want to cry!!!!

  17. Bear the Bucs Says:

All it will take to get Manziel is a 2nd rounder. Of course our 2nd rounder is like someone else’s late 1st rounder where he was picked last year. Let the fireworks begin !

  18. Ray Rice Says:

Man I miss that sight of a BUCS player standing over a QB after a sack.

    What’s a sack?
