Buccaneers 27, Redskins 7

November 16th, 2014

Lansanah

Today sure symbolized what Lovie Smith dreamed of back in January.

Early turnovers generated by an active defense, a thriving pass rush (six sacks!), and Josh McCown ripping off accurate deep balls to Mike Evans.

Hallelujah!

Joe can only imagine McCown’s tears of joy after this one.

Finally. Finally! The Bucs played a complete football game, despite no running game, dumb penalties and a special teams gaffe.

An early break helped. The opening Danny Lansanah interception was a ball juggled by Skins tight end Niles Paul right into his hands. But to Lansanah’s credit, if he isn’t pursuing hard, then he’s not there to make a play. It’s about time the Bucs got a break from the football gods.

Seven receptions for 209 yards and two touchdowns for Mike Evans. Wow! He’s now got 794 yards and seven touchdowns on just 46 catches this season. And he missed a game with a bad groin.

What more can Joe say about the rookie. Wow!

Today, everything clicked. Bucs fans will finally sleep well for a night.

It was so great to see the team play a complete game. It gives me confidence that the team is slowly getting better although I’m sure there aren’t many that have left the sky falling category of bucs fans…

  2. SteveK Says:

    Evans is a boss.

  3. DB55 Says:

1 more win and we reach our goal of 3-13. Go Bucs!!

  4. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Why do I have a feeling there will be far fewer comments today than after a loss. Kinda sad.

  5. WalkdaPlank Says:

Still gotta a lot of work to do. RG3 is not the player he was as a rookie. This team has no run game. And McCown will be out of the league in 2016 no matter how good or bad he plays.

Needless to say, what a win!! Oh it feels good to see a win not in doubt in the 4th quarter.

20 POINT VICTORY!!! Anybody think that was possible?

  6. Vincente Says:

Great game. I’ll take it I don’t care if it is only #2 that defense was brutal and RG3 is never gonna forget its game. Great jobs guys!!!

  7. Bculaw Says:

Fun game to watch. Defense played fast and physically. Evans is everything you want out of your #1 pick. Smith is looking like a real nice find. Even Johnson showed up on a couple of plays.

  8. 1gr8buc Says:

Really looks like the people who have the most to say when we lose has just as much to say when we win. Still bitching complaining. I wonder how many douche bags have 2 names so they can argue on both sides so they can still feel good about their stupid ass opinions.

And YES I am happy we put a whooping on a 3 win team. A win is a win is a win. GO BUCS! !!!!

  9. lurker Says:

    @hawaiian

kinda sad you have that feeling…lol 😉

  10. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Regardless of which QB has been in there Evans has played great since coming back from his groin injury. The defense was what surprised me today…props to Frazier and Lovie today. Granted it is just one game, but If that’s how the D plays from this week forward then we as a fanbase at least have some hope for next year.

  11. DB55 Says:

    Walk

Againt the 2-6 Falcons and the 3-6 white skins, yes!!

  12. bucrightoff Says:

Big loss for the Jameis/Mariota mobs, McCown playing like that and no way Lovie drafts a QB, and the Redskins are now in play to draft one too because RGIII is finished.

  13. lurker Says:

    subtitle to this season: lost

but the win is great and the lead was big enough that the defense couldn’t blow it.

play washington to fix what ails ya!

  14. Jim Says:

I finally saw a team worse than the bucs! Amazing stuff.

  15. SteveK Says:

4-6 Falcons are atop the division. We are not out of it lol.

  16. Tom Edrington Says:

Thank goodness for the sharp offensive mind of Jay Gruden.

Can we get 10 more games against him??

  17. lurker Says:

arroyo > gruden? damn, i wouldn’t have thunk it.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

    bucrightoff,

Mike Shanahan ruined RGIII. Glad we won, but his demise is kinda sad!

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How ’bout lets just enjoy the victory for a moment without all the negative nellys…..just a moment of joy please!!!

  20. b.Bruce Says:

I was wrong about the Redskins score but I got the buc score exactly right I said 27.my prediction was a lot closer and better than yours Joe you picked the skins to dominate and crush us

  21. Eric Says:

Lovie will get this team turned around.

Gotta crawl before you can walk.

Whoever decided to draft Evans made a good choice.

    Go bucs.

  22. Pickgrin Says:

Congrats on the win Bucs. Well earned.

Defense maybe turned a corner today??

Evans is a star in the making. Much more of that and he will be ROY. So glad we took him with the #7 pick instead of one of the questionable QBs.

We need to go all in for Winston in the next draft. The kid is a flat out Winner!

  23. RJBucnut Says:

Well joe u may want to offer me a job for ur website as a talent evaluator. While u were clamoring for Johnny D bag who can’t seem to crack the starting lineup and keeps acting like a fricking jackass I was calling for the Bucs to draft our stud reciever Mike Evans. He is a BEAST and is only going to get better. I’m going to make a bold prediction and say Mike Evans will surpass megatron as the best WR in the league w in 4 yrs!!!

  24. billy buckaroo Says:

    Cool
didnt even have any tums today

  25. deminion Says:

Good win !!! Evans = unstoppable

  26. Matt B Says:

Great win Bucs! Hat tip to McCown, Evans, Smith, Banks and many others.

However, I don’t want to hear or read anymore blaming of Doug Martin for the nonexistant running game. It’s the O-line obviously.

  27. Mr. T Says:

Great game! Evans looks like he will turn into our version of Calvin Johnson.

  28. OneLove Says:

    HELL YEAH! GREAT TEAM WIN!!

Mike Evans is a BEAST!! What a GREAT Pick by Lovie Smith!!

Oh and to all the haters, SHUT THE FU@K UP!!

  29. Buccfan37 Says:

Nice win Bucs! It feels great! How bad are the Skins and how did they win in Dallas? Go Bucs!

  30. Celly Says:

Watching Evans ball out the way he did, no way should they get rid of Jackson. Evans isn’t making much money. Gotta keep Jackson one more year. Evans is good, but i’m not sure i’d want my 2nd year WR being the #1 yet.

It seems like there’s a new mob starting every day.

Can I start a “I care more about wins than draft position” mob?

    GoBucs!!!

  31. OneLove Says:

If you seriously want the Buccs to lose games to get a better draft spot then your an idiot….

  32. Soggy Says:

Who was that buc team today?. Everybody gaming, Good QB play, decent play calling, D looking better 2nd half for sure, Sacks.. Bucs made the skins boo there own team in there house.. Man if we could have just pulled a couple more wins earlier this season..

  33. John McKillop Says:

Great win for the Bucs. They didn’t look soft today, they played fast and physical all game long. The hope is that this game will be a turning point for this team. Now they have to follow it up with a win next week. Go Bucs!!!!

  34. Capt.Tim Says:

    Yay Bucs.
    That was fun to watch!
This is the team Lovie envisioned. McCoy and Johnson terrorizing QBs, active secondary scooping up Interceptions- and a long ball offense.

I still think he will deliver.

Today was a small window into what this team will look like soon. Lovie knows how to win.

It was great to watch. I’ll being crying right along with McCown,?if he keeps playing like that

2 games back in the NFC south. If we play like we did today- we can beat anyone!

    Well done Lovie

  35. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Mike Evans definitely is stepping it up, hope he stays healthy. While I am happy as hell that the Bucs won today I think we have to still look at the big picture: the Bucs are 2-8 and this was a case where the Skins simply were counting on a W when they looked at the schedule and they (like the Bucs) are nowhere near as talented enough to win without their 100% effort A game (kind of like how the Bucs played against the Lambs). The Bucs tried to give the Skins early momentum with the “Thigpen Fumble” (bet that would have been reviewed by replay official if a team besides Tampa, Oakland or the Titans did that) yet the Skins played lackluster enough to make the Bucs look good for a Sunday. Yeah I am as happy as hell the Bucs won; but where the hell has this effort been the rest of the year???? And why can’t they simply play this well for one damned home game at RJS?!?!?!?

  36. Brandon Says:

That’s the McCown I thought we were getting when he came to us. He played awesome ball today, and pretty good ball last week. His accuracy, timing, and movement in the pocket was superb. Makes you think… if we can still get a Mariota or Winston, they’re basically better, more athletic versions of Josh McCown… even Brett Hundley is more athletic, I’m just not sold on his feet in the pocket.

  37. Bucs fan in Chicago Says:

Next week is my superbowl! Come on Bucs beat da Bears!

  38. Trubucfan22 Says:

Joe can we please end the pleading for Glennon to play out the year? He is not in the Bucs future. Mccown has proved that glennon’s talents are not NFL caliber. He’s slow and can’t throw a deep ball with accuracy. Mccown had some huge throws today. He was money to Evans, in stride, all day. I don’t remember ever seeing a Bucs qb show that much accuracy on the deep with any consistency. Mccown isn’t a franchise qb but he’s good enough to keep this team going until we develop a qb. Glennon is not that qb.

  39. Bucs fan in Chicago Says:

    totally agree Trubuc.

  40. OB Says:

What a pleasure to see a defensive line for a change and Mike Evens is a trip, next week they will cover him and we turn VJax loose. We just have to keep the OL blocking. The running at the beginning of the game was other than up the middle on everyone, but it stopped. Still the coaching but the players are either waking up or Washington is really bad.

  41. P'cola Buc Says:

If Glennon is not the answer and McCowan (who is aging) is our QB if one of the top two QBs in the draft are available we must pounce on the opportunity. Let McCowan start mentoring our true quarterback of the future. The opportunity of a possible franchise QB seldom comes around…let’s not miss it if the opportunity is there.

  42. Brent Says:

I knew that Evans was right pick liked becham too. Now would like to see asj get going. I hope we can get mariotta in draft. Pair him with Evans for about 10 years!!

  43. The Ether Says:

Damn it still feels good to win! The Winston watch may have to wait..

Evans is a straight up G! We’re lucky as hell to have this Young Buc!! McCown was on point today! Even with the SH!TTY ASS Playcalling… 17 of 20 1st down plays were runs! Their D knew what was coming everytime, but #12 still made it happen… and our D was fcukin VICIOUS today!! If they keep this up, I might be alright if we miss out on the top pick…

  44. buc e boy Says:

From The Wolf himself, “Lets not all start suckin each other’s d!ck$ just yet”.

  45. The Ether Says:

“Watching Evans ball out the way he did, no way should they get rid of Jackson. Evans isn’t making much money. Gotta keep Jackson one more year. Evans is good, but i’m not sure i’d want my 2nd year WR being the #1 yet.”

Was thinkin the same thing, we better keep VJax… Or else it’ll be like Michael Clayton after Tim Brown left…

  46. Jeagan1999 Says:

I had really given up on the Bucs this year, not even so much based on the wins vs. losses, but just based on all the mistakes, penalties, and all around poor play. I had already started thinking about the draft next year. But for this one Sunday, I was actually able to enjoy a BUCS game, without wanting to put a paper bag over my head. I don’t know if it will last, but it would be great if it did. I would be willing to give up a top 10 draft pick for a 5 or six game winning streak, that would give me hope moving into next season. I’m still not sure if we should be starting McCown (although he played well today)…I think the jury us still out on if Glennon has a future on the team or not….but if whoever QB’s the team can keep the wins coming, then I will enjoy the last part of this season more than I thought I would.

  47. Matts17 Says:

Got to give credit when it’s due. Both sides of the ball took advantage of their opportunities and mismatches. Yes, the Skins are worse than I thought but the Bucs played their best game of the year.

Evans is a beast. McCown played very well. Pass rush was somewhat a byproduct of Griffin’s inability to be a pocket passer but good for them for being relentless all day with pressure.

    Well done boys!

  48. ddneast Says:

Bucs ran over 90 percent of the time on first down. Is there any wonder why they didn’t get that far?
Don’t hold Glennon’s funeral yer, but there is no doubt that McCown is the better QB and should be with his experience. When he doesn’t turn the ball over, he is a more than serviceable QB.
Shanahan didn’t ruin RG, defensive coordinators have just caught on on how to defend these option QB’s which is why they aren’t lighting it up this year.
When you keep Kapernick, RG, Wilson and Newton bottled up in the pocket they turn into just average QB’s which is what the Bucs did today with a disciplined rush.

  49. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Yeah it reminded me of the 90’s Bucs on defense today when they used to play against Vick.

  50. lurker Says:

“If you seriously want the Buccs to lose games to get a better draft spot then your an idiot….”

    wow, classic!
if you are going to call someone out, or call people an “idiot”, at least get the spelling and grammar correct. and yes, it matters!

  51. Fort Myers Dave Says:

buc e boy: the Winston Wolf quote is classic! Yeah 2-8 is no cause for celebration of that caliber, though the win over the Deadskins is nice even if they are moving up the draft order and might be shopping for a qb along with the Bucs and Jets. Pulp Fiction: Classic Tarantino flick, can’t believe its 20 years old and the pawn shop scene is kind of analogous to the way the Glazers and L&L have been bending over the fans!
