Dare To Dream?

November 16th, 2014

lovie smith 0807Yes, it’s insane.

It’s crazy. It’s downright silly talk. But the madness must be addressed.

After today’s victory in Washington, with the worst record in the NFC at 2-8, the Bucs are very much mathematically alive in the garbage NFC South.

The Saints got clubbed by Cincinnati in New Orleans and fell to 4-6. The Falcons edged Carolina in Charlotte to move to 4-6 and take the division lead via tiebreaker. The Panthers limp into their bye week at 3-7-1.

Sure, it might be more logical and fun — and more realistic — to dream of Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota landing with Tampa Bay come April, but Joe’s going to give the dreamers their moment in the sun this afternoon.

There’s a darn good chance a seven-win team will take the NFC South. Why not the Bucs?

Joe guarantees Lovie Smith will be telling his team that all week long.

How sad is it that a 4-6 team leads the NFC South?

  2. bucrightoff Says:

Bucs are 3 games out of first place because Atlanta swept the season series. Too far to climb considering the games get much more difficult. This was the easiest game left, and they thankfully won it. But playoffs would mean something historically awful, like 6-10 winning the division.

  3. Bculaw Says:

Not sure I have ever seen an entire division that is SO bad. I’m not going to be so naive to think the Bucs could make a playoff run after one win, but I would be thrilled if this team could turn the corner and give us fans hope for the future. Nice to see some speed and physicality from the defense. Nice to see what appears to be a potential elite player on the offensive side of the ball for once. Go Bucs!

  4. ruggyup Says:

Better hope that in the day or two RG III moves to the next team on our schedule.

  5. unbelievable Says:

We would need to beat car and no and finish with the best record over Atlanta. Not going to happen.

Nice to get a win though today. Was watching the game with some Redskins fans, man were they pissed off. What a nice change of pace that was.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So much for all those high draft picks for RG3…..No guarantee on francise QB…..

All things are possible when you get 6 sacks 3 turnovers….two missed field goals and 200+ yds out of your rookie WR…..GO BUCS!!!

I wish we could play the Skins every week

  9. Couch Fan Says:

Lets see back to back wins first before we start getting all crazy here.

Nope not even entertaining it….not getting all gased up over nothing this time next week you’ll be writing how putrid they are I hope you wrote this piece in sarcasm.

  11. mark Says:

Winning this division is going to cause a team to drop 5-10 spots in the draft, from 10th-15th to 21st( or lower if they win that home game).

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

If they play like they did today- they can beat anyone.
    Stranger things have happened

    Go Bucs

  13. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

THE TEAM THAT WINS THIS DIVISION WILL BE 6-10

  14. NewTampaChris Says:

I enjoyed this game thoroughly, yelling and rooting — draft position be damned. However, let’s not forget that the Redskins are terrible. Let’s just take one game at a time, please….

We still have no running game and if Bob doesn’t miss Desean Jackson on two bombs, it might be a different story.

I’m just going to enjoy this one because you never know when (or if) the next one is coming.

  15. Bucnut2 Says:

We need to lose more gains and gain draft position. What do we gain from today’s win? Nothing!

  16. Brandon Says:

2 wins and 5 losses that came down to the last drive. This team isn’t good, but it has never been as bad as some of you were saying. I still think 2-14 will be good enough for a shot at one of the top QBs… and with our easiest game coming up in Chicago, there’s a chance. #suckfortheduck #winnoneforwinston

Lose gains? We need to be making all kinds of gains… ALL KINDS!!!

  18. bigpoppabuc Says:

It’s been an unpredictable year league wide and there have been many blowouts and a lot of Jekyll & Hyde type play from most teams. Never say never, but I’ve never seen a team start 1-8 and wind up making the playoffs.

  19. Bucsqb12 Says:

Any Bucs fans in colorado??? Please come watch the Bucs at Wonderland brewery in Broomfield!!! I really want to fill this place up with Buc fans!!!!

  20. BucFanForever Says:

Time to be like the Rays. From worst to first in the last 6 weeks of the season.

  21. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I used to live in Arvada Colorado but I’m in Buffalo Wyoming now, wish I could join you! For those of you wanting the Bucs to lose to gain better draft position well you have a losers menalety and if they do come back and win 6 in a row they don’t need that draft pick anyway..Go Bucs!

  22. Oingo Boingo Says:

Imbecile. Bucs are 0-4 within the division.

  23. buc4lyfe Says:

See how a win drives out the dumb in people…. Does anyone think that the redskins were that dangerous that the bucs are gonna do much damage with the teams left on their schedule? No so it really doesn’t need to be addressed

I was right there with you and I’m part of the tank mob.

  25. Howard Cosell Says:

We make the playoffs at 7-8 and win the division.
    Superbowl!!!!!!!
    YYEEAAAHHH!

  26. Howard Cosell Says:

    F*** the tank job.
Winston will be marked man in the NFL
and he will have more legal issues.
Mariotta will be gone in the top three, I would think.
Looks like another year of Joe being jilted by his
    dream-man.

I think this team will start winning and we’ll pick around 12th.
Get a freakin dominant lineman of some type OR a top shelf
    QB if he ‘s BPA.

  27. Rando Says:

    Loved it !!!

  28. Bobby C. Says:

Please stop, the madness, if nothing else hope that we end up with a top 3 pick and Philly offers us a kings ransom for the right to reunite chip Kelly and marriota back together again.

  29. phil Says:

This makes me glad I didn’t throw away my ticket for the bet I made for the Bucs to win the Super Bowl this year.

  30. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Chances of the Bucs finishing with more than 4 wins are still kind of remote so all this talk of being in the playoff race is a bit of a reach; maybe if the Bucs won that OT game in New Orleans instead of folding down the stretch and then you could talk about the Bucs going 3-3 in division and holding a tiebreaker over someone like the Saints but no they lost that game and 2-4 will not win a tie breaker in division…… But to be hoping for 2-14 is a bit idiotic as well, just because the Bucs would probably pick 2nd or 3rd with that pick does not guarantee a franchise player (Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russell come to mind); looks like they did okay with the #7 pick last spring. You can not fault the team for preaching to win every week and spout off about attaining an impossible goal; after all a lot of these players are playing for future employment as they could probably not stick on an NFL roster if they flame out on the Bucs……

  31. pick6 Says:

i’ve been saying all year, this is a TERRIBLE year for us to be a bad team. this is the softest division and schedule since that year a 7-9 team represented the NFC west as champions (a year we got 4 of our 10 wins off them by not sucking at the right time, IIRC)…..hold on against a bad vikings team and keep derek anderson & austin davis in check, and we would be leading an awful NFC south right now.
