Browns 22, Buccaneers 17

November 2nd, 2014

The Bucs didn’t shoot themselves in the foot today in Cleveland. They slit their throats, dove on their swords and drank a bottle of cyanide.

The special teams were atrocious. Mike Glennon was clueless too often, and the Bucs’ defense was nowhere near good enough.

Was anyone surprised?

Joe was very disturbed by another appearance of the scary Verner Island, as well as the anemic pass rush against a pocket passer like Hoyer, who had no running game today. Michael Johnson is reminding Joe far too much of Daniel Te’-O Nesheim.

Paper bag fittings, anyone?

The Bucs (1-7) are what they were before kickoff: the worst team in the NFC.

  6. BucFanForever Says:

Why can’t we have a Quarterback or cornerbacks(other than Banks) who can play football?

  7. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

But McCoy had a sack and a half and REALLY took over the game….LMFFAO!

  8. Not Jim Walker Says:

    rediculous. 2nd and 1, pass, 3rd and 1 pass, 4th and 1 pass

WHy the hell did they stop feeding Bobby Rainey the ball?

  9. Marlow Says:

How much longer is this acceptable?

  10. bucrightoff Says:

It’s funny this was the best game they played as a team this year, and it still featured a multitude of mistakes from each unit. Game ball to the Oline for far exceeding expectations, everyone else should once again hang their head.

  11. Aceofaerospace Says:

I have no faith in anything Lovie Smith has done since his arrival. I did believe, but no longer.

  12. The South Floridian Buc Says:

Time to fire Lovie, and sign a new coach, someone who knows what the hell they are doing

  13. Flmike Says:

Should have won by 14, Glennon is simply not NFL quality…

  14. tamparob Says:

last game I’m watching this season and maybe forever. Forget about spending any money to go to the stadium. Been a fan since ’91 and been through a lot of bad games- but I’ve had enough. I’m done. Just crap effort, lousy coaching, and awful players. At least in the early 90s you saw effort. And they had the awful One Buc Place with no weight room, cafeteria, or free drinks (soda machines charged players). The players were bad (until they went to other teams and won Super Bowls) but at least the games were entertaining and much less expensive.

  15. canadianbuc Says:

This team is the biggest joke in the league. Lovie is looking more and more clueless every game and we can all now say that it is set in stone that Glennon is not a starting qb in this league.

  16. Buc Fan #237 Says:

    Lovie Smith should be fired.

  17. Matt B Says:

I really wanted Mike Glennon to be the answer at QB. I was pulling for him. It’s clear he’s not starter material. The O-line gave him time to throw too. What a shame.

  18. WalkdaPlank Says:

Was it a coincidence that the lines started playing better when our oh so great FA pickups Anthony Collins and Michael Johnson got replaced?

We spent good money do these clowns??? If they make the 2015 roster I may boycott the Bucs. Lovie and Lapdog are terrible. Get a real GM go the love of GOD!!

  19. JJV Says:

The Glazers are probably patting Lovie on the back telling him that we are getting close.

  20. Ryan Says:

    Lol at the Mobsters.

  21. RealityCheck Says:

Bonzai should be in here soon to tell us why it’s unreasonable to expect the Bucs to look like a football team. Give it another decade guys, we’ll get there….

  22. NJBucsFan Says:

We are the true embarrassment of the NFL. Lovie is clueless. Raheem has more football IQ than the simple-ass coach WR have now. The last straw will be us drafting Winston. If thats the Casey fanhood will shift to the Dolphins. So tired of being the Basement Bucs

  23. Buccfan37 Says:

Did the Bucs try to throw to anybody besides Evans, Jackson and one pass to a RB? Where are the other receivers? The DB’s could’nt cover grandma. Glennon looked cold. Overall the Bucs mostly stunk up the field and could’nt get out of their own way.

  24. Phred Says:

Time to change the sheets. Bucs crapped the bed again.

  25. Trubucfan22 Says:

Time to bench Glennon. He is costing us games. 2 more inter periods in a tight game. The o line and running game were great today. No excuse for Glennon to play as bad as he did. He made a couple good throws but we need every throw to be on target. He isn’t good enough. Start mccown, start Kafka, start anyone but Glennon. He sucks.

  26. Young buc Says:

    We need a qb

  27. P'cola Buc Says:

No worries guy when Lovie said that football doesn’t start till November he meant November 3rd!!!!

  28. Epbucfan Says:

3 PASSES WITH 1 yard needed???? WTF…MORONS!!!!!! If there is no QB drafted in 1st rd nxt year im burning all my tb gear.. F MYBUCS LIFE

  29. Shawnbucfan Says:

  30. SuperSam Says:

BOOOOOOOOO!! THIS TEAM SUCKS!!!! JACKSON YOU EFFING SUCK!!!! CATCH THE BALL OR TURN IN YOUR PAYCHECK!!!!!! VERNER YOUR FREAKING GARBAGE!!!! MICHAEL JOHNSON GO BACK TO CINICINATTI!!!!!!!

  31. nate_tweetz Says:

    Lovie was out-coached once again.

Bobby Rainey has 80 yards rushing in the 1st half the mysteriously stops running him in the 2nd.

And that last offensive series??? Glad we let the clock run down to the 2 min warning so we could waste time and come up with 3 incomplete pass plays to try to gain 1 freakin yard! Seriously!?!?!?!

This team is getting me so used to losing, I hardly even get upset anymore. I think I’m a defeated fan.

  32. billy buckaroo Says:

What planet was Glennon on today?

  33. 911bucs Says:

I can’t wait for the same ole same ole press conference.

  34. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Remember GMC was going against a THIRD string center!!!

I’m with you JOE. Break out the paper bags. There is enough blame to go around here.

BTW Glennon haters. I concede it was not his shining hour. But it wasn’t Glennon who let Browns receivers run WIDE FREAKING open on 3rd and Forever. It wasn’t Glennon who allowed a receiver to get 15 yards behind the Bucs defense. And I”m with Joe I don’t thing that was on Verner. That’s on Lovies scheme where safeties cannot find out where they’re supposed to be.

BTW Jameis lovers. I do not doubt his talent. Why is it then that Jameis overthrew WIDE FREAKING OPEN receivers on Thursday night. And a couple of those passes weren’t even close. The int’s were atrocious.

Jamies is great! Prescott is just as big and runs as hard as Tebow. He’s a #15 with Tebow’s intangibles but with an NFL arm.

  35. JJV Says:

What year did Lovie mean when he said November for the real football to start?

  36. canadianbuc Says:

I really don’t like McCown but Glennon has to be benched he was supposed to have a gun for an arm well he can’t throw deep and accurately for his life! He’s constantly under throwing the receivers and his lack of mobility is sooooo costly. He could well possibly be the slowest guy on the team slower then a damn offensive linemen! At least with Mccown yes we will probably get the same dumb throws but at least the guy can scramble 10 yards and get us a first down if needed something Glennon will never be able to do.

  37. bosscantworkmytoehurts Says:

I really dont give a rats arse anymore. Anyone know wnen competitive parchisi season starts?

  38. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Lovie was out-coached once again.

Nate for the win!!! Yes if you want to blame somebody pick on Lovie!! He and Frazier have come up with the most passive defense possible. Browns’ receivers were running wide open…by 10-15 yards on 3rd and longs and on the winning TD.

  39. 911bucs Says:

I guess at this point tanketh for Jameis

  40. FowlBall Says:

I am disappointed that the Bucs lost, being that it’s November and all.

By the way, if anyone has even the slightest question about the competency of the Buc’s coaching staff, take a look at their bios on the internet (you know where to go). Fugly.

  41. Trubucfan22 Says:

Why does everyone expect gmc to single handedly win games? That fact is DTs never have enough impact on a game. He is worth the money because he is currently in the top 2 DTs in the league. But until we fix the qb we won’t win games. The defense gave up 2 tds. In the NFL, that’s really not bad. We need to score more than 2 tds. Not o many times are you going to win a game in the NFL with only 2 tds. Glennon was not good. GMC did all he could, but there isn’t much 1 dt can do. 1 qb on the other hand can make huge difference.

  42. Doc Says:

    This teams need a quarterback.

  43. Warrenfb12 Says:

Bucs need a qb glennon had a lot of time today

  44. bucrightoff Says:

Kafka should play before McCown. McCown is nothing and we all know it and have a decade plus to show it. McCown should enjoy his money and maybe transition in OC next year.

  45. Bostonfan Says:

So, we’re under 2:00 minutes with a 3rd and 1 and we throw the ball down field instead of getting the 1st down to preserve the drive since we need a TD to win. OMG, who calls these plays?! Hey, Glazer family, how much more do you want to ask of your loyal fans before they completely throw up on your product?

  46. WalkdaPlank Says:

I have defended Glennon but no more. I have thrown in the towel. I am DONE with this QB situation.Glennon absolutely cost us this game. Taking sacks, terrible throws, missed TD’s, you name it. The defense didn’t help with their terrible 3rd down play, but the Bucs could jave won this game 38-22 if Glennon had hit his guys.

Winston, Mariota, Prescott, I could give less than two sh!ts who it is, just bring somebody in here with a good arm. I prefer Winston, but any of the 3 will do.

  47. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I really dont give a rats arse anymore. Anyone know wnen competitive parchisi season starts?

No No No Boss! The Lightning have a true shot at winning it all this year. They have a very entertaining team full of great class acts, an outstanding coach, maybe the best GM in the sport and the best owner Tampa Bay has ever seen.

Don’t despair. Join the rest of us. GO BOLTS!!!

  48. mac Says:

Mike Glennon, V-drops and Verner had horrible performances…

McCoy, Banks, Evans and Rainey played well…

Our offensive line played ok… Which is a big surprise…

We need to draft Winston this year… Its become obvious to me that Glennon is not the answer at QB… Unless the question is who is the worst starting QB in the NFL?

  49. Buccfan37 Says:

That last Bucs series try to retake the lead they had 2nd and one with 15 seconds before the 2 minute warning. they let it run down instead of running a run play to gain the one yard. Then 3 straight incomplete with a penalty added. Game Over! Lousy playcalling and coaching.

  50. tmaxcon Says:

    glennons a freaking JOKE…….

  51. dmatt Says:

I again anticipated the outcome. We wait late in the game n try to come back while making bonehead plays. VJ cannot b counted on…he misses too many catchable balls n bobbles the ones he catch. Mike Evans had a chance to make the first down but decides to fall for nine yards after a chance to get one extra yard for a first down…during crunch time!!! Oniel Cousin was manhandle, he plays soft. N our pass defense…did I say that? Y did we repeatedly bite off Hoyer’s freezing the linebacker for big gains on passing. Mason Foster is lost in space n we just allow no name receivers to just dictate what they want to. I was voting for Gleenon preceding this game but y n the heck didn’t he get out of the pocket once he realized no one was open, however, the receivers gotta help their QB out n come back to make a play… oh my bad, I’m thinking Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Wes Walker, Jodan Nelson, n other play makers. ASJ plays lazy…is he a second becoming of former Bucs/Washington Huskies Jeremy Stevens? This team plays with no true grit…very lackadaisical!! A blocked punt n field goal in the same game…n we’re called professionals.

  52. 1Gr8Buc Says:

I started typing a post about the draft and what I would do…… But there are so many areas that need to be addressed. Just throw a dart to the board and go with it.

As much as everyone is calling for Lovie and Licht to be fired, I disagree with giving a new staff one year to establish their vision, plan or whatever you want to call it. That said I hope they have something up their sleeve for the offseason.

Goodbye Jackson, Goldson, Koenon, Clayborn, Foster, one of the current active QBs, And Martin.

  53. JJV Says:

Is it just me or does Lovie look clueless on the sideline? At least carry a clipboard to look intelligent.

  54. Joe Says:

Is it just me or does Lovie look clueless on the sideline? At least carry a clipboard to look intelligent.

What is a coach supposed to look like on the sidelines? To Joe, a coach acting like a child on a perpetual temper tantrum looks clueless.

  55. ihateloviesmith Says:

3rd and 16 backed up on their goal line, and the mighty bucs D could not stop peyton (hoyer) brady. what a freaking carnival of horrors, this team and coach is the personification of LOSER. why do we as fans have to endure this B.S. oh well good news is LVD IS NOT INJURED. bad news is WE GOT 8 more weeks of this terrific display of ineptitude from stone face and his gaggle of morons! congrates to GMC, what is that 24 sacks in the last 4 years, may I say WHOOPIE FUCKING DO, oh well your getting top dollar for your play but unfortunately, we the fans have to pay to see nothing more than failure, each and every week, month, year! OH YEA LOVIE HOPE YOU DO NOT HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY .

Yet his brother, the calm one, has a Super Bowl ring. *shrugs*

  63. JJV Says:

Joe, so I guess Jon Gruden was clueless winning a Superbowl because he showed emotions on the sidelines?

  64. Joe Says:

Joe, so I guess Jon Gruden was clueless winning a Superbowl because he showed emotions on the sidelines?

No, just that for every guy who acts nuts on the sideline, Joe can come up with two who are Tom Landry-like and as successful if not moreso.

Joe just doesn’t know where this mindset comes from that if a coach doesn’t act like he’s on a bad acid trip he’s a bad coach. That’s just dumb. Lovie had done a horrible job this year, but he looks “clueless” on the sidelines? Really? How so?

  65. Frank Pillow Says:

At least with Schiano we all knew he was coaching to a plan. It may have been a collegiate one, but after 8 weeks under Lovie it’s clear to me that we’ve tumbled into the abyss. A soft identity on D and no identity on O. Completely devoid of NFL talent on a roster that was blown up by Lovie. BLOWN UP. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t have been…I’m just saying that a coach and GM better make sure they’re replacing bad players with better players. L & L didn’t do that…they overplayed equally bad players and put them in a scheme that makes them play worse. What a complete and total disaster. There’s no reason the root for drafting Winston IF this coaching staff remains in place…name a single coach here that can develop his considerable talent??? The kid’s skills won’t mesh win Lovie’s philosophy…and it sure and heck seems like Lovie won’t change his tune anytime soon. Evans, McCoy and David are the ONLY NFL worthy starters on this roster. That’s on the ‘rock star’ to a large degree, but L &L spent a load of cash on a bunch of turds. This franchise has returned to its rightful place of being a complete and total dumpster fire.

  66. fordman61 Says:

We want Kafka ‘ we want Kafka ‘ we want Kafka ‘ we want Kafka ‘we want Kafka we want Kafka ‘ We want Kafka ‘we want Kafka ‘we want Kafka.

  67. Buxfan Says:

No more excuses for Glennon. I’m done with him. Mike Evans had a monster day. But it should have been a whole lot better.

  68. bucrightoff Says:

That;s true Joe, but how bad would we kill for 3 straight 8-8 seasons right now, let alone 3 NFC title games.

  69. JJV Says:

Joe, this is my opinion and I respect yours. Part of his job as a leader is to motivate, encourage, and advise during the game on the sidelines. By showing emotions towards his players reinforces a good or bad play. That is something most good coaches do sometimes. I never said anything about acting like a child with tantrums. But just standing there emotionless with a blank look does not show anything to give players confidence. Even the coaches you mentioned showed it sometimes. Hope that clarifies what I meant.

  71. bob in valrico Says:

kudos to the offensive line good improvement.you opened the holes protected your quarterback.but he seemed to be battling his own demons today.

  72. Fort Myers Dave Says:

The Bucs lose again and I think they are losing there grip on winning tie-breakers with other one win teams for getting the first overall pick (assuming the Raiders get 1 win) as the Rams and Vikes actually won, making the Bucs strength of schedule a tad better. Those teams (St Louis and Minnesota) are almost as bad as the Bucs, yet they have 3 or 4 wins, you have to start pointing the finger at the coaching staff. If Fisher can win with the Lambs at least 4 or 5 times this year, then Lovie should be able to match that with the soft schedule the Bucs have but he will not even be close. The Bucs might have a chance vs the Deadskins but where else is there a potential win on the schedule: the Falcons or Bears???? No way, the Bucs lose those games bad because the defense will fall apart and knowing the Bucs D; RG3 will have one good game for the rest of the Redskins 3-13 season; when he beats our Bucs. Lovie, you have to find a way to win and punish your coaching staff for failure; start with your special teams coach: let him go, send a message, grow a pair and start holding your coaching staff accountable for inexcusable gaffs….
