“How We Started The Second Half Gives Us Some Hope”

Lovie Smith has found a silver lining, and it surrounds No. 8 and the Bucs’ offense.

The head coach found the light in the dark tunnel of 1-5 after the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“If there was a positive right off the top, it’s how we came out offensively in the second half. Three straight scores,” Lovie said. “You know, Mike [Glennon] hung in the pocket there. Early on the first half, of course, he’d like to have a couple of those balls [back]. You have to look for positives on days like today. And how we started the second half gives us some hope.”

Yes, Glennon had a 16-for-19 stretch en route to finishing 24-of-44 for 314 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

But with the Bucs trailing 38-0 at halftime, Glennon’s stats represent little more than success in garbage time football.

Joe appreciates Lovie identifying hope, but Joe’s not seeing it or believing in it right now.

I said it before and I will say it again! Sell the team to Eddie, draft a mobile QB, FIRE LOVIE!! This looks like the 70′s Yuks! They could score a 100 on us if they wanted to. If this was Schiano, he would’ve been fired already. This team and organization is a joke and Lovie and that coaching staff is the punchline.

  2. bucrightoff Says:

In the second half when the Ravens went into quarters prevent, he took advantage of the kind of soft zone he sees every day in practice. Lovie, there were no positives today at all, it was an abysmal performance.

  3. Bucnut2 Says:

Soooooo this is crap. Hasn’t everyone tuned out Lovie? This team is really bad. Time to think about the draft.

  4. Glennon Sucks Says:

The game was over when the this magical offense came alive. Funny how it never starts well.

  5. Wes Says:

I dont know why we can’t start games passing first trying to open the running game. And if they bring pressure use 3 step drops and short passes.
Adjusting on the fly what a novelty.

  6. WalkdaPlank Says:

“I didn’t want to put points on the board” – Lovie Smith

  7. Patrick Says:

You know you’re a Buccaneers fan when it’s October and the draft is already on your mind.

  8. 911bucs Says:

Garbage time= a period where the Bucs offense pad their stats.

  9. Espo Says:

They absolutely did not play prevent. Watch the game. If Dooo, we would have been dinking and dunking instead of completing passes downfield.

The late success just upset me even more. This just means they were capable of moving the ball all along but instead choose to have their heads up their porthole.

  10. Espo Says:

Garbage time yes. Garbage time started halfway through the 1st quarter. Prevent? No.

  11. Skipper Says:

Horse shit, there is nothing positive from that severe beating the Bucs took.

  12. Buc-O's 82 Says:

Leslie Frazer’s defense is going to cost Lovie his job . and should. If they’re not careful they are going to loose what little season ticket fan base they have with this inept defense.

  13. lurker Says:

    lovie speaks with forked tongue!

  14. JT Says:

We obviously can not get to the qb with four pass rushers. Why not blitz Lavonte or bring Baron in the box more to keep the offense guessing. Every play the qb knows where the safeties will be. Every play the offensive line knows where the pressure’s coming from. Offenses now a days are too good. Forcing the Tampa two down your defenses throat isn’t going to make it work any better. Unless were playing a garbage O-line like Pittsburgh’s every week we will continue to get chain whipped. The players know it. How can Lovie NOT know it???

  15. RastaMon Says:

Lovie is in WAY over his head….I listened to his press conference yesterday and was underwhemled by his monotoned empty words…then by chance I listened to a long interview with #55 on all sorts of subject…a stark contrast in leadership and answering questions. Lovie is an empty suit that has been swept to this point in life by his association with the greatness of others. I don’t mean to be harsh…but that is what I see……

  16. John Sapp Says:

Lovie Smith, Fired by the Bears, Leslie Frazier, fired by the Vikes. Why on earth did we sign this pathetic joke to guide our team? Schiano should have been given another year to at least get to .500 and then if he earned it an extension. We have two re-tread coaches that the game has passed by. Firing either will never happen so we are stuck with this joke for another two years. Mark my words, GMC will not stay and can anyone blame him? I don’t.

  17. biggun Says:

    I really have no words…. ((((((((((

  18. Jonny 2.3 Says:

I am not on the “FIRE LOVIE” bandwagon at all, but is it just me or does the guy usually look calm and complacent even in losses? Last week’s post game PC for example, he had the audacity to say that eventually these kind of close games will become wins once the players are comfortable with the system. That is theoretically true, but you don’t utter those kind of complacent words after a loss when the defense was embarrassed on final drive. He does not need to look animated or even visibly frustrated, but I hate to see complacency after a loss.

The last time I felt so embarrassed after losses was during Morris’ debut when we lost the game to Cowboys, then again during Morris’ tenure in 2011 against Packers.

  19. Sam Says:

This team is bad from top to bottom and you can’t sugar coat it any more. I have never seen a defense that allows touchdowns on every possession. We also got rid of every good offensive line player we had. Lovie sent a message to the team that the line was overpaid and did not produce so he got rid of them. Man did that plan backfire. This is embarrassing.

  20. John Sapp Says:

I agree with you RastaMon. 100%

  21. Trubucfan22 Says:

The offense did nothing a bunch of high schoolers couldn’t do in garbage time. The entire team sucked. Another scar for these Buccaneers. The direct of this team isn’t going in the right direction. As soon as you think they took a step forward they take 10 steps back. I’m sure Lovie will right the ship and take a step forward after the bye week. But what about the week after? Tbh I have no trust that Lovie is doing the right things. The offense and defense are terrible. That completely rebuilt offensive line is just garbage. We tried to turn other people’s junk into treasure. But it didn’t work. They are A band of misfits, and they suck. Glennon didn’t lose this game for us. But once again he showed he can’t handle pressure. The defense sucks we get that. Having hope our defense will make a stop is a lost cause. The rest of the season is grading glennon. Is he he future of he franchise? That’s the big question. When I watch a game I watch glennon and I watch lavonte David. Those are the only / players worth watching. David provides the entertainment and you watch glennon to see if he has the “it” factor to be an nfl qb. So far he has shown nearly nothing he can be our franchise qb. He has performed as well as you’d expect a back up qb. He doesn’t wow anyone and he can’t make something out of nothing like all the great qbs do.

I’ll continue to evaluate my opinion on glennon. U so far he is nothing more than a back up qb.

  22. John Sapp Says:

So after the bye we face a back up QB and a Back up RB, I see a massacre coming. Wonder if that will wake up lovie when we get beat down by the petersonless vikings.

  23. lightningbuc Says:

The only hope I have is that Lovie looks in the mirror tonight, realizes he sucks out loud as a coach, and quits tomorrow.

  24. Nybucsfan Says:

Yea number 8 looked good when the crows stopped pressuring let’s hear about that JOE you watched the game than at the end the they brought pressure and your boy took a sack and could complete the ball did you watch that or do you choose to ignore that fact? Now your MGM you ignore the truth about Glennon.

  25. CB Buc Says:

    Lovie….

    Please.
    Shut.
    Up.

The Ravens were laying off, trying not to get beat for a quick score. That’s what you do when you win the game in the first quarter.

    Positive…. LMFAO

  26. RealityCheck Says:

If we lose coming off a bye week to the Vikings, game over for this team and coaching staff.

  27. Buc_The _World Says:

See this is the kind of crap that irritates people, I dont want to hear about positives when you are losing a game 38-0 before the second half. The only positive in a situation like that is if you come back and win the game. Other than that all I want to hear is how you are going to fix it. I was one of Lovie’s biggest supporters when he got hired now he’s making me look like an idiot. I expected far more. I still believe Lovie is a good coach but I believe his stubbornness leads him to make bad decisions and sometimes a stubborn coach is just as bad as a terrible coach.

  28. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

Maybe after the by week Lovie gets to explain what he meant by a RELEVANT football team….

    Hmmm….

    Wow! What a DISASTER of a game…

  29. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie’s song: “Call me up in dreamland, radio to me man, get the message to me, anyway you can”. The team plays like you talk.

  30. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

    I know what it was!!!!!

    The damn orange socks!!!!

It took us back to the 70’s!!!!

  31. CB Buc Says:

Buc TW — you’re exactly right. This guy pisses me off when he talks after games.

Give me a coach that just calls it for what it is. Be honest

  32. BoJim Says:

    Nybucsfan Said:

” Now your MGM you ignore the truth about Glennon.”
    _______________________________________________________

Yeah! Lets get him. Who’s with me? heyooooooooooooo”

MG8 didn’t lose the game for us nimrod.

  33. Aubpierce Says:

Please!Somebody stick a hot poker up Lovies arse and wake him up from his year long nap.He has no emotion which relates to how his team plays.Hope begins when he resigns.

  34. buccanAy Says:

time for some heads to roll….IMO, Koenen should be the first, obviously, there are multiple problems, but you gotta start somewhere….he should be cut immediately, to make a statement, and fix ONE of our MANY problems…that’s an easy one.

  35. Florida Hillbilly Says:

Hey Lovie, what’s positive about a good old fashion button whippin’?

  36. billy buckaroo Says:

He is really searchin to say that.
    But
after such a poor performance by EVERYONE INVOLVED
    what can he say?

Wanted Marinelli-settled for Frasier – hasn’t worked out
Picked Warhop – Hasnt worked out
Inherited Arroyo – hasnt worked out

Not very easy to hide from it now.
This is where the head coach is supposed to
    step up
    or
    somebody else will over him

  37. jb Says:

“If there was a positive right off the top, it’s how we came out offensively in the second half. Three straight scores,” Lovie said.

    Are you f%&$#*^g kidding me???????????
The man is delusional! His team comes out and gives up 35 unanswered points in the first quater, and he finding positives! GUTLESS LOSERS……..ALL!

  38. Pewter Lou Says:

Wanna get paid, pick whoever plays Bucs in Fanduel, guaranteed money by halftime

  39. Capt.Tim Says:

There was no second half! The Bucs were dog beat in the first half.
The Crows were just watching clock turn, in what should have been the second half.

  40. 1bucfan88 Says:

    *takes deep breath*…..

BOOOOOOOO!!! Shame on you for your excuses, Lovie Smith

  41. RastaMon Says:

Hope…..and football ….there is NO HOPE in football….football is imposing one’s will upon the opponent..until resistance or the clock runs out….HOPE…HOPE…HOPE…Lovie is an imposter

  42. Mando PLayr Says:

With 15 seconds in the half and a lead of 38-0 Harbaugh calls 3 plays and than attempts a 64 yard field goal. Now that is a coach who not only wants to win but wants to run up the score and step on your throat while he has you down. Ask yourself do you want a coach like Harbaugh or the non cursing, non drinking, Sunday church going, nice, paitent and reserved man such as lovie Smith.

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Hogwash lip service Lovie…the Ravens let up you fool. You can be the fool. Don’t take us for fools too.

  44. Buccfan37 Says:

Must be nice Lovie, a guaranteed high paying long term coaching gig of the downtrodden Bucs with an angry fanbase snaping at your heels after six games in. For some fans patience is worn thin, for others it’s worn out. Enjoy your week off, I know I will.

  45. matthew veal Says:

remember we are going with the lowest payroll in the league and have for several years. add to it a general manager who doesn’t seem to be very good at evaluating talent and seemingly no good assistants when we had ample time to get one.

id love for tebow to be brought in but this whole thing is caused by financial problems, low income in the tampa area and just no will to win. so we got rid of gruden because of what again?

  46. Zam Says:

I’d like Tebow here. He has a way of motivating both sides of the ball, at least in Denver. That’s something this team is sorely missing.

And it would be nice to see firsthand how improved his throwing motion is.

At this point games are so blah why not shake it up…

  47. bob in valrico Says:

nothing positive about classic turtle vs. hare race: glennon vs. flacco.
Glennon caught up some when raven offense took a nap. There were no blitz pickups or adjustments to stop the pounding glennon was taking.he is a tough
kid ,but he has to get rid of ball sooner.what starting running back gets 6 yards in his first 6 carries.defense took many steps backwards.major letdown from headcoach on down.
