The Lovie Hug

September 29th, 2014

Bucs fans love national love of their team. They adore it, even more than they love Lovie Smith today.

The often unemotional Tampa Bay head coach dished out his lovin’ yesterday. And who got this warm public. affectionate embrace?

Of course, it was Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon. NFL Network has the video here. It was all part of Deion Sanders naming Glennon his No. 8 “Primetime” performer of Sunday’s slate of games.

Heck, Lovie hasn’t hugged Josh McCown like that in many, many years.

Joe sure hopes the head coach names Glennon the official Bucs starting quarterback this afternoon at his news conference. The coach will no doubt be asked repeatedly whether his offense now belongs to Glennon, or whether McCown is still Lovie’s guy.

As Tony Dungy said last week, you don’t start a quarterback controversy. Joe can’t predict how Lovie will respond.

If Lovie does’nt name Glennon the official starter of the Bucs, the depression at looking forward to McCown next week will be quite deflating. Indeed!

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    Glennon went “Primetime”.

  3. BFFL Says:

They can play the injured thumb excuse for at least 2 more games…this will give Lovie a few more games to access the situation. It’s always good to keep the other team guessing..no need to put added pressure on Glennon right now.

  4. Ray Rice Says:

Lovie Ball will save his a$$ and still declare Mccown out until he gets healthy. Then show he has no choice but to start MG. If MG fails he will be able to bring Mccown back no controversy. If he declares MG in today then that means he’s all in with no option to go back.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @BFFL

You are exactly correct…..there is absolutely no reason for Lovie to commit to Glennon now….no matter how many questions…..Lovie loves secrets & he will keep our starting QB secret as long as he can.
I suspect (injured or not) McCown will sit out at least the next two games….this will give Glennon a chance to take the starting job away for good.
Going back to McCown now would put way too much pressure on McCown & on Lovie……not a smart thing to do.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

I really want to set up an MGM fan club shop outside of Ray Jay some day. I got big plans man. So keep Glennon in there.

We’ll have vote for Mikey t-shirts and stuffed animal giraffes with number 8 on them.

Key chains, posters, Fat Head’s, and cereal (like Flutie Flakes).

    The possibilities are endless.

  7. @eric Says:

Glennon is a stud, he’s stronger, smarter and has a canon for an arm. No surprise he’s he’s getting better with more playing time….people forget he beat out Russel Wilson at NC State and Wilson had to transfer out to Wisconcin to be able to start. This kid is the real deal…no wobbly passes…..no throwing off back foot…..dude is legit and more playing time and confidence from Lovie and we have our guy.

  8. jo_mama Says:

    FIRE LOVIE SMITH

He is not a good coach.

If it was not for McCown getting hurt Glennon would not have played.

Lovie Smith is not going to say he always knew Glennon was our QB of the future.

    BS

    Fire Lovie Smith

  9. Barry Says:

    Glennon’s number 1 fan. #MG8FranchiseQB #MikeCannon

  10. LUE0615 Says:

The bucs are our team and we want to win now so let the kid play as a starter as he gives us the best chance at the moment.

  11. Greg Says:

Took the words right out of my mouth
Lovie still needs to spit that crap out of his mouth (looks like he has a mouth full on the sideline)

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

jo mama you are 100% correct and the steelers as offensively inept and lacking of discipline yesterday, would have made the bucs 0-4, injuries suck but are part of the game and mclown is a garbage backup…keep glennon on the field and have your hug mean something lovie

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You know….I’ve been reading the posts for over a year now……poking fun at Glennon’s “Giraffe-like” stature……comments like “baby chick” look etc.

The fact is that Glennon is a very tough and smart guy….he is physically and mentally tough…would love to see what he could do with the Saints recievers etc.

Sure, he’s not that mobile….neither is either Manning or Brady or Foles or many others.

You guys who have been dissing him need to fess up!!! He is for real…

  15. Buc1987 Says:

I’ll say this too… in one small sample size. Glennon looks better than last season already. I don’t think he’s reached his ceiling at all.

He may not have mad skills, but he does have the tools and he knows how to use them. He’ll get better with using those tools as things move along for this kid.

He just needs 1/2 decent weapons and more time to learn.

Man how many times did I and many otheres use that reason (some called excuse)last year?

We were also told things like. So what (in a snotty way) he led the 32nd ranked offense by a certain guy that now wants to become a general of the mob. I’m not naming any names, but it’s a 3 letter word.

  16. Skyline Crew Says:

Glennon didn’t push Wilson out at NC State. That just isn’t true.

Glennon looked good. If VJAX hadn’t dropped so many passes his 50% would have been higher. <—Captain Obvious

Now with Evans out we are hurting a little bit at WR.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

For the record I didn’t become MGM until like April and that was after the draft. Also for the record. I was one of the only ones in here prior to the draft that said Lovie would not draft a QB in the draft and the reason for that was simple.

    Mike Glennon.

I don’t get much right especially with new coaches and all. So I don’t mind patting myself on the back.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

I guess make it May then since the draft was basically in May. So I’m a late arrival to the MGM. I just got pissed at all the unwarranted dissing.

    Okay I’m done rambling now.

  19. Bucsfan4lyf Says:

To all the new MGM members… WELCOME!!!!

Took you guys long enough but now you see a real QB that understands coverages, doesn’t make bone headed mistakes and has a rifle of an arm.

The future looks bright on offense with Glennon as the starter, now we just need to fix our pass defense and we are set to be NFC South Champs!!!

Yes, I did say that lol.

    #MGM

  20. Bucsalltheway Says:

Glennon is by far a better qb and he struggled last year to even throw for more than 220 yds so putting up over 300 yesterday is stating he’s playing faster and smarter and he puts balls where only the receiver has the best chance to get it u can’t ask more from a qb then to get it out quick and accurate. If it wasn’t for the drops by multiple player mmmm (vjax) then his qbr would have been higher. Everybody cracks on his height but he sits in the pocket and sees everything. Mcclown cracks under pressure and gives the ball to the opposing team effortlessly.

  21. robert9 Says:

i posted this in another thread, but seems more relevant here.

“the team looked prepared, but who knows if it was them coming together or words of inspiration as a coach. I worked in a hugely successfull office where the owner was a complete ass, but we were dominant in our industry. just one hell of a group of guys. he was a tyrant…tried to run me out of town early on, i stuck it out and became extremely good…at which time he wanted to be my best friend. well, his head gut too big and he treated us as such and now most of us have our own firm and have run him out of business. moral of the story. it aint always the guy in charge, but the soldiers who determine the outcome.”

most people don’t forget when the boss has no faith in them. I hold a grudge, and after 9 years finally told my boss where he could stick it until he HAD to fire me after I publicly berated him. maybe Glennon is nicer than me, but don’t think for a minute that lack of confidence does not light a fire under his ass.

  22. robert9 Says:

i’m not saying fire lovie. this team has done too much of that in the last few years. (i may have said it last week lol)

but let’s not go giving lovie the credit. he’s made some dumb a$$ moves and has yet to hold himself accountable.

  23. PRBucFan Says:

As far as you know from the few times you have seen them in public together 😉 lolol

  24. flmike Says:

Much like Chicago did, we will not win because of Lovie, we we will win in spite of Lovie…

  25. DB55 Says:

That was the ol’ thank you for saving my ass/job hug.

  26. PRBucFan Says:

    lol Your an idiot Mike.

That’s the last time I waste a precious second of my life ready your drivel.

  27. bucrightoff Says:

The only “controversy” would be Lovie starting McCown again. The fanbase would be absolutely livid if he did.

  28. Jeagan1999 Says:

    FIRE THE (MIKEY) CANNON!

  29. DB55 Says:

Robert I couldn’t agree with you more. Lovie is an obsolete antiquated loser. I’m red reading these fans giving him credit. CHILD PLEASE!!

Lovie threw glennon out with the bath water and now want to bask in the glory of his win. This win can only be attributed to glennon and arroyo. The 2 people Lovie has the least amount of confidence in.

Why did we have 64 offense in the first half? I am convinced that Lovie said at halftime “you know what let these kids do whatever the hell they want if we lose I have plenty of excuses ready”. But what happened they did the EXACT opposite of Lovie ball and won, dispite Lovie smith and his lame self.

Lovie where is your defense? Why did your “best 3 tech in the game” only have 1 tackle. Why can’t your secondary cover a fucking rvc? Fuck this shit I said it way before the draft that glennon should demand a trade from this talentless blind as a bat hc. If they don’t see that glennon is the best they got or better yet don’t want to use his skills then let Lovie roll with the clown n Kafka. 0-16 here we come!!!!!

This is such bull spit it’s not even funny. All Lovie has tried to do is stifle Glennon. Guys there a reason this bum was in his basement last year. And as soon as he gets a chance he go right back to the clown.

Good thing my last comment didn’t post or joe deleted it. If you think mike is bad you definitely don’t want to hear my mouth. By the way PBF your initials wouldn’t happen to be HM? Your posts sound a lot like a friend of mine. What are the chances?

Can I get 25% stock and ownership of the MGM product line you are releasing at Ray Jay?

I mean holy crap, it’s not like this was a team win or anything (stupid MGM Homers).

  34. nate Says:

Steelers had a lot on injuries.. im still optimistic there number1 db was out and 2 starting line backers…

  35. Vico Says:

A few months back I said I would take my words back if MG would make me by playing good. I was impressed by that Murphy pass. That was something. He deserves every bit of praise for yesterdays W. Kid has cold blooded guts. Still, I don’t think “future” when I think of him.

  36. DB55 Says:

Lovie is a huge joke. “Where you belong is where you’ll end up”. Like on the basement couch Lovie? The basement couch!!

  37. JayBucBoi Says:

Jo_mama & all supporters of his opinion need to become fans of another franchise. If you’re a fan be a fan, if not take off! What fan is excited about not making the playoffs or any real playoff run since ’02?? Lovie is still one of the best head coaches in pro football &, as a real fan of my Bucs, I don’t want to live through another coaching change because of so called fans like you. Especially when a change would be for the worse. Lovie & Licht has made no excuses, but we have new schemes on both sides of the ball & building a consistent contender takes more than a few months. We’re STILL going to make noise this year!

  38. JayBucBoi Says:

Seriously guys. The last thing the team needs is their own fans joining the naysayers. I refuse!

  39. @eric Says:

Ohhhh ok skyline, Glennon didn’t make Russell transfer because he lost the starting job to MG08, tell me then, was the weather nicer in WI or did he find a bigger dorm room? It’s well documents, MB beat Out Willson so he transferred to start someplace else….bottom line they’re both starters and rightfully so…the end, move on, happy flying.

  40. DB55 Says:

Wilson went to WI so he could play baseball.

“Despite Wilson’s productive season, and career – he was on track to break some of Philip Rivers’ school passing records – O’Brien thought Wilson could have been better if he had concentrated on football. After the successful 2010 season (the best of O’Brien’s six-year tenure in Raleigh), O’Brien gave Wilson an ultimatum: give up baseball or else.”

You’re damn right the chicken has large talons!

  42. buc4lyfe Says:

Glennon is a good quarterback. A GOOD quarterback, he’s good OK lol he’s an average quarterback compared to what’s in the league right now. How do I know this? You only compare him to average to below average quarterbacks…. Couple weeks ago people wanted to trade Doug Martin for Kirk Cousins. It’s not rational to say anything beyond that. If one game makes a difference then hell sit him back on the bench until the probowl game. Tony Romo is better but gets dogged because he can’t win a playoff game Matt Ryan either, is mgm saying he’s in their class after one game? He’s still 4th best in the division, seriously give him atleast two games

  43. Brandon Says:

It would be insane to name Glennon the starting QB moving forward. Keep him on the hot seat, the pressure on him. Besides that, if he goes out and pulls a Kirk Cousins and stinks it up a couple times then they’ll have to change back…not that it matters, McCown won’t even be ready until game 8 or 9 at the earliest. There’s plenty of time to evaluate Glennon. Giving him the role after one good half, after two bad ones, is silly. Let him go out and try to earn it.
